I feel like Meri, Janelle and Christine should all leave him and move back to Utah or where ever they want to go and find a life outside of him.

Kody clearly only cares about Robyn in a romantic way, so let her stay and they can figure out their spirit children.

People talk about Meri leaving him and I realized the other day that she doesn’t need to. She already doesn’t see or communicate with him regularly. She has her own home he doesn’t come to. She makes her own plans and comes and goes as she pleases without having to let anyone else know. Before covid she went on trips and appeared to have many non-family friends. I wouldn’t be surprised if she has at least one bank account that no one else in the family knows about. At this point she doesn’t seem to be looking for another man, but if the right one came along I can see her starting a relationship.

The real question would be...how long before Kody or anyone in the family noticed Meri had a new man? Since they’re not even legally married it’s not like she would have to tell him if she suddenly decided to remarry (some financial things would probably be tricky). Now *that* would be amusing television 😅

S15 E10 Polygamy Hell Part 1 (hour one of the two hour finale)

This recap is more condensed—lots of repeated themes of the season.

STH- Solo talking head

Kody shares challenges of recording themselves; seven weeks into the pandemic. The five adults plus Hunter meet at Coyote Pass and have a socially distanced picnic. Meri in a STH said she is following Kody’s covid protocol. Christine in a STH said Hunter will come over to her house. Kody tells the crowd his doctor said it is like not wanting to have a child. If you don’t want a baby, no sex, only safe way, same with covid wear mask, wear gloves, don’t interact with others. Robyn said a mask won’t prevent pregnancy. Meri in a STH said if you want to cheat you have to take the precautions and said it is the perfect analogy. Christine would love for the family to get together. Janelle asks Kody are the precautions for the whole summer, Kody said he doesn’t know, revisit topic in two weeks. Robyn in a STH said she is high risk because she’s had pneumonia, believes other family members are high risk, but doesn’t feel it is her place to say so. Kody is pointing his fingers while talking and Janelle said that is just like Kody’s father Winn. Kody said if you get heavy duty covid it is like a concussion it will change who you are. Hunter disagrees. Janelle in a STH said they’ll be lucky to have a family when Kody deems it is safe for the family to get together. Janelle tells the crowd she can’t do it, might as well go visit Maddie for the summer. Janelle in a STH worries the toll on their family culture is higher than the risk of the virus. Christine in a STH said she wants to move back to Utah and be near other plural families and wants to discuss it with the family.

Meri and her mom Grandma Bonnie are working on recipes for the bed and breakfast. (Personal note I am glad Meri, and her mom had this time together because her mother recently passed). Mariah and Audrey are running the B&B. Mariah will finish her degree in social work and social justice in Salt Lake. Mariah and Audrey’s wedding planning is on hold.

Janelle goes to Meri’s house to discuss communication. Janelle said they need to determine ground rules to be more effective. Janelle in a STH said Meri gives non-committal answers. Meri said the family doesn’t discuss hard things with the person it needs to be addressed. Meri said they talk behind each other’s back. Meri said she’s cool with Janelle’s idea. Meri in a STH said she’s not in a husband-wife relationship with Kody, they don’t communicate.

Gwen and Aurora graduate high school. The graduation is a parade of cars. The cars are decorated, the graduates have cap/gown/diploma holder. Kody and Robyn are in the car with Aurora. Christine is driving Gwen. Christine is taking her girls to Utah to celebrate Gwen’s graduation. Kody in a STH is frustrated Christine is traveling because he told the older kids not to come to the graduation. Robyn in a STH said it was a shock to hear Christine was traveling. Christine in a STH said things with Kody have been hard for years. Christine and girls are going to visit Aspyn, Mitch, Mykelti, Tony and Paedon in Utah.

