For how much welcome your new family could be, i think It would still be unconfortable be alone with them so recenti after the wedding. I hope nothing happen but still It Is so incredibly annoying, egoistico and stupid ugh i don't know really Who Is grating more on my he or his (failed) country star brother

I stumbled across a post on facebook from an old coworker talking about how a "dear friend" of hers is collecting veterinary medications because she's going to help in Ukraine with the displaced animals.  I avoided saying anything, but I just wanted to ask why they aren't donating the meds and the cost of a plane ticket to local (European) professionals.  FFS.  I'm a veterinarian and I did disaster relief training while I was in school and I still know I'd be completely useless in a war zone.  No resources used up to save the untrained fools, please.

Also, if Nathan is trying to instruct actual doctors or other medical professionals they'll know he's a fraud very quickly. He won't have the the fundamental knowledge base to give him any credibility and it will show.

Not quite the same thing, but Rolling Stone has an article about two US right-wing nutjobs who showed up in Ukraine to fight, and let's just say they got a rude surprise (note--they disagree on how rude). It does bring up the points that 1) people engaged in this kind of struggle don't have time for your shit, 2) modern war isn't two sides lined up like medieval armies coming over opposite hills, but chaotic, when people (and in the Medic Corps case, even NGOs) are coming in from all over the place and even the people in charge don't necessarily agree on who is in charge, 3) this is the 21st century and people have access to technology that can enable them to vet your background and decide if they want you around, and 4) getting out may be a lot harder than getting in.

Because I am a not very nice person, I want Nathan Bates and his dumbass (if educated) enablers to get a huge smack in the face and get thrown out quickly, because the idea of them sticking around and being convinced they actually did something helpful by "training" ANYONE just makes me fear for the next poor people they will wreak their help on.

When it comes to fundie know-it-alls who impose themselves on people in disaster areas and war zones, I am not going to be very kind.  I see them as not helping people but taking advantage of vulnerable people just all for their egos.

These guys are not qualified.   Even those who might have real training, their need to operate by themselves and to post "look at me helping others" pictures and selfies doesn't reflect well on their motivations and their contributions are up to question.   People who really help don't behave like they do.   They work with legitimate organizations and they sure don't seek attention while doing the work.

Yes!! That may have been the first thing they told us.  If weren't asked to come, don't come.  You need to be in contact with a legitimate organization who knows how to manage professionals in a crisis BEFORE a crisis occurs to be of any assistance, and they will decide if you are needed.  The amount of people who just show up to things hoping to help is staggering and it takes time/people/resources to send them packing.

I am totally ok with people bragging about donating money or needed items to legitimate organisations so other people might also be inspired to help. It would be nicer if they just mentioned in passing which organisations are active in any particular area/situation because they looked into it. But bragging is ok by me. Kinda like “I Voted” stickers.

But for fuck sake with the trauma porn and “Christian Saviour” wet dreams! Don’t know what it is about Nathan Bates in particular and Medic Corps in general that is making me so irate, but every update I read here triggers my anger.

Because using a humanitarian disaster as an excuse for Christian cosplay is horrifying?

But now the UK's PM wants to go to Kyiv.

The Daily Mail's headline: Prime Minister plans trip to Ukraine capital to show support in war with Russia but security chiefs 'are having kittens' over the idea as renewed Russian shelling leaves civilians dead and parts of the city in flames

I am in love with a headline that uses the phrase "having kittens".

Is it known exactly what level of official concern is being expressed when the phase "having kittens" is used?

Same level as “shitting themselves” but printable.

Well, today I saw some Jehovah Witness Disaster trucks down the block from me.  About 10 people and not a tract in sight.  (Note this is 8 months after Hurricane Ida.)

It appears that BoJo failed to secure an invitation from Ukraine for a state visit...in the middle of a war.

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-10638959/Boris-Johnson-desperate-visit-Ukraine-devastation-himself.html

From the article:

Quote

Boris Johnson has not been invited to visit war-ravaged Kyiv, Downing Street revealed today, despite reportedly being 'desperate' to visit the warzone.

