No good ending here: Idaho mom dead, other kids missing

The date for the combined trial is now set for July 12, 2021.

Time flies, y'all. Lori has been in custody since February.

Also, Arizona authorities are looking more closely into the death of Lori's third husband, Joe Ryan. The coroner ruled his death to be from natural causes (heart attack), but he had been dead for a week or more before he was found and there was no obvious reason at the time to suspect otherwise. He was cremated.

I doubt they will ever file charges against Lori for the death of Joseph Ryan (even though it seems highly probable she had something to do with it), because he was cremated, and also because I think the police treated it as a natural death from the start and may not have treated the scene like a crime scene.

I think she will eventually be convicted of the charges currently against her but her attorney is paving the way for grounds to appeal based on incompetent defense.  Chad's attorney is competent and I wonder if he's trying to convince Chad to work out a plea bargain by testifying against Lori.

Yes, I'd guess he was murdered by Lori and Alex, working in collusion.  It's not surprising that both Alex and Joseph Ryan were cremated, presumably at Lori's direction.

As noted in one of the news outlet postings, police reviewing the case does not mean that they are re-opening the case.

The Investigation Discovery channel is going to have a 3-hour documentary on the Daybell case tomorrow night (Sunday), Dec. 20.

The Doomsday documentary was interesting. It was told mostly from the perspective of JJ's grandparents.

It seems every show I've watched about this refers to the timespan between Tammy Daybell's death and Chad's marriage to Lori as "several weeks" or "weeks." It was 17 days! I wish they would just say something like... "17 days after his wife's mysterious death, Chad married Lori in Hawaii."

I don't think this is a 3-hour documentary, or else my DVR is confused.  I didn't learn much new.  However, I didn't realize that Lori's nephew Zac lived with Laurie and Charles for a period of time. He recounted some odd happenings relative to Lori.

What's so sad is that she seemed like a great mom and wife until she became a Chad follower.

I hope Lori and Chad die in prison.   Are they still devoted and loyal to each other or will one turn on the other?  Stay tuned!

Also, I had not realized that Brandon Boudreaux had remarried and came to Rexburg with his new wife to identify JJ's body so Kay and Larry Woodcock (JJ's grandparents) did not have to.

The entire documentary is really Kay and Larry's story.  Their anguish is sometimes hard to watch, but they are really quite extraordinary people.

Based on the end notes, I'm unclear if Lori will have one trial next month (Jan 2021) and then will be tried jointly with Chad this summer, or if the latter is her only trial.

Still no word on Tammy's autopsy results.

@HowlI was just thinking about the exact same things you were. The only new to me info was Zac and the behaviors he witnessed. And Brandon.....seems like a stand up kinda guy. It takes a special kind of person to volunteer to take on the task of ID'ing a childs body. He has my respect.

I was also questioning the time frame of the trials. Guess we will have to wait and see. Maybe she is facing some charges Chad is not and they are trying her on those charges separately, then will try her with Chad of the latest charges? I dunno.

My dvr recorded 3 separate one-hour episodes, presented back-to-back.

I'm guessing mine didn't record correctly.  It seemed like it recorded the same episode twice and perhaps left one out.

That said, did they cover Alex Cox's wife, who married him just before his death?  Her son was the person who found Alex's body and thought that Alex was his mother's boyfriend; he had no idea they were married.

No mention of Alex's new wife or stepson

How does one autopsy report (Tammy's) take so long? I wonder what all kinds of poisons and such they tested for? Are all 5 of Chad's kids still defending him or at least publicly on his side? If Chad was stupid enough to bury the kids, or have them buried, in his back yard how could he be smart enough to stump medical examiners? How did Chad and Lori get so lucky for Alex to just up and die of "natural causes?"  Without him alive the kids' actual murders can be totally blamed on him even if Alex didn't commit them.

I'd have to guess that Chad's lawyer or their lawyer(s) told them to disappear from social media on the topic of their dad, Lori, JJ, Tylee.