The adults meet at Coyote Pass to determine ground rules for conversation. Kody in a STH said he is coming to the conversation cynical. He is discouraged his wives don’t agree on his covid protocols. He is pissed off. Janelle says she needs to feel heard; Christine said she needs to feel important. Kody said he won’t write anything down because he doesn’t “give a shit anymore.” Kody in a STH said he doesn’t enjoy the relationship anymore because it feels like a constant fight. Janelle in a STH said Kody is in a dark place, he has said he is tired of being the middleman. Kody tells his wives he has stopped trying to unite the family.  Kody in a STH said he is in polygamy hell. Kody says they don’t respect each other’s values. He isn’t speaking about morals or religion. Meri in a STH said it is scary to have the leader of the family not care; she said the family is falling apart.

Kody in a STH said they aren’t one family anymore. Janelle in a STH said they are on the cusp of being separate or together. Christine reads the family mission statement. Meri in a STH said the mission statement reminds her of better times, scared they won’t get back to it. Christine in a STH said she hoped the family mission statement would inspire them. Christine tells the other adults she is nauseous and must lie down after most family conversations. Janelle in a STH said this is the first time she’s hearing how it wrecks Christine. Christine tells Kody she thought they had the same values. Kody said he sees the family as an obstacle to his own goals, and the mission statement feels like hypocrisy. Janelle said her mom has a great relationship with her sister wives and she wants that. Janelle said without the kids they need to refocus. Janelle is going to laminate the ground rules of communication. Meri says to the other adults they tend to start something and not finish it, and she proposes they continue it.

Christine tells Kody she wants to move back to Utah. Kody tells Christine he found four homes that shared a backyard he wanted to put an offer on in St. George, UT a month before he made the presentation to the wives to move out of Las Vegas. Kody tells Christine he thought the four wives didn’t want to go back to Utah for the sake of the children’s social safety. Christine feels Utah has changed. Christine in a STH said the law in Utah hadn’t changed yet when Kody presented St. George and, she was afraid because of the law. Christine said the wives all said they missed Utah; Utah is home when they went to look at wedding venues for Mariah. Kody in a STH said he doesn’t want to move again; he doesn’t want to leave Flagstaff. Christine said they all have family in Utah. Christine’s dad, mom, sister, Aspyn, Mykelti, Paedon are all in Utah, and Mariah and Audrey are moving there. Christine in a STH said her dad is sick, she wants to spend time with him. Christine wants to live with like minded people again. Christine said they could sell Coyote Pass and move in a few years. Kody in a STH said he doesn’t think anyone in the family will want to move to Utah. Christine tells Kody she doesn’t think the others want to move. Kody laughs and says he wants Christine to present this to the other wives and make him look better, she can get crucified for saying let’s move. Kody tells Christine St. George is as far north as he wants to go, and neither Janelle nor Meri see value in St. George. Robyn’s has family in St. George so Kody thinks she might have a chance with her, but Robyn did make Kody promise they would never move again. Christine in a STH said she thinks Kody is entertaining the thought, and she thinks she could sway him. Kody said it is what he wants, but refuses to entertain the idea, feels it’s not possible. Kody tells Christine he feels he sacrificed so much moving to Flagstaff because for four years he had planned to move to St. George. Christine in a STH said she’ll talk to the wives face to face, not over video chat.

End of the first hour of the finale I will write up part two tomorrow.

I think a lot of that credit does go to Christine since she was the SAHM/homeschooling mom for years while Kody and Janelle were busy trying to bring in money.

Some of Robyn’s parenting has seemed odd lately. Or rather...things she chooses to say on the show, like, “I’m so glad none of my kids are dating” and “she’s sweet 16 and has actually never been kissed.”

I get where she’s coming from, but it doesn’t seem like the type of thing that most kids would want their mom sharing on television.

S15 E10 Polygamy Hell Part 2 (Hour two of the two-hour finale)

STH- Solo talking head

Kody and Solomon (8) collect garbage to take to the landfill. Solomon enjoys helping film. Kody in a STH said Solomon isn’t that expressive, so he doesn’t know how the isolation is affecting him. The adults all express concern about the toll of isolation on the kids during the pandemic. Kody in a STH expresses his frustration with some wives not following his COVID protocols, and the toll it is taking on him.

