I just had a random thought. Does anyone know why we never hear about baptisms? I can't remember ever seeing anything with the Bates or Duggars regarding this.

Not random at all. I was thinking the exact same thing today. Just had a quick google and found this.

https://www.romper.com/p/do-the-duggars-baptize-their-kids-heres-what-the-famous-familys-religion-believes-in-7843503

'As for the Duggar children, eight of the kids, along with Jim Bob and Grandma Duggar, were re-baptized in 2011 when they went on a family trip to Israel, according to Hollywood Life. However, information on when they were first baptized is not readily available. '

According to Jill's website she was baptized by Jim Bob when she was 12.

In regards to why we never hear about them it sounds like kids are only baptised when they accept jesus as their saviour so probably not until they are older. Mackynzie will probably be baptized soon. 'However, as Got Questions — a site dedicated to answering questions about the bible — Independent Baptists, often also known as Independent Fundamental Baptists "reject infant baptism and sprinkling" and "baptism is only appropriate after someone comes to faith in Jesus." '

In makes sense that it would be JimBob to baptize them as he is the spiritual head of the family. I could almost get behind the idea of the kids being baptized when older and can choose....if there were actually a real choice involved but I don't think there is.

My pool has an Olympic pool and a smaller one used for lessons. One time when I went to do laps on a Sunday- the 4 foot kid lesson pool  was closed off and being used for baptisms. If one of the houses on the compound has a pool, they could use that...similar to the way Bill did his family on HBO Big Love.?

@Exposedknees I just re-watched Big Love recently. That is true and hilarious.

One of them totally needs to pitch this to JB. Baptism is a perfect excuse for a pool and then they wont have to make home made slip-n-slides with dish soap in the dirt on hot days.

I think Jessa got lucky with Ben too because he lets her be how she wants to be not what he wants her to be, it could also have to do with how YOUNG Ben was when they married and how much younger he is than Jessa, that and her domineering personality and his laid back chill one mean she's in charge.

Nothing ”lucky” about it. I am three years older then Mr Way, a bit domineering myself and he was only 21 when we met and I can tell you that the best way to get the husband you want is to start training them young ... :kitty-wink:

To be clear he probably says the same about me. :laughing-rofl:

Wait, they do have a pool somewhere on the property don't they. Didn't poor Grandma Duggar drown in a pool? Was the pool at her house which is on the compound.

They have a pool. Grandma Mary drowned in it. I hope it will not be used for baptisms because that would be awful.

I think the pool house was sold or is up for sale.

The pool house is a separate property, around the corner from the TTH. As previously noted, it's been on the market for several months, with a fairly recent price reduction.

I’m guessing they only do “believers baptism” if at all. There’s been a few baby dedications though.

Jim Bob baptising them in Israel is part of the episode/s of their trip there. It's in the River Jordan I think, and he possibly baptises Amy as well.

Episode 8 of Counting On had a lot going on and still managed to not be very interesting. We did learn that Josiah and Lauren are doing an alphabetical naming theme, though.

Jana's Garden Party

Spoiler

Jana is having a girl's only garden party. Laura DeMaise is helping her set up. It's raining and they're worried about the rain stopping in time. Jana wanted to have this party before Jessa gives birth. They end up setting up the food and arbor (which some of the howlers build that day) inside. Everyone shows up dressed in floral dresses. Laura jokes that they should have had spicy food to help Jessa go into labor. Jessa says she has a wedding she wants to go to before having the baby. Anna has a TH about how she's 13 weeks and has been having morning sickness, but is excited for baby #6. The rain stops and the sun comes out. There's a bunch of flowers and mason jars set up so each woman can make her own flower arrangement.

Kendra is 4 months along and was hoping the morning sickness wouldn't be as bad this go around. It's still the same as last and she's much more emotional, also. She cries very easily. Lauren is 3.5 months and has had very bad morning sickness. She says it's slowly going away, but still there. Joy's also 3.5 months and this pregnancy has been very easy for her. Grandma Mary is there, but she's very quiet.

