The latest any of my ancestors came to America was in the 1800’s. Those were my French and German ancestors. Most of my English ancestors came in the 1600s or 1700s. I have no connection to any European countries. I’ve never even been to Europe! I don’t have anything against England, Germany or France. But I feel zero connection and my family feels the same way.

My paternal grandmother grew up in Scotland (and we have cousins there). I think of it more as a potential perk if I do any traveling -- the Scottish Cousins have already declared that I'd use guest rooms in their homes rather than pay for hotels when I'm in that part of the country. Other branches are suspected to have R U N N O F T from central Europe (like Germany) due to well-known conflicts that they didn't want to be around for. But that doesn't make me European, it's just where my ancestors lived.

even though I'm 1st generation born here on one side and 2nd generation born here on the other, I feel no real connection to either Germany or Cuba other than the food (the glorious food!!!). I've spent my life here in the USA. Yeah, my maiden name was ethnic as hell...and if my mother had had her way, so would my first and middle names. Fortunately, my father got to the birth certificate before she did. The rest? Well, I see no point in going on and on and on about shit...I read somewhere that some of the white supremacists are getting their DNA done and finding out some surprises. I have no desire to do that...I'm aware that Germany and Spain (my grandparents were from Spain) and Cuba are full of historical invasions and who knows who did what to who and make such and such babies. Who the hell knows what I am racially! I'm a generic American type...

The alt-right fetishizes European art/culture/heritage so I'm really not surprised MM feels the same way. ? Apparently "American" is too multicultural to be a sufficient identity!

Seriously, a little while back I was doing some casual research into Germanic paganism and fairy tales, and I came across a blog that did have a lot of information to get me started. The blog author also happened to be affiliated with a magazine dedicated to the same topics, so I innocently visited the website for the magazine... holy hell, it was all about European (ie. white) superiority, and the cover article was about attacks on the “white European race”! I was like what kind of rabbit hole did I just fall down? I did some more googling and found that apparently it’s a thing now for white supremacists to be all into Germanic, Saxon, and Norse paganism.

Of course, this all happened on my work computer, so I quickly called my friend in IT to report that, incase I get surveilled or flagged or something, told her the whole story and emphasized that I am not affiliated with white supremacy. She laughed.

That's not new, unfortunately. The Nazis were already heavily pushing neo-pagan, pseudo-germanic "Aryan" religion and traditions, hoping to supplant the Christian tradition they perceived as "Jewish" and weak with all its charity and non-violence nonsense. Obviously, as the actual Germanic paganism has been extinct since the Early Middle Ages, these efforts didn't resonate much with the general public. But quite a few of the more "intellectual" Nazi leaders almost fetishized what they perceived to be the original Germanic heritage, obsessed over Wagner's Ring trilogy and even had an archeological research program dedicated to implant their revisited version of German history in the scholarly discourse. So, those right-wingers are merely imitating their role models.

US American identity is complicated...there is American nationality but there are many ethnic groups in the US whose identities are erased by the word “American.” And Latin and South Americans are also American.

So what is American? That’s the question sociologists and anthropologists are debating. Unfortunately many people connect it with a European/Christian identity but it’s much much more.

This originated with Else Christensen , and the Odinist Fellowship , I think . { https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Else_Christensen  ,  https://www.splcenter.org/fighting-hate/intelligence-report/1998/new-brand-racist-odinist-religion-march , https://www.revealnews.org/article/an-ancient-nordic-religion-is-inspiring-white-supremacist-jihad/ , https://wildhunt.org/2018/07/why-does-white-supremacist-odinism-thrive-in-prisons.html  , https://www.politicalresearch.org/2018/02/01/white-supremacys-old-gods-the-far-right-and-neopaganism }

There's also heavy nationalism within Hellenism (or the reconstruction of ancient Greek worship). I'm a pagan and it's like a fucking MINEFIELD of avoiding racists everywhere. I basically just stick to myself lol

@ignorantobserver, what you just said reminds me of a scene in one of the last episodes of “The Man in the High Castle.” (It’s based on a novel of the same name in which the Axis won WWII and Germany took over the eastern US.) It showed a big holiday party in which “O Tannenbaum” was playing and there was a white-clad Santa Claus-looking figure labeled “Odin.”

