And if you look at her sister Anna: when she did not immediately "bounce back" her husband DID stray...

(Disclaimer: by no means am I snarking about Annas appearance, or am body shaming a woman that is not skinny)

yup, with their warped theology and sexiest views about gender roles some would claim that is why Anna's husband strayed. It isn't right but sadly too many in that culture believe it :(

I feel like Priscilla is deeply suited to her life— physically, emotionally, mentally. She had easy homebirths, David clearly adores and appreciates her, and being a parent, and they are financially comfortable. Anna Marie is similarly suited. I am happy for Priscilla.

Who is Anna Marie?

Anna Marie Maxwell. She’s currently going through cancer treatment. But before that, she seemed to be very happy to be a fundie mom of many. She currently has 6 and may not have anymore due to her cancer treatments. They seem to be going well.

Women just can’t win with this horrible theology.

I was just watching the newest episodes of The Handmaid’s Tale and thinking that exact same thing. Not a single female in a Gilead can win. Not even the top commander’s wives. The men make it that way for a reason. So they can stay in power. And so do the fundies. The fundie world will always be run by fundie men and women will never win. No matter how happy or contented they are. Sure Priscilla is luckier than many because she doesn’t seem to know what she’s missing. But she is missing out. Whether she knows it or not.

The fact that Priscilla is skinnier than Anna may have to do with things not in their control. Just because they're sisters, doesn't mean they have the same body type. I've sisters/siblings in real life where one is thin and one is less thin. Siblings could have different metabolic rates, etc.

I’ve always had a list in my head of which fundies I would avoid in real life. Jill Rod and David Waller are on top of my list. Then Zoo and PP Anderson.

Don't leave out Brother Gary or Steve Maxwell or that father of the Arndt brothers or Ken Alexander!

We have no idea what goes on behind closed doors.  And the doors are closed to us 99% of the time.

I definitely wouldn’t avoid the Arndts! I hate to admit it but there are some fundies I would force myself to chit chat with or just not run away. I’m honestly curious about the Arndt dynamics. I would actually want to small talk with them if I saw them in public. Plus I like their photography. I also wouldn’t mind chatting with the Richardsons.

I would gladly chat up the manboys and Wizzie. Maybe Cathy. I'd steer very clear of Rick because I think he's make me angry.

How does Priscilla manage to always look so put together???? She has 5 kids to get out the door, yet her hairs is curled, the clothes are not rumpled, she has makeup on, yet she looks fresh and relaxed, not like she got up at the crack of dawn to achieve this look.

My mom was like that.  Naturally pretty and just had this way about her that felt very put together, even when she wasn't.  I've posted this before, but Pris reminds me so much of my mom when I was little.  Very sunny, optimistic, and gentle.  She couldn't hurt someone intentionally if she tried.  My mom was a nurse, so she never ran out of people to nurture.

There are just certain things about Pris, mannerisms, the sweetness that would seem affected from literally anyone else but genuine from them, seemingly endless patience and love for kids and child care that take me right back to my mom in the day.  I think the being put together thing comes down in part to people like that handling stress better in the moment than most of us.

I know for myself stress shows - I look and feel frantic or frumpy or whatever....but some people genuinely don't get rattled by the endless amount of neediness from those around them.  Can't speak for Pris, but I know the secret to my mom's contentment was being able to deny anything unpleasant like a super power.  Her default was happy and damn if she didn't live in that zone for almost every waking hour of her life.  There is a lot unhealthy about this, long term, but it absolutely does help people wired like that to get through the day.

I am not wired like that.  I am annoyed at more stuff by 9:00 am on any given day than my mom was my entire childhood.

Why are they wearing hats reminiscent of train conductors?  I don't know all the books of the bible*, so if you tell me it's from Railroads 3:16 I'll totally believe you.

Ha - take that AWANA!  You gave me a stupid bookmark for memorizing them but even at 8 I knew I could brain dump for a test and not have to retain the knowledge.  Oh and AWANA leader who didn't laugh at my books of the bible joke, that just shows you have no sense of humor....it was too funny (for an 8 year old.)

I would not mind talking with the Arndts or the Maxwells.  I believe you can learn from others even when you don't agree with them.  From a people watching standpoint it would be fascinating to see if they act the same in person as they do online.

I would talk to the Maxwells just to see for myself if they are robots or not.

Can your Mum bottle some of her Sunniness for me please? I'll drink it like polyjuice potion when I need to have a good day. If your Mum could bottle her ability she could be richer than bill gates. We could all use days where we could cope like her, healthy or not sometimes you just have to put on a smile and brave the day.

Your Mum does sound lovely and I bet every kid in the street loved being near her.

She's been gone for over 25 years, but yep ....she was everyone's favorite bonus mom.

Thank you for seeing the good in that....I needed that right now.  And I'm not crying...someone is cutting onions or something :tw_heart:

I was crying too actually reading about a nice Mum made me miss my Mum too. She has been gone since I was 21 and I'm now 42 so half my life. I miss her every dam day. She came to me in a dream on Mother's day. She came lots when she first died but she has not been in over ten years. I figured she had moved higher up. It was the best mother's day gift ever, to be held by her even if it was only in a dream.

Sending you and all the Mumless people out there a hug this weekend is always tinged with sadness.

I hadn’t kept up on the wallers, holy carp #5 is already 1 year old?! They’re gonna pass up Anna’s family. Poetic justice for when Anna slighted Priscilla for getting married “soo much later” than she did?

@AussieKrissy that sounds beautiful.

My grandfather showed up in a dream during a a particularly awful week of Covid. We went to an empty Disney World together with my adult self. He took me when I was 9. I was out of the country on a study abroad he helped pay for when died and was unable to say goodbye/go to his funeral (his choice actually!) and getting that dream hug from him was one of the best things that happened to me in 2020.

Nawww that's lovely you made my day. Disney world and a hug from a loved one. That sounds like the best dream ever. At the risk of  flying a fundie flag #blessed :)

  • 2 weeks later...

David has been busy this month- he was ordained as Pastor of Fairpark church on 2nd May

Gil Bates was one of the special speakers- there was a lot of speechifying as you would expect

He and his brothers got together for a quintet rendition of Washed in the Blood of the Lamb .

He was also, according to a mention in his address in a mid month service, at the Staddon Frazer wedding on 15th May.Then to cap it all he prayed over Robbie Spivey at his high school graduation party which must have been held in the church hall
