Albert also ended up getting leukemia while trying to get in med school. Or was he already in med school??

Already in med school....then he lost his virginity to Michelle (was that even a name back in the late 1800s?) who was played by Melora Hardin...before she became Jan of the breast implants who made Michael sleep on the ottoman in the Office.

Not to go all purity culture on anyone, but back in the day when you couldn't just stop by the Oleson's store for some birth control, she seemed pretty relaxed about doing something that could result in pregnancy with a guy who is about to die.

That show went off the rails in the end. Maybe it was never on the rails, though. It's been a really long time since I've seen it.

The pilot was pretty true to the book series.  After that it was Michael Landon's world.

Every astronaut is taught a high level of proficiency in Russian.  (I assume vice versa for the cosmonauts?) Astronauts also have to have a whole list of skills (this list comes from the Canadian Space Agency website):

  • History of space flight
  • Fundamentals of space flight
  • Space operations and procedures
  • International Space Station systems
  • Life science
  • Materials and fluid science
  • Earth observation
  • Space science
  • Robotics
  • Human behaviour and performance
  • Flight training
  • Parachute jumps
  • Physical training
  • First aid and CPR
  • Operation of photographic equipment
  • Survival training

Astronauts must be excellent public speakers, skilled educators and media relations specialists, since they're the public face of NASA/CSA/ESA etc. Astronauts must be competent laboratory scientists and researchers in order to carry out experiments in space and produce accurate results. Astronauts must be able to carry out basic medical procedures as needed. Astronauts must be able to identify and repair problems with the ISS or their vehicles. Obviously, no one's going to be great at everything, but they need to each have specializations and subspecializations.

I only wish the Duggars were being given the education necessary to prepare them for any of this.

I tortured myself a few weeks ago. I read the bios of the new graduating class. 11 astronauts from NASA and 2 from CSA. I felt bad about myself for the whole day. It's crazy what these people have accomplished. Doctors, engineers, chemists, biologists, servicemen, one of them had 3 PhD's!!! Those resumes were longer than the Grapes of Wrath. There's no way Anna could educate a child enough to get them admitted to NASA. 13 people who have dedicated their life to education and science. One guy was a rescue serviceman. I don't remember if it was military or marines but wow he was impressive.

I went to a pretty good school and the smartest person I knew cried when she got 93 on a test once. Found out years later, she became a Grand Master in chess. It's a lot of work. The Duggars don't have that work ethic.

Как интересны!
Fun fact: there’s no “j” or soft “g” sound in Russian. To do that, you have to combine “d” with “zh”. The Duggars would have a ton of fun translating their J names phonetically. Poor Jinger...

Pronoucing Jill in Russian is hard. the zh with the ill sound needs a soft sign at the end. Most Russians wouldn't be able to pronounce it right. The easiest is Jana because Zhanna is a Russian name already.

Feel good about yourself: none of those people could accomplish any of those things if the rest of us weren't holding down forts by doing our work, whatever it be. We are all necessary!

Just that one episode, to my knowledge. You know how they'd bring in some tertiary character for one ep and pretend she'd been integral to the family all along?  That.

But can we call her Zhill (Zheell?) for the hell of it? Zheelly Muffin

Not even Albert’s intense hotness, to my pre-teen mind, could convince me to watch LHotP! My younger sister loved it, so we always had to watch. It was always too cheesy for me. I actually preferred The Waltons for some reason, and I think TW stands up better to the test of time.

My college roommate (1993) LOVED LHotP. She would watch it every day and 2nd semester I swear she scheduled her classes around it. I never got into the series. I read the books when I was a kid (elementary) but that was it.

I never post on anything, instead just lurk, but I’ve been enjoying the LH discussion! I’m a huge American history buff, and I wrote my first research paper in school on LIW. My siblings & I watched the show all. the. time. and we still look back and wonder why we liked it so much because it’s terribly cheesy, historically inaccurate, etc. I always preferred the Waltons, but we had LHotP on DVD instead so we watched it more.

She was also in Season 8’s episode “The Reincarnation of Nellie” (when the Olesons adopt Nancy) as Belinda Stevens, Albert’s girlfriend. So, she played Albert’s gf twice for some reason.

@Jasmar The Waltons was more true to the era it was set it - and not subject to Michael Landon's wild fantasies.

Except in  the episode wherein Youngest Walton girl somehow attracted poltergeists to the Walton House:)

That's right!  I'd forgotten about that!  Why didn't they just use the same name?  Didn't Nancy try to kill her by locking her in the ice house?

Bringing in Nancy was a total shark jump moment for me.

(And I'm glad you're posting - lurking is fun but we need your attention to LHOP detail!)

ITA.  And Jim-Bob as hot as Albert, in a different way.

(Not THAT Jim-Bob!)

Most of my LIW knowledge comes from here! And it’s patchy. I’ve only read Little House on the Prairie and that was ages ago.

The movie and a couple of the first episodes were more from the books, after that not much.

OMG, I remember the poltergeist episode more than the mime.

There is a book out that for the life of me, I can't remember the title of but I think it had Prairie in it. Its the true story of this LH fan who went to all of the historical places and museums. It was a real good read.

Got it! The Wilder Life by Wendy McClure

That sounds similar to The Wilder Life, by Wendie McClure.

Just checked Anna's Instagram (apparently I do that now?) and nothing posted about her sister's wedding reception.  She was there with Josh and at least Maryella.

Going to see Trump get into an airplane made her gram.  As did a new one about date night with Smuggar (gross) on which they are taking the baby which makes it not date night in my world, but whatever.

But nothing of a major family event where they got gussied up to celebrate her sister.

Totally possible that was out of respect to her sister.  Just as likely she didn't want to post pics of Suzanna's gorgeous and very not-fundy-modest gown.
