I edited her rules.  These are a lot more fun:

Step one:  if you kids are smarter than you and realize you are a moron give up.  The kid is in charge and will always be out witting you.

Step 2:  Get a dog training book and a ton of treats.  A toddlers intellect is on par with a puppy. Like a puppy any toddler will do anything they are capable of doing that you want them to do with a bribe.  Skittles, M&Ms, or banana bites will do quite nicely.

step 3:  older kids want money.  Tell them you will pay them off if they do as they are told.

step:  4:  a kid with a driver’s license will do just about anything for the keys to a vehicle.

Remember:  Your relationship with your kids should resemble the mob.  If they follow the rules they are paid off generously.  If they don’t send them to live with the Pearls.

@Tatar-tot, I firmly believe that any parent who thinks it’s productive to get into a battle of wits with a baby or toddler is a fucking moron. Yes, I mean YOU, Michael Pearl, Lori, and your acolytes.

no, children do not comprehend what you are saying at 6 months. It sounds like both books promote child abuse. How could you ever look at a baby and think that they need to be hit?

No you fucking shouldn’t punish them without warning. I work with kids. I literally get paid to give therapy to children. And why are some kids in therapy? Because of assholes like this who just want to swoop down and punish their children. Talk with them and realize not all children immediately understand what they did wrong. Children don’t always have the ability to view things with permanence and apply nuance to situations. You tell them not to spill their Cheerios but when they spill their pasta, well you didn’t tell them not to. Yes set limits, yes have rules and structure but don’t fucking punish without warning. And guess what? Counting can work if used consistently and with set consequences. Consistency is key and that’s why it’s important to talk with them. And don’t hit your kids.

This woman is so dangerous.  All she is trying to is justify child abuse.  Sick.  Why doesn’t Facebook throw her off their platform.

I used to count to 3. To this day my kids are scared of what would happen if mama got to 3. They have visions of atomic bombs, scorched earth, flying chanclas. They know I don't play and I don't make threats. They also know I'm just a bit nuts.

Yeah, my children are convinced that mama is bonkers...I rarely lost/lose my temper with them...they had to try really hard to push me over the edge. They were more successful as teenagers than toddlers. When they were toddlers/preschoolers, I was convinced that darn near everything they did was adorable. It hasn't changed much, what drives my kids nuts about my grandchildren, I think is sweet, adorable, funny, independent thinking, smart. Yeah, I'm one of THOSE grandmas.

I can't even with this rich un-Christian man.

I have words for this. Lots of words. Unfortunately most of them are obscene and unsuitable for polite society, so I will leave them unsaid. Maybe he and Lori could donate theirs to helping the homeless, the sick, poor...you know, like their Bible so clearly commands.

It's on Ken's public Facebook page. He also said this, in the same comment:

Quote

Quite frankly I am a bit perturbed over where our country has come that most cannot live six weeks without a paycheck, and most businesses do not have two months reserves. After all, socialism is nothing more than you and me and others paying for it all.

Of course he's perturbed. He has no idea how most people live. It's perturbing that so many are paid so little that they can't save up for emergencies like this, isn't it, Ken?

I don't know enough about it to comment on his socialism remark (I really need to read up on it, I know), but it sure smacks of 'I've got mine and more, and it's too damn bad you haven't got any, and I'm certainly not going to share with you,' doesn't it? I sometimes wonder if they ever even donate a can of green beans (heh) to a local food pantry. After reading this, I'm gonna guess not.

Lori and Ken have no clue what it means to have a global small business. This is our month 4, because our business was affected when China shut down in January. But I sure as hell am not going to bitch and complain about people needing assistance through this time.  They are so ungrateful for what they have.

I’m not an expert on economic history but I’m going to go out on a limb and say that we’ve never had a point in history when everyone in this country could live six weeks with no income.
Ken is ignorant to the point of delusion.

As for the stimulus money, we’re using ours to pay bills over the summer since I don’t work then and save money during the school year for that. We’re currently using what I had already saved. My districts have been closed since March 6 and March 11.  They will not resume until fall.  And that makes not six weeks but nearly  twelve weeks of lost income.  So Ken needs to just shut up.

Ken is missing the bigger picture.  The stimulus checks will also help keep the economy afloat and avoid a big depression.   Many companies, especially small businesses, will not survive this shutdown.  Even the larger companies who have had to lay people off or close their doors for a while will not return to their full size and income that they had before the virus.  Not everyone will suddenly be back at work in 6 weeks.  Many jobs that people had before this time will not be there at the end.  And if people aren't able to pay their bills, not only does it impact them but it can turn into a domino effect.  For instance, a person with no income might not be able to pay his rent, causing his landlord to have problems with his bills, especially if he is just a small business owner who is depending on that money.  The checks should help keep money flowing and the economy going.