I can't even imagine the family conversations after the bodies were found or even when Tammy died and Chad married Lori a few weeks later.

I've watched enough murder porn to also note that families can be further shattered when siblings are divided on whether the surviving parent is guilty of murder or unfairly accused.

I truly hope there is no estrangement between the kids and their maternal grandparents.

Tammy Daybell's autopsy is complete. (Link to Eastern Idaho News) Unfortunately, that's about all we know. They aren't releasing the results yet.

Quote

The autopsy for Tammy Daybell is finished and has been turned over to the Fremont County Sheriff’s Office.

Investigators received the autopsy report from the Utah Medical Examiner Wednesday, according to a news release from Sheriff Len Humphries.

“The contents of this report will not be made public at this time as it is evidence in an open and ongoing investigation,” Humphries says. “We will release additional information as it becomes available.”

I guess it's better if authorities focus on doing their jobs well, rather than releasing information to look good in the media, but I wish we knew more.

Me too! I check in on the topic on East Idaho News website every month or so and try to read at least the first 10 or 20 comments about each article.   Some noted that if the autopsy showed that Tammy died a natural death, that information would have been released, but who knows.

East Idaho News has an archive with links to all of their LorCh-related articles (even the recent ones) here

I checked the subreddit for any new developments. In a conversation with Lori's sister and Alex Cox's wife, Rob Wood (the prosecutor) said he plans to file murder conspiracy changes on both Chad and Lori. Someone on reddit was saying he's most likely waiting for all the autopsies to be finished before filing charges, and he's still probably waiting on Tylee's.

@WiseGirl, thanks for the heads-up. I watched it and though I can't say I learned any noticeable new thing, I do appreciate seeing the differences in layout and approach of the whole situation by each of the productions.

I've seen Lori's mom interviewed on other shows but this time I caught something she said. I may have heard it before but wasn't paying attention. In reference to Alex Cox's funeral/memorial service, their mom said, "We didn't invite anyone to his service who believed he was a murderer, so it was a very small, precious group of us who loved him."

Sounds like basically everyone other than a few immediate family members DO believe he was a murderer. Even then, how many of the small, precious group who loved him secretly thought or wondered if he had murdered?

Another update from reddit, there was a hearing yesterday for a motion to compel discovery. The judge, prosecutor Wood, and defense attorneys Prior and Means went into a private breakout room, and when they returned the judge said the recording of their conversation would be sealed and that he was vacating today's hearing as well as the hearing later in the month which was for the motions to dismiss and change of venue. The same reddit user from earlier speculated that the most likely reason for this was that Wood expressed the state's intent to dismiss the current charges and bring in new ones for murder, rendering these hearings irrelevant.

So it's possible we'll see murder charges soon.

Listened to the Mommy Doomsday podcast recently during several of my daily walks. Then, because I'm a glutton for punishment true crime, I watched the Dateline NBC show yesterday. They have slightly different information & interviews so it's not completely repetitive.

My main question: who is running the Chad & Lori show -- Chad or Lori? One interviewee in the podcast described their relationship as Chad being the hand and Lori being the puppet. In viewing the various video clips in the Dateline broadcast, that seems plausible when you watch their body language. OTOH, a lot of the case information centers around Lori and her late brother, Alex, who seemed to be committing a lot crimes at her behest. Chad and Lori will be tried together in the upcoming ID proceedings, but I wonder if either one will turn state's evidence against the other or if they'll go down together if convicted, never providing any information about their crimes.

Trial of Lori Vallow, Chad Daybell pushed back | ktvb.com

Defense attorneys asked for trial to be pushed back to the fall. And the judge says his calendar is rapidly filling up, so who knows when it will happen.

That trial will probably never happen. Murder conspiracy charges will be brought up before then. I think Mark Means (Lori's lawyer) is upset because he knows as soon as that happens he's off the case.