Kody goes to Christine’s and meets with Christine and Ysabel outside because Christine and kids have been traveling recently. Christine in a STH said she knows Kody wants her to stay home, but she has other kids she is going to visit. Kody in a STH said he feels like a loser no one wants to be around when Christine chooses to travel instead of following his covid protocol and see him regularly. Christine tells Kody it took six months to get insurance for Ysabel’s scoliosis surgery. Ysabel x rays in January 2020 showed a curve over 50 degrees, and they got the x-rays because of increased back pain. The tentative surgery date is September 2020 in New Jersey. They will stay with Christine’s sister. They will arrive in NJ on a Monday, surgery on Wednesday or Thursday and stay ten days after surgery. Kody suggests they delay the surgery six months because of the pandemic. Christine said no, not with Ysabel’s current pain level. Kody is concerned New York is the hotspot for COVID at this time, and its proximity to NJ. Kody said they are safe in AZ, Christine says AZ is now a hotspot. Christine in a STH said she knows getting a surgery during the pandemic isn’t ideal, but Ysabel is in a lot of pain, and she can’t wait. Christine tells Kody Ysabel is in constant pain, she knows there is a pandemic, but the pain is more urgent. Christine said she’ll ask hospital about their COVID cases. Kody says traveling is a risk for exposure. Kody said he will not travel for the surgery, Christine thought he would come for part of it. Kody in a STH doesn’t understand why they can’t delay the surgery, and said they’ve been struggling with Ysabel’s scoliosis for five years. Kody is frustrated Christine isn’t worried about contracting or spreading the virus. Christine tells Kody the surgery can’t be put off because of the pain. Christine in a STH said Ysabel is living at an 8/9 out of 10 on a pain scale. Christine said the only time she’s experienced that level of pain is during natural childbirth.

Kody asks does it hurt them to wait six months. (Personal observation, the pain, the turmoil on Ysabel’s face breaks my heart). Ysabel tells Kody she thinks the pain will continue to get worse so why delay the surgery. Ysabel said they don’t know if the pandemic will get worse it could get worse. Christine said it is nine months since Ysabel said she couldn’t take it anymore. Kody in a STH said let COVID pass so they can travel together; he needs to be there. Kody doesn’t understand why they can’t wait. Christine tells Kody she doesn’t think it is a selfish move. Kody said he doesn’t have a problem with the surgery, he has a problem with putting everyone at risk by traveling for the surgery during the pandemic. Kody said he won’t travel with them if the surgery is in September. Christine tells Kody she’s trying to do what is right for Ysabel, and Kody said he understands, and they have to do what is right for the whole family, not just Ysabel. Kody said they can pretend there is no pandemic, and Christine said she’s not pretending. Ysabel said they wouldn’t offer the surgery if they thought it was unsafe.

Kody asks do they send Ysabel by herself for the surgery. Christine in a STH did he really just say that? Kody asks Ysabel if she had to do it by herself with just Wendy (presumably Christine’s sister) taking care or her or wait six months and have her parents go. Christine interrupts it won’t happen (Ysabel going alone). Ysabel responds I don’t know. Christine asks Ysabel what she’s feeling. Ysabel starts to cry and says she’s not going to get surgery by herself. Christine said 100% she will not, Christine will go with her, going by herself is not an option, she wouldn’t do that ever. Christine wants Ysabel to have the surgery as soon as possible. Kody in a STH said he shouldn’t have said it. He said he is having a difficult time knowing what Ysabel needs because of the loudness of Christine’s emotional needs she’s been expressing during the pandemic. He said he needs to separate Christine from Ysabel in the decision about the surgery. Kody said it is because he feels bad, he can’t go. Through tears Ysabel said they could wait, it won’t get worse, unless it does. She asks Kody how long he wants her to wait. She asks through tears if she is needed for the conversation and goes inside. Kody in a STH said he was supposed to be there for the surgery so Ysabel could lean on him. He said he and Christine aren’t getting along, and he sees it as an opportunity for Christine to do it without him. Christine tells Kody it a medical procedure not a vacation, and it can’t be postponed. Kody says he ok, he has to go, set the appointment. Christine in a STH said she doesn’t understand how Kody can not know how much pain Ysabel endures. She said if he was around more maybe he would see it. Kody in a STH doesn’t want Ysabel to have guilt, he loves her and wants the best for her.

