Continued from here:

I know we have two and a half months until Inauguration, but Joe and Kamala's speeches tonight made me feel so hopeful. I thinking about the song, "The Future Is So Bright I Gotta Wear Shades."

That’s because it is.

I live in a very red area and the posts I’m seeing on FB are beyond belief. One would think President Perfection was being illegitimately and illegally ousted by President-elect Satan Socialist. There is no resemblance to reality and no acknowledgement of any of Trump’s extensive character flaws, of which toddler tantrums are prominent. Why can’t they see see him as he is?
Just so you all know, we are about to be put in permanent lockdown, will lose all of our 1st & 2nd Amendment rights, will be forcibly vaccinated, the country will be communist, criminals will be idolized, police attacked & killed, rioting & killings will be the norm everywhere. Because Democrats.

Because they're afraid it will get back to the toddler and he'll send a mean tweet.

Just to clarify, there have been some Rs who have contacted Biden, just nobody in congressional leadership.

This is probably crazy, but I actually feel like I can breathe a little easier tonight. All week I’ve been getting tenser and tenser, not sleeping more than a few hours each night because I was glued to the returns, and now the dam has burst. The votes are counted, and the election is called. Literacy and decency are returning to the White House. Hallelujah!!

I feel the same. So glad he’s gone and I can rest easy. He’d better stay gone. No overturned results or recounts!

Trump’s vocabulary is so limited. I always wanted to play a drinking game whenever he spoke because he uses the same words and phrases every single time. And I don’t even drink.
Just so happy that Trump lost! Many people are saying it. Believe me. Everyone knows this. It’s incredible. Tremendous. WINNING!

Yes!!! I’m so sick of the words “beautiful”, “terrific”, “phony,” and the phrase, “a lot of people are saying.”

The president of Finland (you may remember him from this photo... Trump slapped his knee and talked about raking the forests)

Spoiler

kuva.png.f483b8153a815a6bdd8e5a47d4c06f83.png

just held a presser saying he's looking forward to the United States returning to the organized international cooperation, and that he hopes USA will rejoin the Paris agreement.

I don't remember him having a presser about how happy he is that Trump got elected.

Love this article:

Spoiler

So long, Anonymous Republican Source, you omnipresent feature of countless stories about calumny and chaos in the West Wing, you utter, utter coward. By narrating the horrors of the Trump administration while never going on the record about any of them, you attempted to have it both ways: to play the hero while still remaining on the payroll of America’s greatest villain. You worked for a man who bashed “fake news” in public while you ran to reporters in private in your feeble attempts to soothe your guilty conscience (and/or advance your agenda amid the White House’s various eye-clawing factions). You participated in the degradation of countless democratic norms while maintaining the one norm that matters most in official Washington: the political insider’s right to never face consequences for saying what is really on their minds.

While we’re at it, let’s also bid farewell to your cousins, A Source Familiar With the President’s Thinking and A Senior Administration Official. More often than not these Highly Placed Sources were likely either Steve Bannon, Kellyanne Conway, Jared Kushner, the president’s various chiefs of staff, or Donald Trump himself, breaking kayfabe behind the scenes while maintaining character in public for the benefit of the rubes watching at home. By speaking to reporters while never standing behind your words, for four years you all used the press as a tool to advance your own ulterior motives and self-serving ambitions.

Anonymously sourced stories come and go like whispers in the wind, because the allegations contained therein aren’t backed up with names. I’m sort of oversimplifying here—for reporters, sometimes anonymous sourcing is a move in a long game to get that source to eventually go on the record, or at least publish the most information possible while maintaining a channel of reporting—but not really. In Washington, with anonymous sourcing, nothing ever really changes, including reporters’ complicity in the whole sordid practice. You certainly never changed anything, Anonymous Republican Source, because changing things was never your intent. Your goal was to save face with your savvy buddies, to assure them that you didn’t actually believe any of this horseshit, that like everyone, you were just playing the game.

This game will continue during the Biden administration, albeit with different players, who hopefully will not be quite so breathtakingly cynical. Goodbye, you gutless ghouls, and may your next contact with a reporter come when you offer a hasty “No comment” on the day of your indictment.

Once again, it seems the GOP is largely made up of white people who are afraid of how non-white people in their country might have rights.

You guys, I'll preface this post by saying I'm insanely sleep deprived - Ireland is five hours ahead of the East Coast so I've been staying up till 3 or 4a.m for the last five nights to watch the coverage. For example, Joe's speech last night was at 1a.m Irish time, I cried buckets and crawled into bed about two, completely emotionally and physically drained, only to ping awake at my normal rising time of 8am. It's been a long week.

So I woke this morning and immediately grabbed the phone to check the updated numbers before I remembered that it's over and he won and I DON'T HAVE TO DO THAT ANYMORE!!!!!! So I lay back in the bed and scrolled TikTok for a bit to try get my heartbeat back into normal rhythm and within seconds was dissolving into tears and crying the hardest I have yet in this election cycle.

Why? Well, I discovered that while Champ Biden lived in the White House when Joe was VP, Major Biden was adopted from a shelter since he left. But now Major is obviously going to be living in the White House....

That beautiful dog went from living in a shelter to living in the White House!!!  :5624796058123_Aseaoftearscrying::5624796058123_Aseaoftearscrying::5624796058123_Aseaoftearscrying::5624796058123_Aseaoftearscrying::5624796058123_Aseaoftearscrying::5624796058123_Aseaoftearscrying::5624796058123_Aseaoftearscrying:

(Apologies. Normal emotional regulation will presumably return sometime over the next few days. But for today, it's all the feels...)

:romance-heartspink:

Yeah I didn't sleep much at all last Tuesday.  But ever since then I've been sleeping the best I've had in several months and able to fall asleep before 10pm.  If I could say one thing to fuck face is that he owes me for four years of lost sleep and it's time for him to pay up.

@Ozlsn pointed me toward one of our satire sites that had an article about democracy sausage fraud (sausage sizzles and cake stalls are a sacred part of Australian elections) and now I can’t stop smirking at all their other articles.

There are two rats that I don't see leaving the ship- Mitch McConnell and Lindsey Graham. Susan Collins will talk about leaving the ship, will act like she's leaving the ship, but ultimately will go down with the ship, saluting the captain. She will still insist that he has been properly chastised and doesn't really mean all the awful things he says and does.

Mitch is extremely dangerous because this is likely his last term and no longer has to worry about re-election. He’s methodical and always has his mind on the long game...he has already reshaped the judicial landscape and now he’ll be focused on taking back Congress and the White House.

The GA senate runoff will be ugly.  If Democrats only take one, I hope it’s Perdue’s seat because Isakson’s seat will be up again in 2022 regardless of the outcome.

I slept 9 hours last night.  That is unheard of for me...usually I get 6 or 7 and snatch a nap sometime during the day.  I attribute it to my soul exhaling fully for the first time in 4 years.

Only a little over 4,500 people in my county voted Biden/Harris.  I am so, so proud to be one of them.  Their speeches were amazing.

I am still wary of the damage Fuckface will do in the coming weeks, but I'm trying to enjoy this moment of peace and stay positive.
