Maxwell 34: Vest Management While Climbing a 14er

No anger towards Sarah here.  I've been a SAHD and live-in servant and I've been an overworked out-on-her-own single (and now married) woman.  I'd rather be overworked by a corporation any day, and I hate being overworked by a corporation.  At least my private life is mine.  At least my company isn't individual humans that can work me as much as they want and pay me nothing for it, answering to no one.

that sentence made me genuinely angry.

Yeah, me too.

The smugness. :puke-front:

But then I remembered that Sarah is also the woman (girl!!! :pb_wink:) behind another sentence that has stuck with me:

"Imagine that, siblings who love each other!"

As if that doesn't happen outside Leavenworth?

THE SMUGNESS!

(Thinking of my heathen American / socialist Swedish / liberal Church of Sweden / totally-free-to-chose-whatever-as-long-as-they-stay-decent-and-loving-human-beings 15-year old daughter and 12-year old son laughing like crazy together before bed last night.)

And as my Saint Lucia Day gift to you all, I'm just gonna leave another gem from the authoress herself here:

"This was Tina and under’s first time to fly!"

Happy Holidays, crew!

Sarah is attractive, and on this trip to the Messiah, would look very appealing to any GYM- sorry, G Middle aged M.You can see her figure and accentuated waist - she looks lovely. Shame on you Steve for not letting her escape!20191213_112751.jpg.6ba148d198ff3efe572e781654d61a37.jpg

They are exasperating with their mundane existence.

It makes me anxious to think of their lives and see that absolutely nothing ever, ever changes and nothing ever, ever happens and no one ever, ever learns/grows/develops.

The Maxwell's picture is the only definition of stagnant in the dictionary.

I would never let my child go with the Maxwells to learn about "sin, consequences, and the devil." What freaks. Stay away from my kid with your brain-washing lies. Gross.

Yeah, I thought that non-frumptastic tunic looked great on her, and I'm surprised Steve allowed it.  I suspected Chelsy's influence.

So much dann snark in the Random Life post...Amish Anna, enough with the matching frumpers!  They are really showcasing Calia and Kyle in this post, gotta prove that Smug Joe and Invisible Melissa haven't left the cult.  What kind of sentence is this-"December is flying by, and Christmas is less than two weeks ago".  Four generation picture?  Where is Smug Joe he should be in that pic with his daughter, mommy, and grandma not the aunts.  Ellie and Arnold are still my favorite Maxwells.  Sister time with Goofy Anna and Scary Mary, course Poor Sarah left out the fact they went to a parade BY THEMSELVES.  Nice Wonder Woman Melanie got to see her family over Thanksgiving didn't have to spend it in Maxwell.  Can't they handle tortilla making without Abby and Betsy?  Poor Sarah give your neighbors some credit for the wood.  And fuck you for this..."We’ve grown up in Christian homes, and we know very well the Christmas story–the heart of Christmas–but these sweet kids didn’t".

So I've read here that Steve also reads here. IE the changes we see to some of the grammatical crimes perpetrated on the M Blogs. Sooooo, if he does, do any of our discussions encourage (see what I did there?) him to actually think about the our discussions as hmmmmmm, maybe I need to think about getting my daughters out into the world in a non-religious way a little bit?

Or, and I think it's very likely, any criticisms from the the Forum probably feed into his sense of holy persecution. You know, Blessed are the persecuted.... Steve knows Everything about godliness and godly behaviour. The more we criticize, question his beliefs, the sweeter it is to him.  Besides, most of us are just women anyway. So in his book, it's just noise. Amiright here?

Sometimes i feel a bit gossipy laying it out on the Maxwells. Would I say what I say to their faces? Yes, because they advertise themselves as the holiest of holies. Publicly. So they open themselves up to it.

I dont care what Teri and Steve do, but the daughters. What has been done to them is so sad--not Rod or Nog sad--that borders on criminal in my mind. I hope none of the grandchildren posess any natural curiosity about the World as it will be squashed toute suite, and, more sadness. And, the eldest grandaughter is sporting the vests too now!

But , after this long post, I'll let you in on a big secret. My headship told me that if I was so convicted, I could read Steve's Corners before he did. Yes, it's true.  And, he allows me wear any type of denim skirt I want as long as my ankles are covered. He says I can pick any colours of buttons for my shirts that I want too. I am so blessed with my Delight!

When Steve does the family  patriarch will be Nathan and I will be damned if Anna or Mary aren’t married off within two years simply because he does not want to Be saddled with Two spinster sisters  to support the rest of their lives. Sarah is a lost cause and will be used to be an assistant chief cook , bottle washer, housekeeper  and unpaid childcare.  I don’t think Nathan will let her go.