Kody in a STH said polygamy is complicated. He said COVID is causing problems for his family. He said it will just be a few more weeks, why won’t the wives stay home so he can be home. Janelle in a STH said she is traveling to help Maddie with Evie’s surgery. Evie has FATCO, missing several bones. One of Evie’s legs is six or seven inches shorter than the other, and she’ll need surgery so she can get a prosthetic for walking. Janelle asks Kody if he would like to come with her, and he said it’s not happening. Janelle looks at the calendar and says most of July is out for them. The boys are traveling, plus her travel and quarantine, he’ll have to stay away a month, maybe two. Kody in a STH said he won’t pick a fight with Janelle he knows she’s going, but he wishes she wasn’t. Janelle tells Kody she misses their flow. Janelle tells Kody she needs him to tell her he loves her, will miss her, and they’ll be ok. Kody does, and he says they’ve done harder. Kody in a STH said he has cynical dark days, the struggles of plural marriage make him think it is a waste of time, the experiment is a failure. He wonders how long the family can survive.

The adults meet at Coyote Pass so Christine can propose the idea of moving back to Utah. Janelle is taking a class about plants, has three days of plant walks coming up. Christine tells the adults she wants to move back to Utah now that the law has changed; they’ve had the property for two years and haven’t done anything with it. Kody asks Christine because they haven’t developed the property yet there is no destiny in them being there? Christine said nothing has happened in two years. Christine said if she was alone, just her, she’d be back in Utah already. Meri asks Christine just because the law has changed you think you will be accepted? You can do and say whatever you feel without repercussions? Christine said they’ll get it wherever they live, Ysabel has gotten a lot of crap in school because of her parents. Janelle in a STH said that has not been Gabriel or Savannah’s experience. Robyn said she’d love to live in Utah and has to think about the long-term effects on Sol and Ari. Robyn said she’d be concern for them. Robyn in a STH said she wishes she could move to Utah, worries the law could change again, and make it worse than before. Janelle tells the crowd there is nothing for her in Utah. Janelle said her children aren’t there, acknowledges Christine’s are. Janelle said this is the dream she had while living in Wyoming. Janelle said her gut reaction to the idea of giving up Coyote Pass is anger. Janelle said she doesn’t feel a calling to move back to Utah. Janelle in a STH said no social rules have changes in Utah, they will still face stigma, the kids will be persecuted in school. Janelle thinks Christine wants to move to Utah because her kids live there.

Meri in a STH said there is a big difference between owning a business and providing a home for her mother and living in Utah. Meri said she will not live in Utah; they were kicked out; she will stay out. Kody said the kids love Flagstaff, it is the most likely place adult kids will move back to, and they pricewise can’t replace the property in Utah. Christine in a STH is surprised, feels Kody is acting like he hasn’t heard about this idea before. Kody in a STH said he is always blamed for everything, and it is one more double standard of plural marriage. Kody said kids, fights, career change, everything is his fault. Kody is worried the wives will think he put Christine up to the conversation, but said she owns the idea, and finally it is not his fault. Janelle asks Christine if she could settle and be on the property, or it is too much to answer? Christine said it is too much. Christine feels moving to Utah is the next logical step. Meri asks Christine if she is considering going to Utah regardless of what the family does? Christine said she doesn’t know. Janelle asks Christine is there a way they can honor her feelings while still moving forward with developing the property. Christine says they aren’t moving, are they, and cries.

