The sad thing is it's the children's show. No one would have been interested in watching Gil and Kelly and Michelle and JB. I know this is a small thing to be upset about but god these selfish parents really steam my clams.

But if the skirt wearing is put on for show and we know the no TV thing is no more- if it ever was- it begs the question why is there a show? Their USP was a large family that lived off grid- we now know they don’t, there are lots of ultra conservative large families out there - so what do they bring to the party other than self promotion for their influencer careers?

I think that old picture of Lauren in pants was from the yoga thing they did at that retreat and not just what she was wearing for a normal day or whatever. (I lowkey hate myself for knowing that without even having to go back and check!)

  • Anna - raised skirts-only & skirts-only in-laws (QF/QF)
  • Abbie - raised skirts only, but most sibs wear pants & skirts-only in-laws (QF/QF)
  • Jill - raised skirts-only & pants-allowed in-laws (QF/Not)
  • Jessa - raised skirts-only & pants-allowed in-laws (QF/?)
  • Kendra - raised skirts-only (100% still) & skirts-only in-laws (QF/QF)
  • Jinger - raised skirts-only & pants-allowed in-laws (QF/Not)
  • Lauren - raised skirts-only & skirts-only in-laws (QF/QF)
  • Joy - raised skirts-only & skirts-only in-laws (not sure about older forsyths) (QF/Not-but maybe preached it?)

The ones who have most skirts-only momentum: Anna, Kendra, and Lauren. Specifically with Kendra and Lauren, they are the oldest in their families and would have to break the ice there, not just at TTH. Anna is Anna.

Next up: Abbie and Joy. Both seem likely to me to allow some flexibility here. Abbie's one sister still at home wears skirts, but most of the marrieds or in-laws don't, even around the Burnett family. Abbie wears workout pants already. I expect she wears pants other times if she feels like it. Joy wears shorts sometimes when working outside. She and Austin are pretty casual. For both Abbie and Joy, I see part of this being that they own a lot of skirts and dresses and may not feel as comfortable buying/wearing pants.

I guess I'll put Jessa wedged in here. Jessa's gonna do what she wants and she'll find a way to be simultaneously sanctimonious and sarcastically confused about why people consider it a thing either way. Also, I think Jessa likes her clothes, so a transition is probably not overnight.

Finally: Jill and jinger. Both had some distance from family of origin and seem to have closer relationships with in-laws. Both seem to be trying to branch out as their own brand.

I added QF for quiverful notations as well, since they tend to correspond with skirts-only in the parent generation. That correlation doesn't work anymore, but it's interesting to me.

@theothereliseI think if Jessa did not have body image issues that she has expressed in the past, she might be wearing pants more often too, and more importantly, be willing to be photographed in them.

The only one of them who would really surprise me if she wore pants, is Kendra. I mean she goes skiing in a skirt!

Even I, as an avid skirts-/dresses wearer (not for religious reason) would definitely not go skiing in a skirt. This is just so weird.

So yes, if she wore pants for whatever occasion, I would be surprised.

I think Joy is too self conscious to wear pants too. We know she went on a diet program before, and she seems to prefer looser shirts with her skirts and flowy dresses (as opposed to Lauren who wears some form fitting clothing). She also seems to be “proud” she can do heavy work in a denim skirt. I don’t mean to be shaming Joy, but sometimes I think she looks “dumpy” because of her ample bosom and baby weight and pretty dresses hide that, whereas she would need very well-styled and perfectly fitting jeans to avoid an awkward fit (and she already isn’t used to seeing herself in jeans/ shops at consignment). I know this because I feel we have a similar body type and I am VERY picky about the cut of my jeans — an amateur pants wearer might just give up after one bad fitting room experience.

Even the Duggars and the Bates don’t ski with skirts so the Caldwells are one step deeper in the believe.

Joy wore pants while hiking right? But I don’t think we will see (full) body photos of her in jeans, because of the reasons @kmachete14 mentions

I’m pretty sure I saw one of the M-girls in pants once. Meredith I think. I wonder if it’s because she’s only young.

Here it is - it was from when Mason was born.

Gil and Kelly Bates make the girls living under their roof wear skirts over their ski suits.  Kelly said so on an IG post.

