If they got an opinion that remotely suggested it might be OK then I wouldn't be surprised if they decided to go for it.  Put it in the Lord's hands, etc.

Sadly this is what I’m expecting from them.

I hope the doctors and nurses get a few minutes to talk to her without her husband present. I'm sure AM is steeped in KoolAid   Flavour Aid and making her own choices, but I'm often reminded of that episode of Greys or House or Private Practice where the woman was pregnant and asked for the doctor to tie her tubes when her husband stepped away for ten seconds.

Does anyone have an idea of what tv show this episode might be from?  I'd like to watch it because of reasons.  Thanks for mentioning it @Maggie Mae

It was in a 2006 episode of Grey’s Anatomy. The scene involved actress Jean Louisa Kelly.

I had  a friend whose mother always had 10-12# babies; she had five (and miscarried twins) even though her doctors told her she shouldn't have a second, because her husband (a nasty drunk) refused to agree.  After the birth of her fifth, the doctors did something that wouldn't be detected, and she never had another one.  The next one would have killed her.

How did she have 10-12 babies if she stopped at 5?

I read it as 10-12lb babies.

I’m not a doctor, nor do I play one on TV, but I’ve followed a few breast cancer blogs and those women had hysterectomies and ovaries removed (can’t spell the technical term) to give them the best chance of avoiding recurrence since some(?) breast cancers are affected by hormones. If this is the case for NR-Anna I hope they will do whatever is recommended to keep her alive for the children she already has, but I fear they would prioritise her fertility.

Darn kids these days don’t know the pound sign. It’s just a hashtag now ;)

It's still a number sign as well.

When I teach music students what a sharp is, I always rattle off the list of other things it resembles: number sign, pound sign, teeny-tiny tic-tac-toe board. It was fun adding "hashtag" to the list a few years ago.

Did you know the shape is called an octothorpe?

I'm sorry, didn't think, but yes the hashtag after the number means lbs. to me.  Hashtag before number means "number xx".  She had three boys, all weighed 10 lbs.  The twins were at six-month gestation, I don't know how much they weighed.  My friend weighed 12 lbs, then her sister, who was the fifth live birth, weighed 8.5 lbs.  Their mother was in the hospital for several months after the last child was born, I don't know the cause for the long hospital stay.

I love snarking on them, but I truly hope she comes through fine. I'd hate to see all of those kids lose a Mom who does seem to love them.

I think they'll have a better chance of her being fine if they don't delay.  It has been weeks since the news of the tumor/cancer came out.  Simon was almost 7 lbs and my guess is he could have come a week or two sooner without significant risk.  They're waiting another week to see another surgeon.  I'm all for exploring options, making measured decisions, and recuperating after a birth, but what if the cancer is spreading?

I doubt they will delay more than the doctors recommend. When it comes to preserving a persons life, outside of a pregnant woman needing an abortion to survive, the Maxwells generally follow doctors' orders.

My guess is that if the doctors say Anna has to have a hysterectomy, they will see it as a sign God is done giving them children. If the doctors suggest treatment that would make Anna infertile, they will do the treatment, and say that if God wants her to become pregnant again, God will perform a miracle.

I can't seem them foregoing treatment just so that Anna might have more children.

I don't think they'd forego treatment but I'm wondering if they're going from doctor to doctor to try to find a treatment approach more acceptable to them.

@HerNameIsBuffy,  you'd want to make sure that the chemo drugs had exited Anna Marie's system, but with radiation you'd need to know the half-life of the radiotherapeutic agent.  It is the recommendation of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission that mothers that undergo radiation therapy wait for 5 half-lives of the agent used to ensure that 98% of the agent has decayed.  Now, this information is intended for nursing moms in order to determine whether or not and when a woman can resume breastfeeding, but it should also apply to pregnancy.   Dr Tom Hale, of the School of Pharmacy at Texas Tech and the expert on medications in mother's milk, agrees with these guidelines.

More likely trying to find a doctor who takes a medi-share program instead of real insurance [or do they possibly have real insurance?]

I think they have Samaritan?

And I could see them being limited in their choice of doctors due to that. I don't think they'd be denied treatment because of it, but I could see some specialists not being willing to take them on as long as they have other access to care.

I know the family practice I go to does not accept medi-share programs like  Scamaritan.  They have a sign near their check-in window that says so.

It’ll be interesting if this changes their (well, at least Chris and Anna) opinion on Samaritan and they reconsider real insurance after this.

Who am I kidding? Didn’t change Steviepoo’s mind when he had his heart attack, so I don’t expect this to, either.

(That we’re aware of)

Would Samaritan cover the costs if Anna needs to have a hysterectomy?

So much about this situation makes me curious because of their beliefs. I have a million questions.  Mostly, I really hope they are putting Anna’s health and recovery above all else.

I wondered this, too. I looked into Samaritan many years ago for myself. I was fundy-lite at the time but still couldn’t agree to all their conditions. There were so many! I don’t remember specifics, but even back then it was too restrictive for me to feel comfortable signing up for them.

I have to believe that AM will take precedence to any future arrows, but I do worry their lack of insurance will limit her options for care.

It's come up several times now, is a hysterectomy often recommended for breast cancer?  I can see where an oophorectomy might be if hormones contribute to the risk, but I was wondering if a total is often the result of breast cancer treatment?

Possibly not often enough. According to a study to be released, total removal of sex organs gives a much better chance of survival https://www.obermair.info/latest-news/blog/breast-cancer-hysterectomy-and-removal-of-ovaries-and-tubes/

however it is possible that these people will not accept “I’ve given you your quiver” as an answer, which would be unconscionable. They only accept an “answer from god” as the answer they want to have. I hope I’m wrong and that Chris and Anna go with medical and scientific advice. Good luck Anna!

I've just seen the photos of Anna Maria and her kids in hospital. Anna is my favourite pet fundie and I would honestky like to be her neighbourhood friend..if I was her neighbor and nasty spiritualist that I am.

I have followed everyone of her birth photos and she has looked radiant and beaming ..until.now. I felt very sad as she looked drawn a d worried and dare I say it even sad.

I hope she starts treatment immediately and I hope she is back to good health very soon.

I mean that with an honest heart.

Their doctor told them to wait 1 month after the birth before starting a treatment. As they're visiting another this week, maybe they are looking for a faster treatment, not a slower one. I can imagine Teri and Steve doing mental gymnastics to aprove *ungodly* medical treatments (minus abortion I suppose), if life is endangered. Chris and Anna are into the cult but children need a mother, so I wonder if flexibility will play a role.

Anna Marie looks worried in the pictures. The picture where she kisses the baby broke my heart. I cannot imagine her fear, no matter how much she prays, she must be scared.

I love Ruthanne (?? the girl with pink glasses). She looks LESS than thrilled with Simon. She must be fed up of babieeezzzz.