Do you recommend the series ? I have somewhat mixed feelings about the novel (I largely preferred "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep ?") but I liked that it's set in the Japanese-occupied part of the US,  which is an interesting variation on the very common "Axis-victory"-theme in uchronias. It focuses on imagining a syncretic culture heavily influenced by the Japanese elites that the American populace is trying to imitate. The series seems to imagine something similar for the Nazi-occupied America ? (Please say it's good, I have just finished Westworld and nothing to replace it...)

Anyway, it's a shame that the highly interesting Germanic mythology has become tainted by these right-wing-idiots coopting it (on a very superficial, decorative level of course, it's not like they are educated enough to actually understand what they are talking about...).

Supposedly , Santa Claus was largely based off of Odin ; but what do I know ?  { https://www.norwegianamerican.com/dont-take-odin-out-of-yule/ , http://anitasnotebook.com/2013/12/santa-claus-strange-origin-odin-the-viking-god-of-war.html , https://sonsofvikings.com/blogs/history/viking-origins-of-christmas-yule-traditions }

Not all Odinists are white nationalist though . I want to make that perfectly clear to everyone here . For a famous example , Dylan Sprouse has repudiated racialism , and he's an Odinist .

Quote

Mead also has spiritual importance to Sprouse: he identifies as a Heathen, a form of Norse Paganism, and says the decision to relate the brewery to his spirituality was “very poignant.” Both the name and symbol for the brewery come from Heathenry, and according to Sprouse, he doesn’t relegate his religion to one tiny part of his life “For me, and for many Heathens…I don’t think you ever really divorce yourself from your spirituality, what you are is your spirituality, and a lot of the times the things that I do are spiritual in nature just because I’m doing them.”

Sprouse did, however, make it clear that he and his team wanted to separate their venture from the more “gnarly” parts of the community, however, referencing the growth of white nationalism within parts of the Heathen community. He stressed that he wants to move mead in a “different direction,” and create an “open-minded, melting-pot establishment.”

https://www.vice.com/en_us/article/xw7e37/dylan-sprouse-mead  But there actually has been a divide within the Heathen / Asatru community over the issue of identarianism .  https://www.vice.com/en_us/article/59kq93/racists-are-threatening-to-take-over-paganism

I'm amazed at her silence. I'm amazed at how ... badly timed it is. Does she really think anyone believes her? Out of all times, NOW she has personal issues? She was posting regularly on instagram, selfies and all, before the protests began. It's like saying your dog ate your homework.

Like most stupid people, she thinks that everyone else is also stupid. She just doesn't want to talk about BLM and George Floyd. WHICH IS FINE. SERIOUSLY. THE FEMINAZIS WON'T HUNT YOU DOWN, CAIT, I PROMISE.  Just a simple post expressing her condolences would have sufficed (as she did), and then you move on with your posting schedule. That's what most youtubers did. No need to get deep into politics if you don't want to.

She's just waiting for this to die down, before her followers get a hold of her and her husband's insensitive screenshots about race and policing. That's what this is about.

All in all, Caitlin has made a reputation of being two-faced and duplicitous in how she presents herself. So naturally these conveniently timed personal issues come off as fishy.

Just be real. Don't be a liar. It's not that difficult. This isn't ~feminine mystery~, this is sniveling cowardice.

@mymelody Are people posting about that? Everytime I've looked at her comments, they're always supportive and oh-so-grateful.

@snarky_snark I think the protests really kicked up around the States the weekend of May 29th, and coincidentally, on May 31 she posts that she's 'going through things'. I'm pretty sure up until that point she thought she could get away with carrying on as normal, until a bunch of others began posting in... well, support might be too strong a word. But if you see Jessa Seewald posting a "Made in God's Image" black box, and Caitlin posting OOTD like usual, you might wonder. Especially since most of her viewers don't seem to realise her connections to Red Pill / white supremacy.

Eh. I don't agree with sidelining "politics" as some specialty interest that there's "no need to get into." What is going on right now is huge, and relevant to all. Acting as if it's not happening says something about a person to me.

I'm not saying that I think everyone has to talk ONLY black lives matter right now, or that talking about things that are also happening right now (graduations, for example) should stop, but head-in-the-sand is something I notice, yeah.

I've found it really interesting and heartening when people from various industries/fields are taking this opportunity to examine how racism and other prejudices express in their specific worlds. People without their own words to add to the conversation are amplifying the words of others. I appreciate that.