No10 told reporters today that the Prime Minister would consider travelling to the besieged city, but no offer has been received from president Volodymyr Zelensky.

It came after Tory chairman Oliver Dowden insisted the PM had a 'real emotional connection' with the suffering of the Ukrainian people and wanted to experience what it is like 'on the ground'.

Maybe he can meet up with Mediccorps and they can pat each other on the back, as fellow war-tourists.

This just doesn't seem to be the best time for a formal state visit to Kiev...

FFS, he could just use these any of these scenarios to develop empathy:

  • have a grenade exploded in his office while he's in it
  • run across a field to retrieve a loaf of bread while army rangers use him for target practice
  • go five days without food, heat, water, medicine
  • order a bomb dropped on #10 Downing St.

Boris could have shown empathy for his own people by not throwing parties while everyone else was on lockdown.

You mean meet up with Medic Corps. The first one is a REAL volunteer organization active since the 70's. And I think that is what pisses most of us off A LOT! Choosing a name so close to another volunteer charity that I think donations could easily be sent to the wrong one. Not by those supporting the Duggar/Bates group tho- they'd know EXACTLY where to send their money.

Is there really an organization called Mediccorps or Medicorps? I can’t find anything about it. I do see a website for International Medical Corps which appears legit, but I’m not actually sure.

Good question - first hit I got was a company in the Netherlands that offers covid tests among other things. Epidemic outbreak control. There's nothing pops up about Medicorps from the 1970's. It may be defunct. There is an international medical corps that pops up.

Yikes! We've misjudged them.....Nah - not going to give them a pass yet. But good catch.

I meant that BoJo and the silly Bates' cosplay organisation could meet up as fellow war tourists, since neither of them have anything to actually offer. The legitimate organisation will probably be too busy doing things like actually helping.

Hearing about fundies Christian cosplaying during disasters (credit to @FiveAcres for this) ticks me off big time.   Just like their behavior in the Bahamas after Hurricane Dorian did.    I really want to see these idiots sent packing or get widespread bad press, which btw any Duggar that is affiliated with this cosplaying crew can't really afford after Joshley.

But, let's be glad for one good thing.   At least Bradrick! is no more though it seemed they never showed up to any disasters that we know of, it was all chest thumping and scary videos.

The article below neatly shows why I cannot abide cosplayers like Nathan Bates and his phony organisation. It's about the experiences of two British volunteers, who signed up for the Ukrainian army, only to find that war is dangerous and they didn't like it.

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-10643503/British-man-21-travels-Ukraine-fight-Russians-returns-ten-days.html

This bit from the article annoyed me a bit more than the rest:

Quote

After deciding he had 'had enough', Dennis boarded a refugee train out of the capital and back to Lviv.

There he stayed the night in a Red Cross tent, and was awoken by the sound of shelling in the city.

So, basically, if he'd stayed home the Red Cross could have helped someone in need, rather than a cosplaying tourist. This is why people like Nathan Bates should just stay home! (Yes, I know I'm preaching to the choir, but I need to rant somewhere.)

Thank goodness for that! Can you imagine what kind of hindrance that lot would have been? *shudder*

Also @FiveAcres Thanks for terming "cosplaying"! That's really what it is.

Now that Braderick! is retired from the disaster porn scene, that ! is awfully lonesome.   I think it should move over to another fake organization dedicated to disaster cosplay to provide more emphasis, a bit of a punch: Medic Corps!

In our own culture, even Christians flee from door-knockers demanding to know your conversion story. (Anybody remember the song where you say the day of the week you were saved?).

Never heard of this, but I'm interested if you wanted to share more!

That's all I can find too, although I sort of remember seeing something before (I'm old and decript, though.) I"m thinking maybe Medicorps is a nickname/shorthand, or at least the Duggars hope that's what people will think their organization is.