I think her little tunic is just hiked up. It does look to long to be a shirt but not long enough to be a tunic 🤷‍♀️

I don’t think Lauren is wearing pants in that photo. It looks like a denim skirt with a frayed hem and a tiny slit in the front. Lots of the Duggars and Bateses have worn similar skirts. It just looks like pants/shorts bc the way her purse is being held, we can only see the bottom of the slit and it’s pressing against the fabric making it look like it’s wrapping her legs. There is no crotch of the pants either, just solid fabric like a skirt.

I think we very well might be seeing Lauren in jeans at one point. She is definitely into fashion and her style before the wedding and the wedding dress make me believe it’s a real possibility. Her parents might be skirts only but they still allow their daughters very normal, form fitting and hip clothing.

The wild card is Josiah. It will be his decision in the end. If they stay closer to her parents he might get on board. Especially as we all speculated that he prefers his father in law to his own father.
She also might wear jeans when it’s just the two them at home. We have seen many couples that did things pretty differently in private and we only found out by accident/after they felt comfort enough and accepted in their decision.

If the show ends I think they’ll all wear pants except for the ones still at home, Anna ( because she is a huge suck up to JB &M ) and Kendra ( because judging by their reaction to the pandemic her family is just as batshit as the Duggars) .

I just figured Abbie wears them whenever she wants since she's been photographed so many times in them, like here and here (crossing fingers that they're going to be under the spoiler when this posts...):

Spoiler

Edit: They weren't! I can only ever do it right after editing, ughhh.

People are in lockdown and losing their jobs- but Lauren knows the most pressing question is ‘what lipstick do you wear?’.

Do we know what Josiah’s job is? Is he one of JB’s general labour pool?

I believe he works at the same car lot as Joe.

My first thought when I saw her story was, "I bet this is the only money they have coming in right now except for what JB gives them." I doubt people in Arkansas are buying cars at the moment, with so many jobs up in the air. I'll give her a pass for doing Instagram paid promotions right now.

I’m sure you’re right. I think I’d have more time for her if she was honest- times are tough, treat yourself to a lipstick with a healthy discount if you use my code and help us make ends meet. But they cannot admit their fantasy lifestyle is  just that- Josiah cannot earn enough to keep them in that lifestyle they like at the moment so they need her to bring some money in.

if the show tanks I don’t see these 2 making a living from being influencers - I can see Jessa , Jill and Jinger and possibly Jana doing OK but the boys and their wives not so much.

I think it was discussed on the Seewald thread that he is on some lengthy Moody ministry programme. He was seen on the show teaching the younger kids in the big house but it’s not known if he does that regularly or it was just for filming. They don’t mention any other form of work.

Obviously So he has no steady decently Paid job or we would have known by now. Duggar girls don’t dig a working man.

When the show ends, I see JD (and Abbie), Josiah, Austin, Derick, and Jeremy having a lot of problems finding steady jobs.  They have marketable skills.  The others, I'm not so sure about.  It's going to be a rude awakening.

I bet no fundy mom every got such a touching Mother's Day tribute...

My uncle just died from COVID. He wasn’t that much older than I am, so I kind of grew up with him. Just ten days ago my mom had been pleading with him to get vaccinated, but he wanted to wait to make sure the shots were really safe. I’m kind of devastated.

I just found out my little bonus kid is in a treatment center on a suicide watch tonight. He and I share a hobby and a couple weeks back he opened up to me that he's severely depressed and was wanting to hurt himself. I let his parents know and thankfully he had also been talking to them. I'm just heartbroken because him being in this center means that his parents had to call 911 and have him admitted and I know that was so hard for them to do. He's a young kid and has his whole life ahead of him but just wants to end it all and I don't know how to help him.

Middle aged woman with mommy issues...but missing her today.
She got so much wrong with me, but she had the best intentions and tried so hard.
She got so much right, too.  I forget that sometimes.  Sometimes I remember and dismiss it out of spite.
“They did the best they could with the tools they had.”  I forgot where I first heard that but I’ve carried it with me like a mantra since my parents passed.   They truly did.  Whatever else was missing, whatever I needed that they couldn’t give, the love was always there.

      Always.
      That’s something.
My confidence in my own abilities.  Faith in my own power.  My own strength.  They gave me that, too.
      That’s also something.
They’re why I’m messed up, but they’re also why I’m okay.

      Shit’s complicated.
She died before I figured out how smart she really was.  Sad thing is I don’t think ever figured that out for herself.
Ignore me - just crying in my car waiting to pick up my son.