Even orthodontic consultants, such as Ken, could see a decrease in business if people lose their jobs and therefore their dental insurance and stop going for their dental and orthodontic visits.  Those dentists will see a decrease in their income and won't be spending money on his services.  So he could eventually be impacted as well - hope he's been able to save for more than 6 weeks...  his wife needs her $14 butter.....

For someone who calls himself a Christian, he has no sense of compassion (or common sense) whatsoever.

I have never met a parent that had to be taught to love their children. Maybe parents who find them a burden or believe that all kids need satan beat out of them.

My roommate and I are lucky to still be working. My clients have been incredibly gracious and kept my productivity up. However, those in my company who fall under a certain productivity (even mental health has profit concerns) are being redeployed to other spots or mandated time off for a week. We can also take a couple days off throughout the week to manage it if we aren’t making numbers. I want to save my PTO for if I get sick.

But seriously outside the one percent most the country can’t survive six weeks no income, especially the ones that have those multiple children that the Alexander’s like to encourage. Those that are still working are fearful of getting sick and are under constant stress. I can’t even begin to fathom the mental health crisis we are going to have.

More than ever this pandemic is revealing how much the 1 percent do not live like most of the world. Easy access to testing, large mansions with plenty of access to activities and supplies, attempts to buy up medicines and ventilators for themselves..... politicians trying to pass bills with their own agenda rather than give a rats ass about the people.

Working with kids there are some parents who don’t love their children. However when I read this verse it always reminds me of my role as a child therapist. I help parents who love their children demonstrate love to their children through emotional expression, structure, and communication. Not everyone has had that teaching in their lives and it hurts their relationship with their kiddos. So I see this verse as wise women stepping up to teach new mothers how to take their feeling of love to the actions that stem from love.

However, because Lori is so focused on love being an action rather than feeling (cause feelings bad) that she can’t quite grasp what this person is asking. Her reply is clunky and robotic. Idk maybe I’m being nit picky but having seen her talk on this topic before I don’t think she understands healthy love.

I’m guessing at least one of Ken’s kids does not have six weeks worth of savings set aside. Isn’t Cassie’s husband a student or recently graduated? They have three small children and she does not work. Ken always forgets that his kids are only making it financially because he has helped them to some extent. At least, that seems to he the prevailing opinion here.

Speaking of the Alexander kids; Alyssa recently shared an old picture, on IG, of a school dance. Her dress was NOT modest and should have been included in the post Lori did years ago when she shamed her kids’ friends.

I was thinking this too, when I read his quotes about the stimulus. Don't get too cocky, Ken.  I'm not wishing financial ruin on anyone, but I'm not sure orthodontia would be the first thing on my to do list with the way this economy is going.

And yes, a stimulus check is actually meant to be spent, Ken.  On either necessities, or, yes, frivolous stuff if the person is lucky enough not to need it for necessities.

Certainly the lower orders have never had that luxury. This is why women have always been part of the work-force. Their income was necessary to keep the family from the workhouse or starvation.  Women and children, Lori and Ken, have always been a vital part of the economic system.

They worked in factories, down mines, on their farms or on the farms of bigger landowners. They sold food in the market place or they worked in service. Whole families followed the drum or lived on navy ships. They carried stones to build the magnificent castles and cathedrals of Europe.

They may have worked from their homes but they often worked for a pittance for other people. Piece work has always been a way of making up a shortfall of income.

Small children cleaned chimneys. The smaller the child, the better.

Lori and Ken seem to think everyone in the past was either very rich or in the genteel poverty of the Bennetts. And miss all the ranks of servants, labourers and tradesmen who populated the vast swathes of the rest of civilisation.

@Seahorse Wrangler  Yep. I ended up three hours short of a masters in history.  (Life intervened). The area of economic and social history not being my focus, I feel compelled as an almost historian to qualify statements. But you are absolutely right.
Popped back to share this nonsense found when IG recommended I follow Lori:

I was fairly certain I’d seen the phrase in literature way before the age of film. And online sources tell me that it goes back to the 1500s

@louisa05, thank you. History is a passion of mine. My main interests are the Tudor era and war history. I'm still messing around reading up the American Civil War and comparing it to the slightly earlier Crimean War. Some of the novel technologies of the Crimean War came to fruition in the Civil War.

My knowledge of the social and economic history is a recent development mainly due to The Era Farms starring Ruth Goodman et al. Sometime back in the late 1990's the BBC/PBS collaborated on  a  series called The People's Century which really opened my eyes to the history of the great mass of people in the world.

That looks really interesting. I’ll have to check it out after the holiday is done.
My masters was focused on the 20th C—mostly the world wars and how they impacted geopolitics.
