Could American Evangelicals Spot the Antichrist?

I don't know if Formerly Fundie, a blog by Benjamin Corey, devoted to American and Christian culture and the end times has been discussed here. I know I'd forgotten all about his blog until someone pointed out this post that lays out the biblical predictions of the coming of the antichrist. Seems like Christians wouldn't have much trouble recognizing him, but. . .anyway, here are the highlights, which are themselves a long read,  but please read the entire post, which includes the actual prophecies, chapter and verse, from Daniel, Matthew, II Thessalonians, and of course the Book of Revelations

https://www.benjaminlcorey.com/could-american-evangelicals-spot-the-antichrist-heres-the-biblical-predictions/

  • The Antichrist will be the leader of a nation that is a military superpower with the ability to trample and crush the entire earth.

  • The Antichrist will be a man who is exceptionally arrogant and will be known for giving boastful speeches.

  • The Antichrist will be someone known for making a lot of public threats against people.

  • The Antichrist will come from among 7 tall “hills” that each act as a “head.” [nb: this one is a bit of a stretch for me]

  • The Antichrist will cause people all over the globe to be filled with wonder and “follow” him.

And here's where it gets downright eerie:

  • The Antichrist will be a political outsider with despicable character and a contemptuous personality who wins an election that no one expects him to win.

  • The Antichrist will give speeches where he speaks “great things” and then about things that are even “greater.”

  • The Antichrist comes to power through collusion with a secret alliance who uses disinformation to help him win– even though he has a minority number of supporters.

  • The Antichrist’s rise to power will seem like a miracle that God performed, tricking people into following Satan instead of God without even noticing.

  • As president, the Antichrist will immediately find ways to make himself and his friends richer– and he will do it in a way no president had ever done before.

  • Once in power the Antichrist will reveal that his heart wants to make alterations to the “appointed times” that are in current laws.

  • The Antichrist will make fake news popular and will be a chronic liar. His followers will believe his delusions because they hate the truth.

  • The Antichrist will reward those who are completely loyal with powerful positions and lucrative real estate deals.

  • The Bible says that we’ll be able to spot the Antichrist because he will give an arrogant public speech in the middle of his first term where he boasts of “great things” but also uses God’s name as a curse in the same speech.

  • The Antichrist will draw strong support from many Christians as if they are willfully blind and outright delusional.

  • The Antichrist will spend his first term in office having an ongoing feud with the leadership of the nation on his southern border.

  • The Antichrist will be so angry at the king to his south that he will decide to intentionally inflict harm on that ethnic group in retaliation.

  • The Antichrist will be furious over “rumors and reports” that come from the east and north, and will fly into fits of rage as the reports surface.

  • The Antichrist will appear to receive a wound he can’t recover from, but will survive to put down the first attempts to remove him from office.

  • The Antichrist will have the nation’s most powerful religious leader influencing the country for him. This leader will try to convince Christians that the Antichrist is “God’s pick” and that we need to support him. [nb:<cough> Franklin Graham <cough>]

  • The Antichrist will see himself as being above everyone else, as if he had no need for God. He will eventually elevate himself as the God and King of Israel

  • The Antichrist will worship the god of border walls. (For real. The Bible actually says that.)

  • The Antichrist’s most devoted followers will wear a sign of their allegiance to him on their foreheads. [MAGA hats?]

  • … But the people who truly know God and remain faithful, will firmly “resist” him. [Thank god for John Pavlovitz, and Rev. Chuck Curry, and the handful of other progressive Christian spokespeople.]

You would think fundies wouldn’t have much trouble spotting the anti Christ but since they sold their souls to him they’re not that sharp on spotting false saviors.

I know, right? And here they were all claiming for 8 years that Barack Obama was the antichrist! There is cause to be optimistic that evangelicals may be starting to wake up. https://sojo.net/articles/international-bonhoeffer-society-calls-ending-donald-trumps-presidency-statement-concern

I have jokingly said that if we lifted that bizarre mop of yellow hair that we would find the Mark of the Beast on the Cheeto in Chief's forehead.  On the serious side, I  have said that I see a lot of parallels between him and Hitler.

And of course the people that did the Bible miniseries went out of their ways to make Satan look like President Obama even though without makeup Mohamen Mehdi Ouazanni looks nothing like Obama.

Evangelicals I knew all had tunnel vision and wouldn’t recognize the anti Christ if it bit them in the ass.   They don’t realize it will most likely come from within.  They see what they’re told to see.

It does look as if it constituted a type of black face .  Fortunately , those scenes were later edited out .  https://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/films/news/satan-cut-from-the-bible-for-looking-like-barack-obama-9138277.html

And it was supposedly an unintentional resemblance .  https://www.newser.com/story/164634/internet-freaks-over-bible-s-obama-satan-resemblance.html

I know! Where is that hot Antichrist I was told about?! Instead we got some old lumpy pillows with a bad wig.

I think Trump has shown for sure that way, way too many American Christians will follow anyone who promises them power. So, yeah, they would totally fall for the Antichrist.

I wish I had the verse reference, but I was always under the impression that the Antichrist would not be American.  I've been waiting for a charismatic European leader to step forward.

From my memory this came from verses in Daniel. I was always told it would be European, but IMO a lot of that stemmed from the hate for "socialists" European countries and the idea that a terrible person like that couldn't come from a "good God fearing" country like America. Of course some of these people were willing to put that aside to make Obama the antichrist because of just racism.

In the end, these verses can mean anything you want them to mean. So the people who worship Trump will never see him as being the antichrist, or even a bad person and they will be able to make the Bible say someone else is the real antichrist.

I am sometimes of the belief that it has already past and was referring in cloaked language to the Roman Empire.

Not only would they not recognize the antichrist, they wouldn't recognize Jesus himself.  They'd likely lock him up or shoot him.

I'm sure that in the church I grew up in the ushers would have leapt to their feet and frog-marched Jesus right out of there before he got halfway down the aisle.

Every time I read this thread title. I think "No!"

Evidence is they can't even tell that Trump is playing the Christian card for votes and he openly doesn't act like a Christian in actions, speech and priorities. He acts like a demigod.

I have nothing else to add besides nope, they will never be able to spot the antichrist.

I can't tell if they don't actually notice all this about him or if they do notice, don't care and just pretend to not notice. There are some who seem to truly buy into the idea he is a great Christian.

Just like they wouldn't recognize Christ if He did the same.

The Messiah on Netflix is sort of a take on that concept @danvillebelle

We watched it in a week. Prompted some good discussion. I have my theories. I did mention to my husband, at least the Messiah looks Middle Eastern. That would just upset the right who don't want "those people" in this country.

And if He showed up at the Vatican he’d probably get excommunicated and escorted back in to Italy. Probably not by the Pope but at the order of some overly ambitious conservative cardinal.

I think the Pope (at least this one) would talk to Him, if He could get near the Pope.

Doesn't surprise me that Trump fits the antichrist predictions so well. So what can we expect in the future based on biblical predictions or other pundits?

I could be 100% wrong but I’m fairly confident that Trump is not the antichrist. The Bible says that the antichrist will be a genius in intellect (Daniel 8:23), commerce (Daniel 11:43; Revelation 13:16-17), war (Revelation 6:2; Revelation 13:2), speech (Daniel 11:36), and politics (Revelation 17:11-12).

Sorry, but your president isn’t a genius.