It is more likely to be Christopher.

I have always assumed Steve keeps the thermostat very low in the winter. Everyone is dressed warm and using blankets in the winter months inside Steve and Teri’s home. You never see them bundled up in anyone else’s home in the winter months.

And I just want to say that I’m pleased to see a small turnout on thanksgiving for the Maxwell’s. It means that Elissa, Chelsy, and Melanie aren’t completely ignoring their families in favor of the Maxwell’s. We know Chelsy and John were actually less than a mile away and still didn’t attend the Max Borg on thanksgiving. Because Chelsy was hosting her family at her house. That kind of blows me away actually.

I actually wondered if they did something as a big group that week with the Bonts and did showcase it because Steve is so weird about .... everything. It seems odd - at least it would in my family - for one son to host his inlaws without a full family gathering.

Our thanksgiving was entirely vegan and freaking delicious. Christmas will be too. Healthy? Eh. But laden with vegetables, the likes of which the maxwells have probably never seen ?

This caption might be quite inspiring if it were from, say, The Long Winter  by Laura Ingalls Wilder; but it’s not. It is from a twenty first century blog written by a financially comfortable suburban family. And I just can’t with this:

I highly doubt the family woke up each morning, fearful of freezing to death while they stared at their last six potatoes, hoping for some firewood to appear at their door.

And then!

Spoiler

I remembered they had chopped a tree down on Thanksgiving and wondered why they didn’t use that wood. ?

I’m guessing that “ago” instead of “away” is only a typo rather than a typical Sarah Maxwell Sentence Fail, but someone should’ve proofread that post!!

Arnold and Ellie continue to be my favourites! Deborah is a cute little kid. She reminds me of Tina, too.

To be fair, if the chopped tree had died only recently, the wood is still too green to burn without risk of creosote buildup in the chimney. Creosote is highly flammable and a chimney fire could burn the whole house down. They would be smart to save the chopped tree for next winter.

But Sweet Rufus on a Ricecake, Sarah!  YOUR NEIGHBORS provided the firewood, not God. God has better things to do than provide you with unnecessary luxury items.  Did He provide this morning’s mocha for you, too?  Assclown, just like your father.

Good point about the wood. I actually wondered if it was something like that. It just came across as very ironic to me. The timing was odd without an explanation. The Maxwells are certainly not lazy, so it is interesting that they were low on firewood and didn’t go chop some or pick some up in John’s truck.

"It’s sweet to see the grandkids playing with toys we did when we were little."

"..playing with the same toys we did..."  perhaps?

"Nathan and Melanie’s family was very excited to fly out of state to visit Melanie’s sister for Thanksgiving. This was Tina and under’s first time to fly!" This was who's first time to fly??

"Anna babysat for Nathan and Melanie to have some time away"  Great--but who got the "time away"?

"Babies were scarce this year for the cast, but Nathan, Melanie, and Deborah volunteered." Would that be because most people don't want babies exposed to everything on earth during flu season? Or are other parents not sufficiently righteous to hear their baby say he wants to volunteer?

@usmcmom,  The Long Winter is my favorite of Laura Ingalls Wilder's books.  Wasn't the winter so harsh and so long that they had to resort to making twists of straw to burn?  Didn't the ink freeze in Ma's pen?  I do remember clearly that they had to rig up a rope from the house to the barn so that people would not get lost in the blizzards.  I also remember them making pies out of unripe pumpkins.

The winters of 1887 and 1888 were very severe ones on the plains.  Apparently, one winter was more severe north of the Platte and one was worse for those south of the Platte.  James Michener's novel Centennial has a good chapter about the winter south of the Platte.  Bison knew to swing the heads from side-to-side to uncover grass, but the cattle did not and so starved and froze to death.

I thought God was too busy helping Gwen over at Remnant choose her outfit every day to be sending mocha over to Sarah!

Oh I love that book so much. Until we moved to Tennessee, I read it once a year. I pulled it out during the first Midwest snowstorm each year and sat by the window, reading while the blizzard hit. I guess it brought it all home a little better, but it also made me so grateful for our warm house and pantry full of food. We don’t get snow down here; so I haven’t thought about it much since we moved.

Yes, they twisted straw into “logs” and burned them. They also used a coffee grinder to grind the wheat for bread each day. Pa thought that green pumpkin pie was apple and asked Ma where she found apples that time of year (I think).
