Leroy Jethro Gibbs...NCIS.

I'm only vaguely familiar with him but yes, I think so.

Actually, Celtic Thunder. The original men. Paul Byrom, Ryan Kelly and George Donaldson, especially. Paul is especially sweet the way he took a young Damian under his wing. Watching them on You Tube is my favourite way to procrastinate when I have a tight deadline (as I do right now, which is why I've been on here so much, because I'm the Queen of Procrastination).

If you want to know what shapes the fundagelical definition of masculinity, read Jesus and John Wayne by Kristin Kobes Du Met.

Reminds me of someone(Mark Driscoll?)claiming that he “couldn’t worship a Jesus he could beat up.”

I believe John Eldredge's "Wid at Heart: Discovering the Secret of a Man's Soul" has done a lot to make toxic masculinity more "mainstream" within evangelical culture and make it a waterdowned version within "fundie-lite" circles.   To me, it's the equivalent of what "I Kissed Dating Goodbye" did to mainstream the purity/courting movement within evangelical circles.

These are the things that have led to craziness like The Nashville Statement and gender roles coming before Jesus.

To me, this is the basic heretical message of Lori - she ascribes the basic problem with the world as a gender struggle rather than a struggle to live righteously before God; which is ultimately both anti-Biblical and anti-Christian.

Jesus and John Wayne is a scholarly study of toxic masculinity teaching and culture in American evangelicalism. Just thought I’d clarify. The author isn’t promoting it or defining it so people can pursue it.

Somehow I don’t think she means this in the same way that I mean it when I say it (and I say it often).

This being the same Jesus who braided a scourge and cleared the temple ? that Jesus is a badass.

Someone called out Lori's repeated taking Bible verses out of context and I am HERE for it!

People call her out all of the time. Even a male poster called her out once. She isn’t for it and will delete the conversation faster than you can say Paul. Anyone who doesn’t believe her words to be truth is wrong.

@PennySycamore I've had the hots for Mark Harmon for years and years. Oh my Gawd...the utter hotness. He's like Paul Newman, the older he gets the better he looks. Then again, Mr. Xtian was a hottie who was also like fine wine.

Nope, Gil Favor was played by Eric Fleming. Clint Eastwood played the ramrod Rowdy Yates. He was a mighty fine man back in those days, too! These days I much prefer his son Scott. Especially in "The Longest Ride".

So I was quite moved (obviously) by Kamala being swore in, and seeing them leave was really powerful for me. And I have to give Lori credit for that one. She reduces women so much to a walking talking uterus there was something really powerful in seeing these women stand up there and quite literally fuck that right in there faces. And I’m sure Lori was as miserable about it as possible

Did she really just use the word "profitable"????  Well, at least she's being honest with herself.

Speaking of which, why can't she use her time and resources within her community?   I'm surprised she and Ken aren't part of the country club set.  I guess she's not exactly Junior League material, huh?

Guess what? I did BOTH today. I cried tears of joy for my own daughters and all of the girls who now see a woman as VP. I taught my own classes and helped my own children with their school work. I felt such a sense of relief after today. And yes, I suppose God did answer prayers didn't she?

Not being an American I didn't watch it, but I can imagine how you felt, because I feel the same way watching powerful women. I've been hoping so much that Joe Biden would win the election purely so the USA could have a woman Vice-President. I think that's awesome!! I know nothing about American politics, but more women in power is a good thing, in every country.

I love the fact that we have a woman Prime Minister here in NZ and I love it even more that she had a baby while PM and her partner is the main caregiver. I love that she's doing a such a damn fine job. She's a better example for young women than Lori and her ilk will ever be.

Lori spent post after post after post after post yesterday arguing that infertility is too a punishment and curse from God for the woman's sin (so there nah!).

A poster kept trying to get her to understand we cannot possibly know that because we cannot ever know the mind of God. Lori was all Nope. Nope. Nope. Because it must be sin that caused the infertility because God punishes us for our sins -- It's in the Bible. Ergo infertile women are being punished for their sins. God Lori said so, and it's the truth.

I wonder if Lori realizes she's saying that her inability to get pregnant again (she said it was her pituitary gland or something on Always Learning) or when she and Ken at 40-something decided to try again is admitting her infertility is because of her sin?

I wonder what Alyssa thinks when she sees that repeated again and again and again by her mother?

I wonder if Lori believes in generational sin/curse and that her sin caused Alyssa to also be infertile?

Hmmmmm..... Inquiring minds want to know.

Lori knows God's will, but no one else possibly could. How dare you try to use your female brain!  It's just ballast.

My uncle just died from COVID. He wasn’t that much older than I am, so I kind of grew up with him. Just ten days ago my mom had been pleading with him to get vaccinated, but he wanted to wait to make sure the shots were really safe. I’m kind of devastated.

I just found out my little bonus kid is in a treatment center on a suicide watch tonight. He and I share a hobby and a couple weeks back he opened up to me that he's severely depressed and was wanting to hurt himself. I let his parents know and thankfully he had also been talking to them. I'm just heartbroken because him being in this center means that his parents had to call 911 and have him admitted and I know that was so hard for them to do. He's a young kid and has his whole life ahead of him but just wants to end it all and I don't know how to help him.

Middle aged woman with mommy issues...but missing her today.
She got so much wrong with me, but she had the best intentions and tried so hard.
She got so much right, too.  I forget that sometimes.  Sometimes I remember and dismiss it out of spite.
“They did the best they could with the tools they had.”  I forgot where I first heard that but I’ve carried it with me like a mantra since my parents passed.   They truly did.  Whatever else was missing, whatever I needed that they couldn’t give, the love was always there.

      Always.
      That’s something.
My confidence in my own abilities.  Faith in my own power.  My own strength.  They gave me that, too.
      That’s also something.
They’re why I’m messed up, but they’re also why I’m okay.

      Shit’s complicated.
She died before I figured out how smart she really was.  Sad thing is I don’t think ever figured that out for herself.
Ignore me - just crying in my car waiting to pick up my son.
