Justin and Claire 2: Always the One I Forget

Having Taco's at a wedding reception seems like a very Texas thing to do whether you are fundie or not.

We've seen Claire in pants before. I don't think the Spiveys are skirts-only.

And if the main objective of Justin marrying Claire was to get out of under the control of Jim Bob, I see Justin not caring if she wears pants or not either.

I went to a wedding in 2019 and took home an almost identical succulent. It was dead in two weeks. I am a plant serial killer.

Why does Pa Spivey look like Col. Sanders?

One thing about babies getting married ... maybe Justin is still “sweet.” Maybe by some miracle he won’t develop into an egomaniacal controlling maniac steeped in toxic masculinity. Think of 14 year old boys in puppy love before they discover fake porn, get jaded by their first rejection, etc. Fingers crossed his innocence actually helps Claire. Maybe Ma Spivey knew this (kind of like the Bates mom making sure the men her daughters are about to submit to 100% sickeningly adore her daughters) and snatched up the “sweetest” of the Duggar boys so her daughter would be submitting to a nice one. Maybe as babies they will grow up together on more equal footing vs a man years her senior. I can only hope!!!!

She is a secretary for her father’s construction business.

I think he looks like Billy Bob Thornton playing Col. Sanders. Tsk.

Chain of thoughts:

1) OMG they’re children
2) Yes, but I meant my DH at Claire’s age
3) Really, they’re trapped. If divorce were an option this would just seem silly, not quite as tragic. It’s tragic because there’s no way out.
4) Playing the odds, there’s gonna be a Duggar divorcée at some point. Wonder who it will be.

I’m not so sure about the divorce - I don’t see any of the Duggar children initiating a divorce- they have been completely brainwashed about marriage and they have seen you stick it out no matter how awful the behaviour or miserable your life.I’d like to think of any of them was in an abusive relationship then the Duggars would help- but I’m not so sure.
All of the women that have married Duggar men come from similar backgrounds and all have been eager to have their daughters marry in. Only Abbie has the means to earn an independent living - the rest would have to rely on their parents helping them or whatever they can get out of JB for a NDA.

I don’t see Ben leaving, Jeremy may get bored of Jinger but he knows who is the real celebrity in that relationship and it isn’t him so unless he finds another celebrity or actually does something without exploiting the fame of Counting On, I think he’ll stay but probably cheat.

Derick is the only one who could leave - he has a profession, he’s already out of the performing circus and he’d be well placed to fight for his rights to co parent etc but they seem pretty contented so not obvious candidates.

The mask thing is heinous but I'm setting the spreader event aside for a sec- because Texas?.

Tacos are delicious and affordable and it looks like they spent a ton on flowers and video. Also they're children getting married-? I don't think the taco choice(or pizza, or burgers) is weird. I think Claire's parents get points for a sit down meal. If she ruins that modest dress- who cares?

I think a lot of us would care if our dress was ruined and that’s why we made those comments

If you trust in the lord, he will save your dress from tacos. Since fundies think he watches every detail of their lives and all.

I get why ruining your wedding dress might suck emotionally/symbolically, but practically, it's the only piece of clothing you own that you'll probably never wear again. it could be shredded to pieces and the number of re-wears would likely remain the same. even if you're hoping to pass a dress down, there's no guarantee that you'll have daughters and that they'll want to wear your dress in 20/30/40 years (or that it'll fit them!). Most of the pictures have been done by that point, and the ones that haven't can probably have an unsightly stain photoshopped out. I'd be more worried as a guest wearing a nice dress in a light colour that I'm hoping to re-wear a bunch of times.

I think Hillary said that the person who did the flowers was a longtime friend of hers so maybe they got a good deal on them?

Gorgeous flowers. I’ve been to more than a few weddings with tacos, they are popular in my part of California - not sure why that would be a bigger worry than say red wine?

I was about to say the same thing. Are the two of them setting up shop in Texas?  It seems like it would be a good fit.

The solution to wedding tacos and fancy clothes: bibs as favours! In fundieland the guests can reuse them for the next baby born.

I love tacos but seeing as I don't feel safe eating them in a light coloured shirt, I definitely would avoid eating them wearing formal clothes.

Wonder where Justin and Claire went on their honeymoon?  I think Hawaii would be lovely but are either of them old enough to rent a car or a hotel room? If it’s 18, they’re okay, but if it’s 21, they aren’t. They may have friends who have a timeshare or a condo so they might be able to go that route.

it's 18 to book a hotel room. technically 25 to rent a car, but companies will rent to younger drivers for an "underage" fee. initially I'd wonder whether TLC could put their name down for logistic things like that, but who knows if they're filming...

If they arrange things in advance (e.g. the rental car, hotel room, etc.), they might submit their parents necessary info and not encounter problems that way.

As far as I know, you can easily rent a hotel room at 18 in Germany, but I’m not sure about renting a car. Also, things might of course be different in the US. But it’s crazy to me that people might legally marry before being allowed to do the above mentioned things.

Same. And if Claire was that concerned about spilling she could've thrown a cute apron on over her dress while she was eating. That's my plan for my wedding this fall where we're having pasta with red sauce!
