Manchester United footballer Marcus Rushford managed to get the Conservative party to change their mind on scraping the food vouchers that were introduced during lockdown to help the family's whose children qualify for free schools meals. Marcus took to twitter with an open letter explaining the poverty he faced growing up and that families now more than ever need the extra help as many of the community centres that are used in the summer to help feed families in need are closed due to Covid 19. His message picked up momentum with it being shared and more high profile people speaking out against the government and a day after refusing to extend the vouchers to the summer holiday period they were forced to back down.

Yesterday the Government defeated a proposal by the Labour Party to implement a voucher scheme that would see all children in England and Wales be given at least one guaranteed meal during the school holidays. Marcus Rashford was given an MBE for his campaign in the last honours list and is continuing his campaign along with other celebrities since Boris and Co are still not wanting to make sure poor children get a decent meal all year round.

It's sad that a footballer and a few celebrities are doing more to highlight child poverty than our government. Boris and Co are the worst.