If you look at the most recent comments rather than the top comments on her videos you can see how people criticize her. If you can't find any she or racist husbland has deleted them. These she surprisingly didn't delete but she deleted a comment which gained a lot of attention of husblands racist post.

She posted 2 videos yesterday. One vlog and one money video. The vlog is private and the money video is public if you have the link. It confirms she is avoiding BLM and is not going through personal issues.

Of course, her fangirls are clamoring for 'proof' and claiming it's just 'women gossiping' when confronted with said proof [gotta get that sexism in there].

From the vlog, which was posted on YT an hour ago: "I've been taking a small break from social media, but I did record this content before I began my break, so I wanted to use it!"

Suuuure you did.

I'm watching it rn as it's titled `This Was a Hard One...`. I'm betting 100% there's absolutely nothing difficult for her during this blog.

Vlog 17 thoughts. Apologies for the length ?:

Spoiler

I can finally look at food so I won't be skipping as much. This video starts off with her making breakfast and you can tell she's really been influenced by Japanese and South Korean DITL videos as well as cottage core- the popular ones all have a specific style to them. It's hard to describe but I see her trying to do some of the same things. She of course isn't pulling it off because she's INCREDIBLY stiff.

Something about the font she's using in the overlays is making me irritable.

She shows us through her closet (like she's trying to decide what to wear). There is no defined style to her clothing other than "atrocious patterns one might have found at Chico's 13 years ago"

We see her undergarments again, including her lacy ass bra (for staying at home??? fucking WHY) and her "smoothing bra". Honestly, just don't wear something with such texture and then you wouldn't have to wear an overlayer? But tbh she's probably wearing two to boost her chest size artificially. She chooses the ugliest dress in her closet. Is this why her day was so difficult?

She's painting her laundry room PINK! Omg SO CrAZy YoU GuYs! She confirms that her husband does zero laundry and never sets foot in the laundry room, so LADIES SHE WANTS IT PINK. Honestly I hope she never gets ill or goes out of town- who'd wash his streaked undies then???

She shows us her latest amazon purchases she loves: A bucket hat (big vsco girl vibes), wooden spoons (inspired by DING DING DING a japanese vlogger), a makeup powder, a self tanner spray (she lifts her leg to show how she applied it once and oh boy her application is BAD. ITS A BAD SELF TAN JOB), and finally a scalp scrubber for shampooing. She talks about the Flylady system. It's a good system so I can't judge her there. I tried it before I fell pregs, and probably should go back into it but it's VERY confusing.

MY FAVORITE PART: She recommends "for the christian viewers" a youtuber named Doreen Virtue and then explicitly states "She's an ex-new ager who came out of the new age belief system and into christianity". I about died laughing. This lady made angel oracle cards and now is against anything "new-age" because it's a path to demons. Yes, this includes YOGA. I have her Goddess oracle card set (which I fucking love). I'm living for this. LIVING FOR IT. Per Caitlin: "she's not afraid to really dig into the truth and dig into things involving the modern church... I notice that a lot of christian women's minitries really focus on self-esteem, how do I feel beautiful, fear, anxiety and the thing I love about Doreen is that she digs past that and into pure biblical knowledge and things we need to be aware of as Christians in our modern world."  The main video on Doreen's youtube is titled: "Why "Contemplative Prayer" is a dangerous new age mystical practice". LIVING FOR IT I TELL YOU.

Caitlin- lemme read your tarot cards. Please.

FINALLY we get to why the video is titled `This Was a Hard One...`. It's because it's so hot in her house and she's having technical difficulties with her phone. Yup.

She's put on sweatpants so you know the day has been draining and rough for her. She states repeatedly that she doesn't have a lot to say or share. What about idk... what's going on in the world? With BLM? Nothing? No? Ok. Bring in the husband.

She states that she showed her husband how healthy her hair was and he was happy for her and apparently this is GROUNDBREAKING and shows he's a good husband. "I honestly think that's one of the best parts of marriage is when your husband is supportive of something that is important to you but doesn't affect them in any way" UM. Duh? That's like.... in any good relationship? Honey are you ok?

I started skipping through this pretty heavily after that. It ended without fan fare. I'm very motivated to read some oracle cards now, thanks Mrs. Midwest!!

And just in case someone was wondering and didn't want to read the whole thing: No she does not mention anything about the protests/blm/police brutality in any way, shape, or form. She doesn't mention any "personal struggles" she's been going through either. So it's a cop out and there you have it.
