Ugh - Branch Trumpvidians are at work in Iowa

Quote

Wednesday’s Vinton Library Board meeting took place at the Vinton City Hall to accommodate the more than 100 people who attended.

During the meeting, 12 people spoke, and 9-others submitted comments in favor or against the reasons former Library Director Renee Greenlee resigned.

“This community has now run out two highly qualified highly credentialed library directors in one year,” said one of the speakers. “This library is indeed going to suffer but not because of diverse books or staff members that identify as LGBTQ+.”

Most of the dozen people who spoke supported the former director, Greenlee. Lauding her credentials, and leadership, and voicing frustration about people who criticized the library’s display of LGBTQ+ books.

Now this

Quote

The FBI in Newark, New Jersey, said Thursday afternoon it has received “credible information of a broad threat to synagogues” in the state, according to a tweet from the office.

“We ask at this time that you take all security precautions to protect your community and facility. We will share more information as soon as we can. Stay alert. In case of emergency call police,” the post said.

In a second tweet, the agency said it was taking a “proactive measure” with that warning, while “investigative processes are carried out.”

New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy said he is in touch with the FBI, the state’s Office of Homeland Security and Preparedness and the state attorney general.

Looks like they found the basement dwelling sack of shit who made threats against New Jersey synagogues

Quote

The man who posted a broad online threat against synagogues in New Jersey has been identified and was not planning to carry out a specific plot, a law enforcement official said Friday, relieving Jewish communities already unnerved amid an increasing climate of antisemitism and related violence.

The man, whose identity was not immediately released, was questioned by law enforcement and told agents he had been bullied in the past and harbored anger toward Jewish people, the official said.

Investigators do not believe the man had the means or motive to carry out any specific attack, according to the official, who could not discuss details publicly and spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity.

The source of the threat “no longer poses a danger to the community,” the FBI in Newark tweeted.

Instead of taking money out of athletic salaries and programs at Iowa there's this bullshit

Quote

Iowa taxpayers will pay $2 million to help the University of Iowa athletic department settle a lawsuit brought by former football players who alleged racial discrimination existed in coach Kirk Ferentz’s program, a state board decided in a vote Monday.

The state’s Appeal Board voted 2-1 to approve the use of taxpayer funds for half of the $4.175 million settlement over the objection of State Auditor Rob Sand, a board member who said athletic director Gary Barta should be fired for a series of lawsuits ending in settlements under his watch.

“I can’t imagine a private company that would still have someone at the helm after four discrimination lawsuits under that person’s leadership,” Sand said at a news conference before the vote. “The athletic department, they’ve got the funds for it. The broadcast deal brings tens of millions of dollars every year going forward. I don’t know why they can’t cover their own mistakes and pay for their own mistakes instead of having taxpayer’s do it.”

The lawsuit filed in November 2020 involved former players including former star running back Akrum Wadley and career receptions leader Kevonte Martin-Manley. They alleged they were demeaned with racial slurs, forced to abandon Black hairstyles, fashion and culture to fit the “Iowa Way” promoted by Ferentz, and retaliated against for speaking out.

Parler looks to be on its last legs

Quote

The digital media conglomerate Starboard said Friday it purchased the conservative social media site Parler and will temporarily take down the app as it undergoes a "strategic assessment."

"No reasonable person believes that a Twitter clone just for conservatives is a viable business any more," Starboard said in a news release Friday announcing the acquisition.

The deal came months after another acquisition agreement with rapper Kanye West, legally known as Ye, collapsed in November.

Right wing trump humpers think they want an echo chamber but they don’t. They love getting angry and caps lock typing at anyone they deem woke. It’s the only time in their day when they feel excited and energized. Echo chambers don’t give you that same feeling.

Two churches in Decorah, Iowa were targeted by homophobic attacks

Quote

Two churches in Decorah are doubling down on their messages of inclusion after being hit by vandalism over the weekend. Some of the graffiti on and around the church buildings was homophobic and came on the heels of a Pride celebration in the city.

Every year, Decorah Congregational United Church of Christ puts out rainbow doors for the festivities.

“Our thing is extravagant welcome,” said Kristin Propson with Decorah UCC.

The rainbow doors were vandalized with the message “God hates gays.” Several other parts of Decorah UCC, a few spots at the neighboring Decorah Lutheran Church, and a wall across the street from the two churches were all vandalized.

The congregations did their part to remove the graffiti right away and keep the hateful scum who did this thing from having any sort of victory.
