Man the torsional loading on the veins in her right leg is extreme. She needs to stop getting pregnant. Dollars to donuts when her baby making days have passed (maybe her uterus will prolapse in protest), she’ll get the veins striped. It looks painful!

My mom had some veins like that and she only had 2 kids. I think she had a procedure done to help with them because they aren’t as bad anymore. I can’t imagine what her veins would have looked like if she had 8 pregnancies.

I have wondered about why she doesn't get that fixed in between her pregnancies. I'm not aware of any restrictions that would  make you have to wait until you're done having children, and I've seen other peolpe mentioning this before. Or is it just because they can never be sure they're not pregnant? In that case, I'd recommend abstinence. And compression stockings in the meantime...

Maybe she’s afraid they will come right back with the next pregnancy? I guess she won’t be able to get them fixed until menopause. Imagine if she got them fixed at 45 and then got pregnant with twins again! She would be livid!

I think Michelle Duggar wears black stockings under her jeans to cover up varicose veins as well. Abbie's look very painful and she said she rarely wears shorts because she doesn't like to explain her varicose veins.

From Instagram. Spoiler because it feels weird and oddly personal to post someone else's leg:

My mom had her varicose veins removed when I was little. She didn't do it from vanity but because they caused her so much pain. She had 4 kids and worked a night shift as a CNA and was constantly on her feet. So she talked a doctor into doing her viens and bunions at the same time. She was in agony when she came home but was happy to get it all done at once.

That's fine, imo. It's consistent with a belief in an afterlife and lots of religious folks have the same attitude. I've seen plenty of memorial cards or programs with the title "Jane Smith: A Celebration of Life!" and it's very common in my part of the south to have a repast immediately after the funeral that features lots of talking, laughing, telling stories, and drinking. It's not peculiar to Opus Dei or fundamentalism in general.

I doubt in the South people are laughing in a young person funeral. Opus Dei extremists (not all the followers) may even celebrate a child death, or a young parent death.

Friend from high school was one of 7. His mother's legs looked like that.  She had her veins stripped, was still in pain and they came back. She walked in what I can only describe as a painful, limping walk. that got worse and worse as she got older.  By 55 she used a cane and had a handicapped sticker for her car.

By eavesdropping on my mother and her friends I heard she had really bad veins by child #4 and her OB-GYN told her to stop having children or she'd cripple herself.. She wanted to, but her hubby refused to use a condom and wouldn't give permission to let her have her tubes tied (that was the law back then).

Too bad Braggie doesn’t take this as a sign from god that she should retire her uterus after this pregnancy.

I have seen laughing at funny stories during a young person's repast (which is the gathering after the funeral, not the funeral itself).

I would probably struggle to celebrate the death of a young person or young parent myself, but I don't find it to be a horrifying aspect of their beliefs. Beliefs that keep you from seeking care for a loved one and particularly a child, yes, that horrifies me. But if you do all you can and they still die? Deal with it how you want. People grieve and commemorate loved ones in all kinds of ways that I don't understand. People are weird.

This may not be related due to pregnancy only (sorry Braggie!) since varicose veins are also hereditary.  I only popped out two kids and I’ve had laser ablations on both legs because genetics. My vascular surgeon says I could get left leg done again, but I’m going to wait since right now it’s mainly for cosmetic reasons. I rarely wear shorts because I don’t like the way my legs look.

But girlfriend needs to be wearing compression stockings all.the.time. to help ease the pain and slow down their progression.

Braggie would never wear ugly old compression socks, because they don't fit her super-curated carefree, boho, Anthro-mama image.

Michelle Duggar is a bag of shit, but at least vanity is not one of her sins.

Anna Marie Maxwell has also varicose veins in her pregnancies.

I have never seen a leg like Braggie's in a young person, only in elders. It looks terribly painful. And, isn't it dangerous in a pregnancy? Is it related to thrombosis or am I confused?

My understanding is that while varicose veins do increase the risk of thrombosis, that alone is not too dramatic if the veins affected are superficial veins. However, where deeper veins are concerned (which the superficial veins drain into and in which the blood is transported back to the heart), the risk of deep vein thrombosis or a pulmonary embolism is real and potentially life-threatening. And while pregnancy is a risk factor, as through the growing baby (or babies) the intraabdominal pressure rises and puts more pressure on the lower body's veinous system, Abbie lacks other risk factors like smoking and inactivity (I think she still works out every day despite the gym being closed, and is up and about quite a bit). I am not a doctor or specialized in phlebology, but to me it looks like the veins concerned are superficial ones, as you can't see any swelling on her leg (which would be caused by water being forced out of the backed up blood that is not being transported fast enough and accumulating in her foot/lower leg). But, again, compression stockings would help with the varicose veins as well as the pain (and they don't just come in black, nowadays they come in a variety of shades from nude to colourful patterns, some even look like a "sexy" stocking with the lace top).

