The Dubuque city council decided to have a scheduled trick or treat this year.

Quote

Trick or treat or not? Dubuque City Council members on Monday decided to let residents make that choice for themselves.

Council members proclaimed that trick-or-treating will be allowed in the city from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on Halloween, Oct. 31, dubbed the “physically distanced, COVID-19-safe, trick-or-treat night.”

The proclamation was supported unanimously by council members as a means of allowing the annual Halloween tradition, while still trying to promote safety during the pandemic.

The decision was made following an analysis by city Public Health Specialist Mary Rose Corrigan on the potential risks of trick-or-treating. In her report, Corrigan outlined the potential harm that could occur if trick-or-treating was banned in the city this year.

I think the city made a good decision here.  It would probably happen anyway without city sanction and it keeps families from flooding nearby towns who decided to have trick or treat times this year.

I know some purists locally who are all probably pissed off now because of this. But if you keep taking things away from people - especially children - pandemic or no they’ll lash out and ignore the city altogether. And probably replace the mayor and council with a bunch of BTs next year.

Well, Trump ordered Mnuchin to stop all negotiations  for a second stimulus, and a bailout for airlines, immediately so the Senate can concentrate on ramming through Barrett's nomination.

Pelosi accused him of having steroid brain fog, and I agree.  She had previously asked the airlines to hold off on furloughs in hopes of passing the bailout.

So, now the stock market craters and the already high unemployment climbs even higher.  Less than 4 weeks before an election.

Not so smart of the very stable genius.

Comey Barrett has to make it out if committee.  A current issue with two republicans out due to covid so the numbers are even.  (The rose garden did its damage on that front)

I've been thinking about the WH's refusal to do contact tracing. Maybe it's not about a questionable timeline. Maybe it's about who WH people were in contact with.

Ya know, if I were a believer I might say that the good Lord has spoken on this one.

As someone who has been walking a labyrinth to pray almost every Sunday since March (and asking for removal from office of a certain person) I may consider it rather a potential answer of prayer.

It's interesting how when literally anything at all bad happens it's "the Lord punishing this country for __________" (usually abortion, or not hating gay people), but when something very specific happens to a very specific group of people it's just chance.

Honestly it was just inevitable. They've all been begging to be infected all year, even my somewhat Trump-supporting boss agreed that they've been asking for it.

But I don't think this is God smacking them down. He'd hit them harder, I think. There's no justice or fairness in 210,000 people dying, the entire economy tanking, people out of work, and the fact that those are just the US stats and other countries elsewhere are battling this as well - and then Trump gets the sniffles and spends 3 days in a luxury suite getting the best health care available only to return triumphantly claiming he "may be immune".

Heck. Just the fact that he gets unlimited free government-run healthcare while actively opposing anyone else in the country getting that same thing is just patently unfair.

Note to God, if they are listening - you're really going to have to be more specific on this. Carefully targeted lightining bolts from a blue sky are the option most likely to get your point across, I think.

WH Chief of staff Meadows (you know the guy who was talking about Trump to reporters over the weekend) hosted a wedding in May that went against local covid guidelines.

No shit

The CEO of University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics says the increase in hospitalizations for COVID-19 shows current public health measures are not successful.

As of today, 449 people are receiving treatment in Iowa hospitals, an all-time high. Roughly 25 are at UIHC, which is average. Less than half are in the ICU.

And will #CovidKim change course?  Yeah right.

A Dubuque County supervisor said a county level mandate is not a dead issue.

Quote

The Dubuque County Board of Supervisors last month voted, 2-1, against a resolution recommended by the Dubuque County Board of Health that would have mandated face coverings be worn in public, countywide, in most instances. That vote followed a letter and public pleas from 15 mayors of the county’s smaller cities — those other than the City of Dubuque — for supervisors to deny the resolution.

But more recent ZIP code-level positivity data has shown that positive cases in those same cities’ ZIP codes are rising at a faster rate even than the City of Dubuque. Even more recently, both the city and Dubuque County returned to the White House’s COVID-19 red zone list — which includes recommendations for mandated face coverings in the communities found there.

“When we voted against that, at least when my vote was cast, that wasn’t to say that was forever,” said Supervisor Ann McDonough at a board of supervisors meeting Monday. “It was an opportunity to begin partnerships with mayors in those communities.”

McDonough raised concerns that those measures are not enough. And, she said she has been contacted by people in those smaller communities who feel the same way.

Of course a lot of these mayors are BTs who worship at the altars of fuck face and #CovidKim so they don’t do a fucking thing.

Gee that sounds like here.  Boone County MO - no masking ordinance.  Columbia, Masking Ordinance (and I may work with folks from elsewhere in the county or the neighboring county who have declared that they just aren't going to Columbia due to masking unless they absolutely have to.

Allow that to sink in before I tell you.

Cole County has a per 10,000 rate that is a lot higher than Boone County.  Cole County is home to Jefferson City (aka the State Capital) - no masking ordinances in Cole County or Jeff City.

Anyone see the difference?  I do.

And it's all good with The Accidental Governor because you know - he's had the 'rona now

Yeah if #CovidKim caught the 'rona she still would probably refuse to take measures to contain the pandemic such as a statewide mask mandate and would take the fuck face route and claim that she's all cured and immune now.  There are people who are going on about how they won't come into Dubuque cause mask ordinance.  I figure good.  Stay away from us.

Dr. Fauci is standing up to fuck face

Quote

President Donald Trump revived his public criticism of Dr. Anthony Fauci Tuesday morning, continuing his efforts to undermine the infectious disease expert even as the doctor said he's not going to bow to pressure.

Trump contended in the tweet that Fauci's pitching arm -- a reference to his poor first pitch at Nationals Park -- is "far more accurate than his prognostications." Fauci's recommendations and assessments have largely been in line with public health experts throughout the coronavirus pandemic but not aligned with what the President perceives his political interests to be.

On Monday, Fauci said he is not deterred and will continue to serve in his role despite the criticism.

"I'm not going to walk away from this outbreak, no matter who's the president," Fauci told CNBC.

And something that is totally unsurprising - #CovidKim misused pandemic relief funding

Quote

Gov. Kim Reynolds misused $21 million in pandemic relief funds to implement a new software system for the state government, according to a report from the state auditor.

State Auditor Rob Sand said the governor directed $21 million of CARES Act funding to implement Workday, an HR/accounting computer system intended to replace the state’s old system. This is not an allowable use of the funds, according to Sand.

Sand said the governor’s decision to use the funds on Workday was not due to the public health emergency. The state signed a contract in 2019 with the company, prior to the emergence of COVID-19.

Additionally, Reynolds’ former chief of staff, Jake Ketzner, is a lobbyist for Workday. Sand said there is “no question” that the state’s legacy software system needed to be replaced, and that there are only a handful of systems available.

Come on Minnesota company, please offer me a job so I can move...
