Our dog goes out far more often when it’s raining than when it’s fine. I trained her as a puppy to sit on a towel that I put at the back door whenever it’s raining. She gets dried, then gets a treat.  She’s very food motivated and she’s worked out that going out into the rain is worth it for that treat ?.

I agree. I think they will wait until the wedding is close in to announce. Announcing a courtship between two grown-ass adults isn’t going to give either family positive PR.

Do we think they are at Big Sandy? They might skip this year because then everyone at big Sandy would see they are a couple.

My guess is Stephen won’t go since he has an actual job. Also, only one of his siblings is still school age, so my guess is it’s not a whole family affair like for other fundies.

I think the leak came out much too early in their relationship for JB. I think they will just pretend there is no relationship until they are engaged.

I could imagine the Duggars want to address the relationship publicly once they’re in an official courtship or when they get engaged at the very latest. It might give them some much needed attention and a new season. Counting On might be a snooze feast for now, but I’m sure a lot of former viewers would start watching again, should we get a Jana courtship, engagement, and wedding.

I believe that right now Stephen and Jana are both absolutely 100% on board with living life exactly how they’ve been raised to. You wouldn’t choose to stay at home as an adult and subject yourself to courtship if you didn’t believe it.

In my book, Jana is only single because she hasn’t been sold on any guy who was interested. She thinks her parents are amazing and that this is the right way to live. Same for Stephen.

BUT there is always some hope when a couple marries and leaves the home. They have a chance to talk. They share opinions. They may be exposed to ideas very slightly different. They could have an experience that changes how they view some part of their upbringing. 

It’s not likely, but all Jana will ever be while at TTH is another Sarah Maxwell. At least by marrying there is a chance of something else.

I think they are definitely courting. Jana had WAY too much fun with the left-hand-in -the-pocket video for her to NOT be in a relationship...and they have denied courting rumors before. Stephen's 'I'm too busy to comment' was, to me, an affirmation... 'We're just family friends' takes less time to say and has fewer words, and would have preserved an Innocent Maiden's Reputation and Availabity Status, something no fundie 'Gentleman' would wish to besmirch.  And can you imagine the Wrath of the Boob if Stephen implied he'd taken Jana off the shelf and she WASN'T? Oh, the HORROR of the smashed patriarchy...

Right, Jessa responded ‘they aren’t engaged’ in response to a fan comment, which leaves open the possibility of ‘special friends’ or courtship. If there was no relationship, ‘they’re not engaged, we’re just family friends’ would have made more sense and is more definitive. I too think they’re courting but an engagement will happen soon.

Any announcement that may have been soon coming, would probably be put off by now. While JBoob & Meechelle are not above throwing their daughters out front during a scandal as a distraction technique, I cannot see the Wissmanns agreeing to throw Stephen to the wolves like that (even being old family friends). They have an actual business and reputation to think about.

This is where I am thinking this whole thing may get called off and the Wissmanns are very happy that the whole thing never got publically past a rumour. They have an out  but in her circle Jana will still be damaged goods and a person non grata 

The younger girls may get tarnished too and maytbe the boys

The Wissmans know that this isn’t her fault. Jana’s never liked publicity. This might be the perfect time for her to get the quiet wedding that she wants and leave the Duggar circus behind.

If Stephana are truly a love match, I think the wedding will still happen (quietly). If it was a business arrangement to generate interest in their music, well, that’s a different situation....

I hope that Jana and Stephen both think about what they really want and desire in life, in a partner, etc. If they really want to be together, then I hope they stay the distance. Ride out this mess. If they don't want to be together or they decide it's not right or they want to split, I hope they do.

The fundie view that your first relationship should be the only relationship and you should never have a breakup is stupid and bad. There's nothing immoral about breaking up with someone if it's not working out or you realize it's not the right relationship. I feel the same about divorce most of the time.

I don't know the Wissmans that well but I think it can go either way. They either see Jana as an innocent bystander and want to 'rescue' her into their family or they do not want any connection to the Duggars anymore.

But since this is not the first scandal, I think the second option will only be the case if the charges are really severe (e.g. child abuse and the family does not dissapprove of it, or financial crimes that involves half of the family).

But this isn't necessarily Jana's scandal. Unless Jana is directly involved, why would they hold that against her? 

I doubt other fundies will really care. Especially longterm fundies with IBLP connections.

Even if it does not involve Jana they might not want to connect their name to the Duggar brand at the moment. The Duggars are the most famous fundies so it can either bring their business more fame or it can risk them going down with the Duggars.

But again, I only think this will happen if the charges are so severe that the whole Duggar brand will collapse. If they still have a decent following of leghumpers, especially in their circles, it should be fine.

Isn't there also a Wissman daughter (Hannah?) courting a Howler? If there's any danger to the Wissman's reputation from being too closely associated with Duggars, I imagine the headship would be less sold on marrying off two kids to Duggars in close succession. Jana and Stephen are older (and Stephen is a man) so if only one of the Dug-sman couples survives this it will probably be them.