Ben & Jessa's 5 year proposal anniversary

Spoiler

The Seewalds are going to Eureka Springs to re-visit the places Ben & Jessa went during Ben's proposal to her. First stop is Basin Street Park. Jessa had to go up to 12 strangers to get 12 roses from each of them back then. Jessa thought it was really awkward and Ben jokes that he should have had her sing karoke to get the next clue, instead. They go into a bakery and get a snack. Jessa hasn't really had any cravings, just food aversions (chicken & coffee). She says she gained about the same amount of weight as with Spurgeon, so she's "on the chunky side."

They go on a train ride, next. The boys are really excited to go on the train. Henry isn't as cautious as Spurgeon and they need to keep more of an eye on him. Jessa says Henry will have a hard time adjusting to the new baby, since he still doesn't completely understand what's going on and he doesn't know how to be gentle. Spurgeon has a better understanding and asks a lot of questions. Spurgeon thinks the baby will be a boy and that they should have him Spurgeon (lol).

Lastly, they arrive at Thorncrown Chapel. They revisit the scene from 5 years ago. Ben gets down on one knee and asks her to stay married to him forever. Jessa laughs and says,  "of course." They sit in the chapel and think about everything that's changed in the past 5 years

Babygeddon Prep

Spoiler

Kendra & Jessa are going to the park together. Kendra gets Garrett ready and uses some water to smooth down his hair. This pregnancy has been a bit harder than the last, since she can't rest as often as with the first one. Garrett is 11 months old and is almost walking. Kendra relates a lot to Jessa since they both had 2 children very close in age. Kendra gives Garrett to Jessa while she runs to the car to get him a snack. Jessa is watching all 3 kids by herself and says Henry needs the most supervision. Henry eats a potato chip off the ground and Jessa runs over to stop him. She says it's gross, but he won't die.

All of the pregnant women get together and have a maternity clothing swap. Jana adds ruching to several of the shirts. Lauren says ruching is good for turning a regular shirt into a maternity shirt since accentuates your belly instead of making you look fat. Joy says one of the things she enjoys about pregnancy is not having to worry about sucking in all of the time. Michelle says it's surreal to see all of her daughters and daughters-in-love (bleh) having kids. Jessa isn't worried about having this baby early, since she went late for her last two pregnancys. They discuss the photo shoot and what they're going to wear.

Lauren's Gender Sex Reveal

Spoiler

Lauren & Josiah are going to have an ultrasound. It's too early to find out the sex, but they'll be able to hear the heartbeat. Lauren says they never got to see Asa, since shed miscarried at 5.5-6 weeks. She has a lot anxiety whenever she goes to the doctor and the early part of the pregnancy was very hard. She spotted during the first month and had very low progesterone levels. She took progesterone and was worried she was gonna have another miscarriage. Josiah has helped her by reminding her that it's not her baby, but God's baby and to trust in the Lord.

Lauren has modesty cover while she's getting her ultrasound. They listen to the heartbeat and Lauren says she could listen to the sound all day. Everything looks good and they decided to get a blood test to find out the baby's sex.

They're having the party at Lauren's parent's house. Lily is excited to help set up. Josiah thinks they're having a girl and Lauren thinks they're having a boy. They have several balloons filled with confetti. All of the balloons have white confetti except for one. The pop all of the balloons and it seems very...awkward. One of the balloons flies away. They're popping the balloons and they're all white. Lily actually hid a giant balloon in the house as a prank. She brings it out and pink confetti comes out.

Lana (Lauren's mom) is jumping up and down and very excited. Josiah and Lauren are doing an alphabetical theme (y'all guessed right!) and they had two names picked out. They announce the baby will be named Bella Milagro. They say the name means 'beautiful miracle' in Spanish.

