When the siblings were asked who would have the most kids, I’m pretty sure everyone said Tori and Bobby.

The only good thing I can name about Tori and Bobby’s parenting that aside from the number they have, I know nothing about their children or their lives. They post next to nothing on social media. Heck, last week when Kelly posted individual family pictures, she did not include one of the Smiths. I think the Smiths might be more aware of their kids’ privacy, or maybe too busy to share.

It’s refreshing to find a Bates that isn’t selling something, trying to be an influencer, or just acting like an attention whore all over the internet.

Have I got a rabbit hole for you! There’s this family in the US with 19 kids and their names all fit to a theme. You should check them out.

I heard somewhere that their second eldest boy is a pilot, I'm not sure about it though could just be "facebook true."

Yes, the siblings said Tori and Bobby would have the most. I tend to think that the man leads in a patriarchal marriage until given some indication otherwise, just as I believe they aren't using birth control while in a fertility cult unless they say otherwise. Family planning - that I might buy in a convenient case like Alyssa not getting pregnant during her heart issues. Did they ever say they used some sort of contraception or is that speculation still?

I know that family. They have a "family theme." This was a comment about having two daughters whose names would fit together (separate from the sons). I don't even know what "fit together" means in this case.

I always thought the "J" names in the Duggar family was because "J" was for Jesus.

I actually meant in terms of age. She has two of each gender close in age. She moved Kolter in with Kade, likely to prepare for the new baby and so that eventually Charlotte and this baby will share. Makes it easier for room sharing etc. I am aware each family is different but from a small house perspective, it is a good combo.

Still puzzled. Kids don't have to be close in age in order to share a room. In fact, it can be better to have an older and younger child together (say, 7 and 3), instead of two rambunctious toddlers together in the same room, waking each other up at night.

I agree 100%. I eventually ended up unfollowing most fundies on Instagram because they were all trying to sell stuff 24/7. Plus the excessive kids posts got annoying too. Not everything needs to be shared on social media.

That's the thing fundies are missing. If you give your kids a good education, they have options when they grow up. They don't have to sell things on instagram using their children's pictures to attract viewers.  There are other ways to make money.

I don’t mind the shilling when the pitch is believable. As examples, Alyssa or Josie shilling make up products, that is a believable pitch as they both likely use those or similar products. Carlin as a clothing influencer, Jinger shilling coffee products or Jill promoting cooking products or recipes all work because one could believe that they actually use those types of products. Jessa shilling household cleaning items or Joy fake eyelashes, no. Those endorsements are just ridiculous. Please don’t insult the people you are trying to influence.

I find it amusing they they all usually shill the same thing. Like the vanity planet sets. They all ( even Jana ) have a code for that so their competition for money is each other. I wonder if they ever talk about it

It also seems like a waste for the sponsor as all of these people would be competing for the same pool of clients, and if companies were oversaturating market after market…maybe they only pay if you sell, so they don’t care.

I find that a lot with Katie specifically - seems like almost every Instagram story is an ad for a product.

Pretty sure the "J' was for "Jim Bob."

I vaguely remember Michelle saying they just happened to name the first 2 or 3 kids with J's and then kept doing it so next baby wouldn't be left out. I mean they were gonna name the baby right after pest Caleb, so I think it fits that they didn't decide to make it a J theme until Jana and JD.

I forgot how young she was! I thought she was closer to 30, but she's 26.  She has a few more years before she gets to 30! She'll probably have at least 6 kids then.

She seems older, based on her demeanor and the fact that Kendra Duggar has around the same number and Kendra is only 23!

People sure seem fascinated by these couples who have huge families at very young ages. It's a weird kind of approval, like "Let's see how far you can take this" or "Let's have a race and see who can have the most by 30"

These babies are more than a number and are going to be raised in poverty and chaos. What's "cool" to us is a tragedy to them.

  • 3 weeks later...

I started trying to get pregnant 9 months before Tori and Bobby got married and I had my one kid a couple weeks after she had her second kid. I cannot even comprehend that level of fertility.

Poor babies. Also, who tf has time/energy for sex when you have a 3 year old, 21 month old, and 6 month old? I guess in my world, years of sex didn't create a baby, but maybe Tori and Bobby are just that fertile that they really only need once, 6 months after they had a baby.

I imagine fundie sex is super quick since the women aren’t told that they can enjoy it too. I’m not trying to be crass. But if the man’s pleasure is all that matters, I bet it’s fast.

I doubt most of them enjoy it, with all the purity culture baggage, but isn't there a book that talks about how women are supposed to get off, too? Gifted to fundie couples on the eve of their weddings? I thought it was called "Intended for pleasure" but I haven't read it and it isn't on my short list.

Considering the couple that made that book TV famous ended up being a disaster (hint: pedophile and enabler) maybe they decided it was too pornographic for even married couples. Also, if you can't complain to your husband about how he acts and you must always support and uplift him, and also "make him a sandwich" at every beck and call, even if he applied Ed Wheat's principles and they didn't work you'd still have to hype him up or agree to it. If anything the philosophy is worse: women DO enjoy sex! so now you can coerce them into constant sex, since they LIKE it!

I'm surprised we don't occasionally hear of these women murdering their husbands. I mean listening to those patriarchs bloviate on and on for decades and never being able to correct them? And all the marital rape? Even if they don't believe that's a thing, it has got to wear on them anyway.

In the old mystery books I read, they always say poison is a woman's weapon. It's pretty easy to see why. In the old days they didn't have means of escape very often. I think before the books were written, it just happened now and then like ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I read and listen to too much murder stuff. So I know that poison was a common way of killing used by women for hundreds of years of history. And it makes sense. They were the ones expected to do the cooking and home keeping. So they had easy access to the food and house hold products that could make a person sick/die. Plus women were usually smaller and weaker so it’s not like they could beat and strangle a man to death. She may also have less experience with guns and wouldn’t feel comfortable using one to kill. Poisoning can sometimes mimic the horrible Diseases that were around back then. Like typhoid. So you could get away with it since no one suspected murder if it looked just like a disease.

Is this where I bring up Mary Ann Cotton, who is believed to have poisoned around 18-21 people with arsenic including 11 of her 13 children, 4 stepchildren, 3 of her 4 husbands and a lover.
