Tbf when it comes to music he's not the first young person to take a shot and not make it...most fail.  Can't fault him for trying.

I don't know. I have my doubts, as the Philippines can strict about residency when someone is not there for legit reasons (my first adoption was supposed to be from there). They were claiming last month that he was still there. He may very well be. I just find a few things about it all fishy. Why do all the photos of him with the girl show him with the same shirt, same hair, and same stubble? Why do none of them show any interaction? If he's there, what is he doing besides taking pics and apparently performing at the hospital? It's not as though he has any skills with negotiations like that or language skills. 

Kelly Jo has claimed he emptied his bank account and the whole family has been donating. That's wonderful. Something just doesn't sit right with me. Kelly Jo has often been wrong in terms of science and basic government facts. Maybe it is just that and I'm suspicious or getting cranky. I'm not doubting that there is a girl in need or any of that. I'm just saying it appears he may have chosen to play things up a bit yet isn't doing any of the normal things to draw attention to the cause. 

The family is in People or In Touch about once a month regarding the latest baby news. Why not pitch them a story about this? If he's given up (put on hold) his dreams and aspirations because he was so determined, then there is a story there. There is a photo essay in In Touch, but it reads more like a dating ad for Nathan and Lawson.

These are excellent points. And we all know that Lawson loves pouting for the camera.  And US citizens have to get a visa for a stay in the Philippines longer than 30 days.:

This was the issue I ran into when trying to adopt. Some countries require that the adoptive parent (one or both) live in the country for longer than other countries. Vietnam (at that time) required 90 days to live there while finishing paperwork. The US cut off adoptions with Vietnam so that was settled without me, but it was going to be a huge hardship. To stay months in a country where you don't know anyone, can't work, and don't know the language well is a big challenge. 

I worked with the agency I was going through to find countries with less strict rules. The Philippines had rules that contradicted. I was supposed to stay 60 days but could only stay 30 legally. I was also supposed to have and keep a job during this time. I could take FMLA time, but I was trying to reserve that for when I actually got my daughter rather than before.

I should have commented more on how much I dislike his current hairstyle. I could have gotten some mileage out of that. Or I could have brought up that apparently he traveled all that way for all that time and only brought black t-shirts. He did manage to shave for this pic and does appear to have his hand on the girl's shoulder.

Maybe he’s visiting a neighboring country and then returning to the Philippines for another 30 days? There are some countries that allow that to get around visa regulations.

Of course it is! My son is  out doing tree service work with a nationwide company today. To earn a decent living for a young man with no desire for college, he needed longjohns, thermal shirt, heavy hoodie, Carthart winter jacket, insulated boots, super-thick socks over thin socks, and a hat just to show up. Playing singer/celebrity is way easier! I don't understand why victims sacrificial virgins haven't been found yet for Lawson and Nathan. Or are they still saving up for a house? Where they live it isn't that expensive to find a foreclosure.

I really hope Lawson has permission from the child’s caregivers or family and the hospital to share all of her medical information in such great detail. So many of his posts feel like exploitation of this medically frail, cute child. It makes me very uneasy.

Even though HIPAA wouldn't apply because he is not a medical professional and not in the United States, there are a lot of ethical issues here. He exploits her because he likes attention on social media. He plasters her medical information on Instagram. Even if her parent or guardian says it's okay, she is a minor who doesn't need to have her medical information displayed in such detail. There is no reason why Lawson couldn't give a general statement that her numbers have changed to the point of not meeting the criteria and that a procedure will be performed to help her get her numbers within the criteria needed to have the operation. 

Just like @Seculardaisy , I am very uneasy about what is going on here. Will he do the same thing when she gets the main surgery in the US? Legally, there's nothing stopping him, but has he considered how this can be problematic?*

My church sponsors a ministry in the Philippines to provide housing and stuff for girls to go to school. It is great to have updates, but they share the girls' birthdays with ages, their report cards and awards indicating the school they go to, and selfies with these girls during mission trips. I'm wary about sharing photos of kids without permission of the parents on my personal page and on my church's page

*I know it is a stupid question to ask since critical thinking may not be at play here.

UIt also isn’t clear to me whether the fundraising is paying for the procedure she’s about to undergo or is somebody else funding that- if so they should be credited. I only ask as I it seems the doctor is from the UK ( no doubt trained by our ‘evil socialist’ NHS!) and many doctors I know here do work for Medecins sans Frontieres and have fundraisers for them.

i agree re the medical update - he has basically disclosed her medical notes and made it sound like he’s involved. I also wonder what happens after her surgery- does she return to the life of poverty - is anything being done to help the situation of these children?

I mean, its great that a little girl who really needs help is getting the medical care she needs, but it all seems so expoitative and just screams white saviour complex. Would Lawson do the same for a child in America?

Also what visa would Lawson have to have to be able to stay longer in the Phillipines?

I agree it’s just so bizarre how he could have any role whatsoever in her care. I think of the money he must be spending on food, lodging, travel, etc. that could be better used elsewhere.

He’s openly asking for a girlfriend now. I find the caption amusing from anyone else, but it seems strange to me that he’s been unable to meet anyone in fundy land. Then again, no marketable skills to actually support a family (I like what he did when he was younger...).