(Side note: Lauren got a lot of hate for the name Bella being so close to Annabelle, but they announced the name pretty early on. Expecting them to change the name later on doesn't make much sense to me.)

Jessa Goes Into Labor

Both Jessa's family and midwife are out of town (the Duggars are at Carlin's wedding) when her water broke two weeks before her due date. Jill was the only sister in town, so she came over. She gives Jessa some castor oil and Jessa mixes it up in a strawberry smoothie. Michelle & Jana are flying back in a little plane to try and make it before the birth

Next week: Jessa gives birth, Jinger get highlights, the pregnancy photo shoot, Grandma Mary passes away & the funeral.

It seems like next week could be the season finale, since it’s the funeral and that was the last thing they showed on the trailer. did they mention anything about that?

Why did Josiah tell Lauren it's God's baby? God's baby or not, they are still the parents so technically it is their baby. Some of their beliefs really puzzle me sometimes.

According to Google there are two more episodes. Jessa's birth and Addison's sex reveal next week and then the funeral and photoshoot the week after

Majority of Christians believe that while children are 'yours', they are a gift from God. They belong to God, and He has put you in charge of raising them and teaching them right and wrong. So when Lauren is anxious about miscarrying, Josiah is reminding her that ultimately, their child belongs to God, and He will do what's right for the child (whether it's continue the pregnancy or take the child home to heaven).

Besides the fact that you should just never take castor oil for labor, I still don't understand why Jessa felt like she had to drink it if she was already in labor?? I thought most people use it to induce labor not after they are already actively in it.

She said her and Jill decided she should take some 4 hours after her water broke because she wasn't having any contractions.

So Lauren got Bella' s name before Joy got Annabell's name, surprising but no snark anymore on that! I wonder what they'll do for a C...Callie /Callum maybe. Is it too soon to put in a guess? :D

Eek, making decisions with Jill about your labor...you'd think even Jessa would have more sense than that.

I'm all for low-intervention births as the parents choose and based on sound medical advice. But it's so typical for people who aren't pro-science to act like pitocin and castor oil are basically the same thing.

My understanding is that castor oil can cause contractions to start because it causes so much gastrointestinal distress that that stress can trigger uterine contractions. Meanwhile you're throwing up or dealing with diarrhea. Dehydrating yourself is not a key for successful labor in my book.

I think it is along the same lines of why they used to give women enemas when they were in labor, clean them out so they don't shit while pushing. The diarrhea only lasts for a couple hours tops, then calms down. Thankfully they had stopped this practice LONG before I ever gave birth. The

I love baseball but I'm dreading the new season because the White Sox ownership is THE FUCKING WORST. I watched Dominican League Baseball (Lidom!) over the winter and fell in love with their joy, spirit, and exuberance. The broadcasts were in Spanish and my Spanish is pretty weak but I loved catching phrases and repeating them. Bombe! I'm sad about MLB and Commissioner Idiota's busywork rules. But I love baseball, always and forever.
I guess I don't have a point. Just bitching. Te amo mucho, Lidom!

Feeling ragey this morning. I have a doctor's appointment this afternoon in the hope of getting help for an ongoing injury. I went to a (different!!) doctor late last year who completely blew me off. He wouldn't do diagnostic testin, he refused to send me to a specialist, and he just told me to "take it easy" and "take ibuprofen." I'm hopeful for today's appointment but I'm also feeling a SEVERE amount of rage at that doctor from last year!

Well, the rash is back with a vengeance. It never completely cleared up. I saw the derm yesterday and they did another swab and yup, raging infection again, still? It is definitely strep skin infection. I am getting so damn tired and run down from this. Who the f would immagine being hospitalized freaking TWICE for a rash?

My niece is going to be a seat filler at this year's Academy Awards.  Seat fillers are asked to wear tuxedos regardless of sex/gender.  If you see a pretty young woman with very curly hair, it could be my niece.