Today Abbie tells us how she's able to spend time with each of her children individually. Spoiler alert: she doesn't. She basically just goes about her normal life while the kids try to get attention any way they can. Abbie actually calls chatting with the girls while she puts away clothes "quality time". Sometimes a kid is able to angle for time by sneaking into the van when she goes shopping.

I can agree that these little moments are important and a perfectly valid way to squeeze in extra time with kids, but Abbie is clear that this is the only way she spends time with her kids, with the exception of an occasional one on one. I feel bad that the children always have to meet Abbie on her ground and on her terms. It invalidates them as small people who are worthy of undivided attention from their parent. Children shouldn't have to play photographer for their mama, make mama breakfast in bed, or be a third parent to feel valuable and noticed.

Today she made it very clear that IHO, compression hoses aren’t cool, so she chooses fancy athletic clothing instead, because she is an exercise fiend and exercise also helps VV.

In one of her "Whaddaya wanna know Wednesday" posts today she explained that her older kids are not "parenting," merely helping out (despite the fact that she herself has called Ezra "third parent" on multiple occasions). It was immediately followed by this gem.

That’s so sad. The baby didn’t want his father or mother when he was hurt. He wanted his brother. Because his brother is likely the only one that truly comforts him.

I'm glad that someone could comfort that poor little boy and I feel deeply sorry for Ezra. He's surely a nice boy with horrible parents who use his gentleness for their lifestyle. I only with the best for Ezra.

Like Jordyn Duggar running towards Jessa after getting stuck in the staircase, like Jackson D running towards Jana when he got lost in the airport etc.

Poor poor children.

Thanks to a combined lip- and lymphedema I wear a flat knit compression pantyhose. That piece isn't cool and ugly as fuck, but you can pry it from my dead cold hands, because it helps tremendously and I prefer that over make my edema worse with trying to look cool. She would be advised to wear round knit compression stockings or a pantyhose, which today you can't distinguish from a leggins or normal stockings. But she may be suffering from her varicose veins, her suffering at the moment isn't big enough to shoot her vanity out of the window and wear compression stockings and get better. And a Texas summer and pregnant with twins won't help her veins, no matter how much she exercises.

A little expose on compression therapy, because I not only wear them, I also meassure them on patients at work when they come with a prescription from their doc. Compression stockings come in 2 different styles, round knit and flat knit and also in different classes of pressure, the higher the number, the stronger the pressure they apply. Both use elastic yarn and are machine made. Round knit are made like usual stockings, which mean they have no seams and they also use a lighter yarn and are lighter on the pressure than flat knit. The different size of the stocking comes with different size of the seperat stiches, so no matter what size, every stocking has the same amount of stiches. With the way they are produced, they can't be used on unusual sizes. Flat knit is made of several pieces sewn together, the size comes by getting more or less stiches on the piece. That way they can be made the exact size needed to properly apply the wanted pressure on the whole area the stocking/ pantyhose covers and can be made for unusual sizes too. The applied pressure not only prevents new fluid to be retained in the tissue, but the massaging effect helps get rid of the retained fluids over time.  Both kind of them are usually costum made for the wearer by meassuring your legs up to your belly on specific points and come in different colors. I wear a nude shade, but could have choose if I wanted pink or purple or a really cool teal.

Sorry for the little preaching about compression therapy, but I love my pantyhose, because at the end of the day my legs feel like legs and not like painfull heavy concrete collums.

Thank you. My dad wears compression stockings and I had no idea they can be custom made. My mom has me searching everywhere for a stocking that will fit him but his leg is getting a bit bigger and even XXL isn't fitting. What or who would I look for to find someone who custom makes them?

Has he seen a doctor specialised in angiology/ phlebology? Because if it is only one leg and it's getting bigger despite wearing compression stockings points to a bigger problem and that needs to be examined what causes the swelling. I don't know if the procedure is different to the US, but here you get a prescription with what kind of stocking and what class of pressure you need after seeing your doctor. A good point would asking a physiotherapy practise that also does manual lymphatic drainage, they usually know where to get them. Sorry I can't be of more help, since I'm on the other side of the pond.

His condition is closely monitored by a doctor but they've only recommended the one size fits all compression stockings that you find at the drug store. I'll check into physiotherapy. Thanks for the information.

If you are in the US, I'm surprised he hasn't been measured, told what level of compression he needs, and then referred to a medical supply store for fitting.  That's how it worked for me.
