If it's the pic I saw yesterday, I think it's sourdough. Out pal Kristen Young posted something about never looking back once you tried sourdough.

I’d rather have my sour dough with a side of yarden and a messy kitchen  than white supremacy and irrational deep seeded fury.

I guess she kind of reminds me of my aunt. Not much fazes her. But that also meant her car was always a disaster. I would catch a ride with her and step over so much junk in her car. Her house was often a mess too. She would live in a house with a million half finished projects without even noticing. The thing is, even though she didn’t mind, her kids often did. I am willing to bet as some of the kids get older, they will help out a lot with some of the things that bother them around the house.

My mom was raised in a very structured home with 2 working parents. They were early to bed and early to rise, always on time kind of old country people. My mom is and always has been very passive aggressive with her lateness, which did impact me as a youngster. I am NEVER late to any structured event, appointment, work etc.

I’m always on time or early. Even if it means I have to sit in my car for a few minutes. My parents knew a couple who was always late (it was usually the wife’s fault). When they were at our house they were always the last to leave. When they got divorced & she moved to a different county with their kids I said “maybe he will be on time now” & he was.

She must not know how many grocery stores sell sourdough. We used to share sourdough cultures all the time as a kid. My mom called it friendship bread because you could split the culture, bake bread, and still have some to give to a friend. I don't believe she made up that term.

I've always called the sweet one Amish Friendship bread. That stuff is so good but I could never eat enough if it to keep it alive. Regular sourdough is totally too much for me!

Living in the SF Bay Area, I cut my teeth on sourdough. I'm not a baker, but when I buy a loaf, it doesn't last long. ?

My partner started sourdough baking last year when yeast became hard to find. Right now he is perfecting a sourdough focaccia bread recipe that is absolutely amazing.

Surdough might be my new lockdown project. Since I'm banned from work I have a lot of time on my hands.

@Grace: you can slice and freeze sourdough bread, mine freezes and thaws very well, we just take out however much we need at a time. Same for keeping the starter alive: I only ever save a very small amount, dry it out by adding some flour and put it into a tiny jar in the fridge, that way it keeps for months. When feeding it back up to bake with it, I collect the discard in a big jar in the fridge and make "discard pancakes" which taste absolutely awesome. Sorry for the unsolicited advice, I've just been very passionate about my sourdough for a few years now. I even finally got good enough at baking sourdough bread last year to bring the SO to give up the cheap white sandwich bread from the store (we still keep it around but it has been hanging around in the freezer untouched for months).

We bake our own sourdough bread for years now. We love it, my digestive system loves it and my co-worker loves when she gets a loaf because I sometimes was to fast with the new bread and the freezer is still full. The variety of options of grains and flavors is amazing and we eat way more bread than before.

I'm having potato soup and homemade bread for supper. Does that tell you anything? My husband was diabetic and on an extremely low carb and low sodium diet, so it seems after he died last month, I only eat things I didn't cook before. Hoping I get over this or I'll weigh a ton.

I feel you!! And not only with carbs.. There is a reason we nearly never have candy or ice-cream at home.

God, I love carbs. Especially bread. And beer. And cake. All of which Germany does very well. Even my little town has 4 bakeries, each with their own special breads and cakes. There is also a Konditorei/Chocolatier.

I really need people to stay TF home and get vaccinated so the gym can reopen. I can't even go shopping for new fat clothes as all the shops are closed. I'm basically living in stretchy PJs right now. I've not had a beer in over a year, I've avoided most cake, but the bread is irresistible.

Did anyone else see that Sierra is now teaching a pottery class?  I knew that she had been taking classes.  But now she is teaching and selling her pottery.  She seems to have found a new passion/hobby.

I could eat cake every day. And I used to make this homemade honey white bread- it got so big the pieces were as big as a dinner plate. Oh my when that came out of the oven, that smell. We could barely weight (ha ha see what I did there) until it was cooled down just enough to spread butter on a piece and eat it. Then my A1C came back higher than normal. I had to break with with my bread and limit cake to birthdays only.

I wonder how long this new obsession will last. At least it isn't an MLM, and isn't food (so she doesn't have to worry about licensing issues). And if she ends up shipping pottery to buyers, lets hope she learned some things from her glass shard cupcakes debacle.

My suggestion is buying clothing online with really easy return policies. So you order the clothing, try it on at home, and then return the stuff that doesn’t fit.

Yes, I really should get some decent stuff. OTOH, it's not like I'm going anywhere for the foreseeable future! I have so many clothes, and so many of them are just half a size too small. (Then the 1.5 sizes too small wardrobe, which I haven't unpacked since I moved here, 4 years ago!)

At least it's finally stopped snowing, so I can go for some long walks. As long as I avoid all the bakeries along the way, lol. My problem is basically that I have no self-discipline, and I hate exercise! Except in the gym, where I get really into it for some reason.

A few years ago I realised that I calm down more easily if I bake. We had a couple of very stressful months at work and when this phase stopped, I started to bake regularly on sundays. I took the cake with me at work and my co-worker and I ate it happily. The first cake lasted till Friday, the next one only until Thursday...you might guess what I will tell you. When we finished one cake at Monday evening we decided that I had to stop baking for a while.

I love carbs. Especially pasta. No matter what kind of sauce is on, I just love pasta.

Probably until her next pregnancy

I was with you until you said cake...I thought you meant bake as in the "get baked" way, because that calms me down easily as well :lolside:

Carbs are my undoing. I just can't do them in moderation. They make me hungrier and they prompt me to eat as soon as I'm no longer full (rather than wait for a bit of hunger pangs).
I've experienced a bit of judgement from family and friends, but I have a much better relationship with food since I went low carb about three years ago. Now I plan my carb-ups and enjoy them without guilt.

I love baseball but I'm dreading the new season because the White Sox ownership is THE FUCKING WORST. I watched Dominican League Baseball (Lidom!) over the winter and fell in love with their joy, spirit, and exuberance. The broadcasts were in Spanish and my Spanish is pretty weak but I loved catching phrases and repeating them. Bombe! I'm sad about MLB and Commissioner Idiota's busywork rules. But I love baseball, always and forever.
I guess I don't have a point. Just bitching. Te amo mucho, Lidom!

      Happy International Women's Day!

Humanity may have some work to do, to improve gender equality, but I was glad to hear that France has taken an important step to protect healthcare for women (and people of other genders who can get pregnant).

Feeling ragey this morning. I have a doctor's appointment this afternoon in the hope of getting help for an ongoing injury. I went to a (different!!) doctor late last year who completely blew me off. He wouldn't do diagnostic testin, he refused to send me to a specialist, and he just told me to "take it easy" and "take ibuprofen." I'm hopeful for today's appointment but I'm also feeling a SEVERE amount of rage at that doctor from last year!

Well, the rash is back with a vengeance. It never completely cleared up. I saw the derm yesterday and they did another swab and yup, raging infection again, still? It is definitely strep skin infection. I am getting so damn tired and run down from this. Who the f would immagine being hospitalized freaking TWICE for a rash?

My niece is going to be a seat filler at this year's Academy Awards.  Seat fillers are asked to wear tuxedos regardless of sex/gender.  If you see a pretty young woman with very curly hair, it could be my niece.

It’s not supposed to be mosquito season right now but I still appear to have been bitten twice on the side of my foot. Bastards. I know I shouldn’t scratch but it’s so tempting… 😑
