Bontrager/Bowers 7: Thanking the Lord for all the Matchmaking

Now that Carson and Joshua were paired off with Bowers and Allison and Denver were paired off with Helferich's what family is Taylor and Elizabeth going to be paired off with since they are next in line.

There are lots of Single Bowers boys for Liz to choose from. The Craigs have a single daughter similar in age to Taylor. Plus there’s always Joe Xiques. I could see Becky and Marlin pushing those two together so they can keep the family band going. But it may be another few years before Taylor and Liz marry anyone. I get the feeling the Bontragers started pushing marriage really hard 4 years because they had 10 kids and 5 were unmarried adults. Now that they will have 6 children married by March 2021, I doubt they will push Taylor or Liz too hard just yet. But they might want to get married just for some independence.

"As the Marxist Revolution accelerates, our country is in crisis..."

I really lol'ed at that one. I'm not a Marxist ideologue but I'm friends with many DSA members (Democratic Socialists of America)  in my city and read their newsletter. The consensus in those circles in that capitalism has never been so powerful in America, inequalities between rich and poor have never been wider and large corporations have never been so wealthy. Joe Biden represents no threat whatsoever to late-term capitalism. And these "activists" hold modern socialist views like the French or the Swedes. Marxists at this point have pretty much given up on America so a communist revolution is laughable.

Curtis needs to relax, his freedom ain't going anywhere. But of course there's more money to be made from doomsday fear mongering.

None of these people can define a single Marxist principle or idea. They orgasmed during a re-run of an old McCarthy speech and decided to spew their lack of education everywhere.

ETA - as a political economy major it is INFURIATING watching these people vote against their own interests (i.e. family initiatives, greater welfare funding, universal healthcare, etc.,) because someone in the 60s told their daddies that anything on the left wants to destroy society.

Tucker Allen Bontrager was born Dec 7th and I think he looks just like his older brother Micah. But I think Bryn and Mitchell are one of those fundie couples that look like siblings. So it’s no surprise. However I am not a huge fan of the name. I would rather to call him Allen.

I'm with you. No offense to FJers who love the name, but I've always thought of it as a great name for a dog. And I have met several dogs named Tucker, so I guess I'm not alone.

Are the pictures are at some sort of birthing center? I notice that Mitchell has a hospital wristband on. I am surprised that hospitals would allow visits from little kids right now.

I'm surprised by the name. It sounds kind of like a nickname. I like that it's not biblical, even though I had picked a biblical name. I also like that it's non-alliterative with his brother's name, even though I picked two M names.

I’m guessing they are home in that picture and he forgot to take his bracelet off.

To me, as a non-english speaker, Tucker sounds very 'country' and somewhat trendy. I might be wrong though.

To me, non-English speaker, young Bontragers are naming their brood after characters of old westerns. Tucker, Wallace, Winston? It really suits them, as they are obsessed with toxic masculinity.

English speaker and American from the South here. I think it could be considered a “country” name that goes with other Western film names, but Tucker isn’t actually that trendy of a name despite other surnames and Western names becoming popular. The only Tucker I’ve ever known was actually a girl who was a Tucker Elizabeth. I am surprised they went with a non-biblical name, but Tucker Allen is a solid name in my opinion. Not one I would’ve picked, but definitely better than a lot of fundie kids’ names.

Tucker Allen sounds like the name of a country music singer

The sister of country singer Jason Aldean named her boy Tucker.

While Liz may be considered too young to marry at the end of next year when she turns 18, Taylor wouldn't. Taylor does turn 19 in January and that was the age that Joshua was when he had gotten engaged. Plus, Denver just turned 20 last week. So, it is very possible that Taylor will be engaged sometime next year. Knowing how Marlin and Becky were desperate to have their kids married it really wouldn't surprise me.

Edit: Whoops my bad, Denver just turned 21, not 20.

I hope they didn't name him after Tucker Carlson.  Yucky!

Since they have a son named after Dr. Ben Carson, anything is possible.

The Bontragers are big on naming their children after non family members. People like Winston Churchill, William Wallace, Ben Carson, and plenty of others.

Really that’s who their son is named after.

Yes, I believe they said this on their blog somewhere.

My guess is that two of their boys are named after a Christian missionary named James Hudson Taylor.

https://www.pbs.org/newshour/politics/one-homeschooled-christian-family-bands-mission-to-elect-ted-cruz

A PBS NewHour piece in 2016 about the Bontragers campaigning for Sen. Cruz:

"When they are not on tour, the Bontragers are back in Kalona, tending to the family's 500 acre corn and soybean farm...The aspiring mechanic, Carson, was named after the retired neurosurgeon and long-shot 2016 Republican Presidential Candidate Ben Carson..."

I was reading about how much money Trump gave to farmers - it is a lot - particularly soya bean farmers. I wonder how much the Bontragers collected. I suspect their Trumpism is not just racist/misogynist/hate based. There is also lots and lots of cash.

Maybe he will end up becoming a country singer :) or worse a rock and roll singer! That would be great!