Kody asks Christine if she thought everyone else would feel the same way about moving back to Utah. Christine nods yes. Christine in a STH said she doesn’t know why Kody isn’t being supportive. Christine said they all said Utah and the mountains were home, family is there, she thought they felt the same way. Robyn said it is home, but it’s not friendly. Kody in a STH wonders why Christine didn’t enthusiastically pitch the idea to the wives. He feels she didn’t even try.

Meri has Christine (just the two of them) come with her to look at the mountains that they heard angels singing when they first saw the property. Christine tells Meri she can’t do marriage with Kody anymore. Meri tells Christine not to talk about it, look at the mountain. Christine tells Meri the mountain isn’t enough. Meri tells Christine to make it enough, she doesn’t get to give up. Christine asks why. Meri said she’s not a quitter. Christine tells Meri she doesn’t want it. Meri asks is Christine hurting. Christine said she is hurting, and Meri said when you’re hurting you can’t be real with your feelings. Meri said it is giving up if you are hurting, and Christine said maybe it’s not giving up. Christine in a STH said she agreed move to Flagstaff, she followed Kody, but it’s been a struggle. Christine is tired of feeling like she doesn’t matter, and not having Kody’s support. She needs a partnership, needs something different. Meri tells Christine she understands things change and hurt and said that doesn’t mean deep down there isn’t something she wants, that she can fight and work for. Meri tells Christine she has to do the hard work, not to give up. Meri in a STH said she made a commitment to Kody, the family, Janelle, Christine and Robyn, to her that is family. Meri tells Christine she (Christine)  didn’t put in nearly 30 years to walk away. Christine and Meri hug. Christine in a STH said she appreciates what Meri said, but the relationship Meri has with Kody isn’t what Christine wants. Christine said the relationship she has with Kody isn’t what she wants either. Then my episode cut off so I missed the very end. The credits were rolling when Christine was talking, so I don’t think I missed much.

If Kody was in pain and needed the surgery, would he put it off for 6 months?  I highly doubt it.

I actually thought Kody was being sensible initially since he was the one to insist on socially distanced family gatherings. Now I see him turning back into the highly controlling, selfish asshole he really is. I mean if his daughter had been pregnant at the start of COVID, would he just expect her to magically keep the baby inside her indefinitely to avoid getting COVID during delivery?

New thought on Kody: maybe one reason he’s so exasperated with his wives not following his covid guidelines is because while he does prefer Robyn in general, he’s not used to being stuck with her constantly. She and her kids all seem very high maintenance, and he probably enjoys going to visit Janelle and Christine occasionally. They are both rather independent and while they would prefer more of Kody’s attention (especially Christine), they may be a different kind of demanding than Robyn is. At their houses there are no little kids bouncing on the furniture all night, no teens needing to be carried to their rooms during a panic attack, etc.

Christine obviously gives him some grief, but the family life at their houses might be more laidback and some his annoyance could be that he’s stuck at the high maintenance house and isn’t getting a break like he normally does.

I wonder if he’s feeling jealous that Janelle is getting to see Madi (who always seemed like his favorite) and he can’t figure out a good way to leave Robyn while he goes and visits.
Kody might not being 100% on board with polygamy, but I don’t think he could handle monogamy either...he’s used to having options and buffers whenever things are rough.
This season is ending before any resolution with covid, but I do wonder if in the last few months Kody finally told Robyn he was done with social distancing from his other wives and kids and she could either get on board with that or he’d stop coming over to her place. While his older teens may have decided they were fine not seeing Kody, I can see him not being fine with it and being the one to yield just so he could feel important to their lives again.

Well said.  Kody is truly a spoiled man-child who wants what he wants, when he wants it, in exactly the way he wants it, and everyone around him should be honored and thrilled to make so.  He spouted a flawed and suspect religious doctrine to get what he wanted, and for years he got pretty much that.

Kody used to get off on telling anyone and everyone he had three, then four wives who jealously guarded their time with him and catered to his every whim.  He had a slew of kids that gathered around pouring out love and hoping for some in return.  You can't convince me that he didn't enjoy every moment he saw one person glaring at the other person he was giving attention to.  That was back in the early days.

