My goodness, this is so bizarre.  This woman already has five kids (the unofficial appropriate number of Mormon offspring).  She claims the family "travels the world and has great experiences."  Something very hinky here.  She's got some 'splainin to do.

Just checked online.  The incident happened in early Sept 2019. She's been out on bail, but was charged with kidnapping at a recent hearing for the human trafficking charge.  The kidnapping charge means she won't be out on bail and will be in jail until her next hearing  in March.  

Apparently, she had arranged with the teen (19-year-old) mom to take the infant back to the US for some kind of blessing or protection. 

The mom is from Sandy, Utah.  There's much more to this story (gotta be) but the details are scant, although this original (Sept 2019) Salt Lake Tribune article has some details about the birth mom.  Utah woman arrested at Manila airport with newborn in bag

I also noted that my google search didn't turn up a lot of US press coverage; most of it is local to the Salt Lake/Sandy area and even that isn't too detailed.  The birth parents in the Philippines are known, but have not been arrested.   

My impression is that this woman is not getting support from the Mormon church or the US embassy.

I think the 'blessing' is a cover story, because she could have arranged to take him for a legal visit, no?
