I can't see him ever having a normal job or a job in which he had to answer to someone else.  He just couldn't make it.

"We" (i.e., me) at fj have informally diagnosed John as having some sort of manic-depressive cycle.  According to a few of his followers from early on,  he can get extremely ugly and mean when crossed or challenged.

There are likely congregants at Tri-County Baptist who recall John as a teen and young adult and know exactly what he's all about.  Wouldn't there would be some immediate and emphatic blow back were Rick to try to institute John as a lead pastor?

His attempts at a normal job had him dramatically ranting because they dared to play modern Christian music. It also seemed like he made all his co-workers hate him. I bet working with John was the worst.

I do think John is heading towards trouble, though, because he has already attempted to be the assistant pastor at his dad's church and didn't stay in the position that long. He also was a pastor of his own church but didn't appear to be happy doing the job. If John comes back to take over his father's church, I don't see it going very well. And once his dad is unable to rally to the troops to ship his son off on a new Great White Adventure, John is going to be up a creek without a paddle.

In other news David Rea seems to still be a total asshole on FB. He dares to complain about liberals having moral relativism all while being a rabid Trump supporter who claims Biden is stealing the election.

John only seems capable of accepting his father’s opinion. Part of that appears to be him saving his own butt with finances, but I also suspect his dad is glad one kid stayed in the fold, problematic as he is.
But John would be an even bigger problem in the states. He’s already shown us that. And being in sub Saharan scary Africa feeds his savior complex, which waxed and waned depending on his psyche.
Honestly, John is best kept contained where he can do the least harm. Anyone know of an uninhabited island out there? Maybe someone could trick him into believing there were lost souls out there, and that Esther and the kids needed to stay in Texas while he embarked on a dangerous mission. Shoot, maybe he could fly himself there! /s ?

I sense it's just a matter of time before John contracts Covid.  Then what?  His (pregnant?) wife and 12 bazillion children are carrying on in Africa, with presumably his epileptic son as the patriarch in charge.  I truly hope that they will have sufficient funds to carry on if  Bro. John is incapacitated for a long period of time.

This also makes me wonder if John had to leave Zambia expediently for some reason and caring for his ill parents was just an excuse.

Who is paying for all the plane fares?  First Esther and kids, then John.

@apandaaries,  I've been looking for a desert isle for Tweetie Amin, family and sycophants, but unfortunately, St Helena is populated now.  Some place like that would be perfect though.  If only we could find two such islands.

Do we know how long he plans to be in the States?

I didn't listen to his ramblings at the church, but I thought someome else who did said he planned to be there for 2 (or a couple) months.

He last posted on his page on Nov 4, and was preaching at the church by Nov 8, so I assume he traveled between then, unless he posted on his page from the states already. He talked about some travel and preaching he did around Zambia a few weeks prior. If he wasn't in the states on the 4th, and then preached on the 8th, that certainly isn't a 2 week quarantine.

He hasn't said on his page that he is in the states, I wonder if he ever will.

If he's out of Zambia for two months, what will happen to his "ministry."  Much less his family.  If he's here for a couple of months, I think he's going to stay....and bring his family back.

He is possibly testing the waters in tri county. Trying to work out what sort of welcome he would receive. His funds must be drying up. I cannot believe that the sheeples who fund him can afford to do so anymore given the current situation in the US. It boggles my mind if they are depriving their own families to send coppers to Johnny boy.

  • 2 weeks later...

Just checked the John Esther Shrader facebook page.  John lists  Former Associate Pastor at Tri-County Baptist Church Katy, Texas in his Intro section and in the Life Events section, he lists a start date of 2001 and an end date of 2007 at Tri County Baptist.

Does anyone know if he was considered an "associate pastor" for all of those 6 years, or is he padding his resume?

Zero updates on the scene in Katy, but there's this post from Nov. 4:

Quote

a few weeks ago I had the privilege of traveling to, camping in, and sharing the Glorious Gospel of Christ with village after village in the Eastern Province of Zambia

and because this is Bro Shader:

Quote

...It was heartbreaking to find place after place that, though calling themselves "Baptist," did not know the meaning of the word Grace, and were trusting in their baptism and attempts to keep the Law of God to make themselves righteous.