The show changed all that.  The religion thing is trotted out now and again, but the money and attention from the show is much more important now.  Over time, Kody's slowing down, and frantically playing for the cameras as he pretends to be all things to all people isn't fun anymore.  He's narrowed his focus on Robyn and her children.  She is the newest wife, younger than the others, and she's got her older kids well-trained to cater to Kody and provide him with the feeling that he's the Dad in shining armor who took up the mantle of providing for them and saving them from their birth father.  You know the guy, he's the one who stole their mom's cookie, or ate it, or something.  Surely they're much better off with him out of the picture.  Mom says so.  The younger kids don't feel the same way because Kody didn't rescue them from a sub-par father, he IS their father.  And they're a handful.

What little emotional energy Kody had for his first wives, and the kids from those other women has had to be pared down to deal with Robyn and the kids she birthed, especially the young Prince and Princess.

The only thing Kody needs from Meri, Janelle, and Christine (and their kids) is to live their lives as Stepford extras in his life.  He wants them to follow the rules he lays out.  Be available for filming any time he needs them.  Never question him.  Never bring any negative emotion around him.  Just gaze at him adoringly and read his mind to provide whatever he wants from them, and do it perfectly.  Provide him sanctuary when life with Robyn and spawn gets to be too much.  If he shows up suddenly, everyone is to drop what they are doing and radiate extreme pleasure in his presence.  If he announces he's tired everyone is to be quiet while he takes a nap.  If he wants to play Daddy, the kids are supposed to happily let him do so while making it clear that he's just the best daddy ever.  Otherwise, don't bother him.

That's not happening, though.  Meri's pretending she wants to rekindle their relationship, probably because of the money.  Janelle is the same.  Christine still wishes she could feel some love from him, and it's not happening.  She's slowly realizing Kody probably never loved her, and it hurts.  It appears that most of the older kids have already realized that Kody's affection was never very strong, and they're distancing themselves to varying degrees.

The TV show was based on a man and his four wives and their combined 18 children, all bravely living an unconventional lifestyle with the difficulties, bias, hostility, even persecution it presents, but still foraging ahead with strength and love.  It's obvious now that this plural lifestyle isn't now and never has been all they presented it to be, and it's getting worse.  But they've spent so much time living on screen, they don't want it to end.  Their best bet is to admit it's all a mess that they don't want to deal with anymore, and see if they can angle a new show about a former polygamous family trying to break apart with as much respect and kind feelings among the adults as possible.  Doing the best for the kids is a whole other show.

It was hugely telling when I realized he didn't want Ysabel to have the surgery only because he couldn't be there (to be the hero).  And was willing for his daughter to live in pain for 6 more months because of his ego.

I agree on being with Robyn all that time is draining him.

And I think he's jealous that Meri has been back and forth as needed to Utah.  That Janelle was planning a trip to see Madi (and has kids that are in an out) and that Christine is traveling to see her older kids.  So everyone is getting treated to I can't have my way and do what I want temper tantrums.

And Christine was delusional if she (really) thought that everyone would agree to move back to Utah (however I honestly feel like some of that was staged and we were treated to fake crying)

Fudge Kody.

True: she’s had scoliosis for years and she’s been able to tolerate the pain since.

True: there’s a pandemic and it’s a sucky time to need a surgery.

Also true: Her body is growing and changing.  She can no longer tolerate the pain and needs surgery.

Parents do whatever is needed to keep their kids from pain like this.  If Kody doesn’t want the increased risk of flying, he can drive all night and day, pack food, sleep in his car.

Do whatever it takes for your child suffering from serious scoliosis pain.  It’s not like she’s asking to go to Spring Break or getting a tummy tuck—she’s desperately needing surgery—at a hospital that takes every Covid precaution possible.  If the actual medical professionals say they can do this surgery safely, who is Kody Brown to say otherwise?

My son needed surgery on his arm in December.  We are in CA. Our Covid numbers were horrendous.  Our doctors knew that.  They understand Covid better than I ever will.  They said my son needed the surgery—so that was that.