When arrogant Bro Shrader showed up to tell them that they weren't really saved because something something, I suspect that there were some carefully veiled "f**k this guy" moments because

Quote

Sadly, most did not repent of their dead works, like Heb. 6:1 says

and for a parting shot

Quote

Please continue to pray for the eternal Souls of these precious Africans, many who are very religious, but clearly lost.

I wonder how shocked he would be to discover that many “precious Africans “ probably consider John very religious but lost. We think he’s an idiot and I’m sure most of the people he meets do too.

No update on the John Esther Facebook page since Nov. 18, but Tri-County Baptist has videos of John is preaching the Sunday service, including yesterday.  They are streaming their in-person services.

Right now, I'm betting on John taking over (or attempting to take over) Tri-County Baptist on a permanent basis.

John and Esther are looking at an unending (literally) stream of kids facing citizenship and residency issues in Zambia as the years roll on.

They also need a steady supply of virginal nubile maidens for the boys and budding patriarchs for the girls because no way are the Shrader sprogs going to marry Zambian locals, who are extremely prone to dubious theological purity and have other problematic issues, like not being the right color.

We haven't really discussed John's racism too much, but I consider it obvious that John does not consider the people he is attempting to convert to be his equal in any way.  Using "precious" as an adjective for African is coded condescending language for "less than".

No local person of color, adult or child, has been allowed into his home to become friends of the family or as a family helper, as far as we know.  Having a policy of not sharing physical or financial abundance with anyone but the immediate family is another way to firmly distance himself from people while trying to harvest their souls.

Also, if he's in Katy, John Esther + kids can provide care for Rick and the Missus in their dotage and even right now Covid recovery may have left them debilitated.

So..... I'm placing bets on the Shraders repatriating to Katy in 3...2...1!  I could be wrong, though.  As my best friend always says, "More will be revealed!".

Yeah I agree - but I think only if Rick hands the church over to him, or has a succession plan for John in place. Otherwise I think John will return to Zambia, where he can continue to cosplay being the Great White Saviour.

The kids I think will get shipped back to be married off as they come of age and suitable matches can be found.

I don't know how Independent Fundamentalist Baptist churches are structured -- if there is an elder board, or some other kind of board that runs the church's business. If so, Rick would not have the final say.

If it's Rick's show, then I'm sure he'd invite John to take over.

Even if John takes over there is no guarantee that the church members would stay. He is such an ineffective preacher, while still believing himself to be the best christian that ever lived, that I could see a mass exodus of people.

      Stupid loneliness!
Kid 1 went back to college (yeah! But sad foe me, she stayed with me all summer. It was nice to start a new phase in our mother/daughter relationship)
Zero prospects on dates. (Not that I have tried online dating, scared of that but I have reached put to a new group at church, etc.
I asked a friend to go to dinner the other night so I wasn't eating alone, again. The friend had plans, all my friends always have plans. I see stuff on social media, I'm never invited. I'm single, I'm the 3rd or 5th wheel.
My one parent friend at kid 2's fall sport won't be there because their daughter made varsity (Yeah for her!!! Seriously happy for her. Sad for me for another sport I basically sit alone, did that majority of spring and summer sporting events.)
And now I'm crying as my mom told me 2 different funny stores that former teachers remembered about my twin. Both stories were about how they got a crack out of my twin's antics (my parents went to a funeral today and saw former colleagues). Teachers remember me (after all I was a twin and teachers' kid) but none would have memorable stories of me.
      I feel invisible.
Don't worry, this will pass,  it always does. I just need a pity party for a few days. I'm not in anyway going to harm myself. As lonely as I am, I have a very full life I (usually) love. I just needed to vent and cry for a moment.
If you are still reading this, thanks Fjer. 😊

Absolutely awful about the fires on Maui. In 2019, I stayed in Lahaina. I liked to sit on the sea wall, which is the only structure left now, and watch the water. People are receiving help, but many had to leave pets. Please donate to the Maui Humane Society, which is leading efforts to find, treat, and reunite pets.