Also, the hospital Covid protocol was impeccable.  I’m sure the Brown’s hospital in NY would have been equally careful.

Kody was just being Kody—selfish, arrogant, and stubborn.

Kody never ceases to amaze me. He is so full of himself, and quite dim. He built up a fantasy based on Mormon fundamentalist scripture, without realising his own limitations. Time and again, he has shown that he can't handle the situation, especially not with Christine.

Whatever she says, I'll go on record to say that she might be happier in a monogamous situation, with a partner who truly appreciates her. And yes, I am fully aware that they have to keep this up to reach the highest level of heaven. But if this is heaven for eternity...?

Kody is a run-of-the-mill narcisist.

It was hugely telling when I realized he didn't want Ysabel to have the surgery only because he couldn't be there (to be the hero).  And was willing for his daughter to live in pain for 6 more months because of his ego.

Kody didn't seem concerned Ysabel could contract COVID and having surgery be in a compromised position. Kody was only concerned he could contract COVID ... oh and spread it to other family members (Robyn).

And Christine was delusional if she (really) thought that everyone would agree to move back to Utah (however I honestly feel like some of that was staged and we were treated to fake crying)

When Christine discussed suggesting the family move to Utah with Kody she said she knew the other wives wouldn't want to. She may not have been sure about Kody's reaction because it seems like it depends on which way the wind is blowing that day, but she knew the other wives wouldn't want to. I was frustrated with Kody when he in a STH said she didn't even try to sell the idea. Seriously Kody? Kody said he wanted Christine to present the idea so she would get the grief, the blame, and that didn't happen because Christine got emotional. Is Kody upset Christine wasn't crucified? I thought the wives already knew what the conversation was going to entail because Robyn's face didn't seem surprised, and Meri had questions that to me sounded thought out (about the kids being accepted, about the adults being able to speak and act freely).

I looked on Christine’s Instagram and she, Ysabel and Truly did travel to NJ in September. I’m glad. The poor girl was in so much pain and she’s in her last year of high school so best to have the surgery now. Kody was a selfish dick. Wonder if he would’ve had the same reaction if she were one of Robyn’s kids?

Christine has changed her hair color and lost weight.  She looks really good, though stressed.

Good point.  If it were one of Robyn’s kids, Kody would have purchased 4 RV’s and hauled the entire family out for the surgery.

My uncle just died from COVID. He wasn’t that much older than I am, so I kind of grew up with him. Just ten days ago my mom had been pleading with him to get vaccinated, but he wanted to wait to make sure the shots were really safe. I’m kind of devastated.

I just found out my little bonus kid is in a treatment center on a suicide watch tonight. He and I share a hobby and a couple weeks back he opened up to me that he's severely depressed and was wanting to hurt himself. I let his parents know and thankfully he had also been talking to them. I'm just heartbroken because him being in this center means that his parents had to call 911 and have him admitted and I know that was so hard for them to do. He's a young kid and has his whole life ahead of him but just wants to end it all and I don't know how to help him.

Middle aged woman with mommy issues...but missing her today.
She got so much wrong with me, but she had the best intentions and tried so hard.
She got so much right, too.  I forget that sometimes.  Sometimes I remember and dismiss it out of spite.
“They did the best they could with the tools they had.”  I forgot where I first heard that but I’ve carried it with me like a mantra since my parents passed.   They truly did.  Whatever else was missing, whatever I needed that they couldn’t give, the love was always there.

      Always.
      That’s something.
My confidence in my own abilities.  Faith in my own power.  My own strength.  They gave me that, too.
      That’s also something.
They’re why I’m messed up, but they’re also why I’m okay.

      Shit’s complicated.
She died before I figured out how smart she really was.  Sad thing is I don’t think ever figured that out for herself.
Ignore me - just crying in my car waiting to pick up my son.

The nice thing about posting about Jewish history is how quickly it flushes out the antisemites. 😘
