Another gun nut in Texas

Quote

A motorcyclist pulled over Sunday after allegedly pointing his firearm at another driver was in possession of seven firearms, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

The trooper pulled over 65-year-old Richard Wesley Kammerer on I-10 in Guadalupe County around 4:40 p.m. after receiving calls about the alleged incident.

The trooper disarmed Kammerer of his handgun, which was later determined to be stolen, according to a news release from the agency.

While searching his motorcycle, troopers found five additional handguns, a short-barrel rifle with no serial number, three suppressors and “armor-piercing ammunition,” according to the news release.

We have found the solution to school shootings!

There were no school shootings in March. There it is, we close the schools and we have no school shootings!  No need to ban guns, just close the schools. Problem solved.

Now there’s this from Katy, Harris County, Texas.

Quote

Six people, including a 5-year-old girl, were shot on Mother's Day when men from two families in Texas started firing in the culmination of what police believe was an ongoing feud.

All six people suffered non-life threatening injuries and were brought to area hospitals.

Earlier in the night, Sheriff Ed Gonzalez wrote on Twitter that deputies were responding to the scene where "members from two families possibly opened fire on one another" at about 9:15 p.m.

Ambriz later said that preliminary investigation indicates the violence likely stemmed from "an ongoing dispute between two neighbors."

Fucker

Quote

The Oklahoma man arrested for shooting an unarmed woman who tore down a Nazi flag flying in front of his home claims that he “acted in self-defense” when striking the fleeing victim with a hail of bullets from his AR-15 rifle, according to court filings.

In arguing for a reduction of his $500,000 bail, Alexander Feaster, 45, portrayed himself as a “patriotic citizen” and “loyal American” whose political beliefs had subjected him to threats, harassment, and the frequent theft of his flags, which “were associated in the public’s consciousness with the Third Reich and National Socialism.”

Feaster, who was locked up following the June 28 incident, has been charged with assault and battery with a deadly weapon in connection with his shooting of Kyndal McVey, 26.

According to a probable cause affidavit, McVey was at a party across from Feaster’s home when she crossed the street around 2:55 AM and grabbed one of the two swastika flags flying outside the residence. As McVey ran away with one of the flags, Feaster emerged from his home and, without warning, opened fire, striking her several times in the lower abdomen and legs.

It's probably because I'm not American, but... what the bloody hell?

He shot a woman in the back with a weapon of war -- a weapon which sole purpose is to kill. That is MURDER.

Oh, wait. I may have been too hasty in my judgment. Did the woman survive?

It sounds like maybe she did? In any case I'd consider it attempted murder.

Some states have hold-your-ground laws to protect your "family and property" where you can legally kill somebody, but I really don't think shooting someone in the back with no warning counts. I'm sure that's what the guy is going to try for, though.

Also - if you're a "loyal American" or "patriotic" in any way, you should not be flying the battle flag of an enemy. IMO that goes for confederate flags and for nazi flags. That seems like a no brainer to me. The US fought against the Nazis. Therefore it's not patriotic to fly a nazi flag. Duh.

People are so incredibly stupid. I can't even.

NRA has filed for bankruptcy.

Quote

The National Rifle Association of America, the nation's foremost gun lobby, has filed for voluntary bankruptcy, according court documents filed Friday in the Northern District of Texas.

The group plans to leave New York State, where it was founded in 1871, and reincorporate as a Texas nonprofit in a move it is calling "Project Freedom," according to a statement published Friday.

The Chapter 11 announcement follows leadership shakeups and allegations of financial mismanagement at the NRA in recent years.

New York Attorney General Letitia James filed a lawsuit in August accusing the NRA's senior leadership of violating laws governing nonprofit groups and using millions of dollars from the organization's reserves for personal use and tax fraud.

Donnie the dumb fuck did something similar when he tried to move his "charity" out of New York.  The state made the business keep operating in New York until they could dismantle it.

I could get behind this. Also mandatory third party personal insurance on all owned firearms, premiums could be reduced by storing them and ammunition appropriate and would of course be proportional to the prospective injury potential of the firearm.

I follow a Nick Carmody, a lawyer with an MS in psychology, on twitter.  He posted this last week on twitter and  Patreon:  Analyzing the sociopathic game the Right plays with the gun issue

He uses Ted Cruz's response to the Colorado grocery store massacre as an example (and identifies him a narcissist/sociopath). Watch for this pattern playing out in the future.  I highly recommend reading the full article, but here's the summary:

Quote

When Cruz engaged in performative victimhood about "not apologizing for praying", he was dismissing his and the rest of the Republican party's complicit inaction on the gun issue, and was attempting to define the public reaction to hollow "thoughts and prayers" as an attack, rather than a reasonable reaction.  This manipulates the timeline, and attempts to make Cruz, the Republicans, and anyone who prays as the victims.......it dismisses the actual victims (those murdered, and their families)........and then attempts to demonize those who are disgusted and fed up with gun-related mass murder.

Too damn close to home. At Least 3 Dead In Shooting Near Austin Shopping Plaza

On Sunday mornings I ride my bike (~3 miles) over to grocery shop at Trader Joe's during geezer hour (8-9 am). This shooting happened about 1 pm at an apartment complex a block away from that Trader Joe's.

Police & emergency vehicles are staging by Starbucks and Trader Joe's.

Apparently this is a "domestic" situation, but everyone is advised to shelter in place, because the shooter is still at large

Glad to be out of town this weekend!

Update @ 3:18 pm: the shooter has been identified as a 41-yr-old male, previously worked in law enforcement (former Travis County detective), still armed and at large. They don't know if he's on foot or in a car and are worried that he could potentially take a hostage.

What got me about clicking through and reading replies were the people arguing about whether the shootings were 1. real, 2. qualified as "mass", and 3. could have been stopped by a 'good guy with a gun.

Any shooting here where someone is injured (and sometimes even if no one was - if shots were fired into a shop at night for example) gets news coverage because it is rare. The idea that people wouldn't have heard of a mass shooting occurring in their town "because there are so many shootings" is really distressing.

Monday: The shooter was found walking along a highway, and arrested this morning "without incident."

A local school has confirmed that two of the dead were current and past students; and one shares the last name of the shooter.  My concern is that this guy murdered his children and possibly their mother.

Cue the "not a mass shooting, just a domestic" replies on Twitter. Also cue the "he's a good guy, who was having some issues" news responses from friends/family/neighbours and then the revealed history of family violence.

Actually, he's African American, but he IS ex LEO (Travis County detective).

One article noted that a year or so ago, he was charged with sexual assault of a child and lost his job.

Color me surprised. That’ll teach me not to make assumptions.

Although he’s a horrible shit of a person and he deserves to be shut in prison and the key thrown away, I’m glad he wasn’t summarily executed without a trial just because of the shade of skin he was born with.

I read more details about the shooter in this mornings paper and it reads like so many other instances where a  husband murders the wife. The wife was in the process of divorcing the shooter.  She sought a restraining order a year ago because Broderick was dangerous, they were terrified of him  (objectively so) + in the process of getting a restraining order she noted that Broderick had  sexually assaulted an underage (no info on exact age) member of her family.

Broderick spent 15 days in jail last summer on that charge and then posted bail.  He was released with restrictions and a GPS monitor.  However, in November, Brodericks's lawyer argued that Broderick had worn his ankle monitor for 142 days with no significant violations and requested that it be removed and the judge complied.  So, from that time on until the shooting, Broderick was essentially unmonitored.

On the day of the shooting, Broderick went to the apartment complex for "a scheduled custody visit" which led me to say to myself "WTAF?"  How is this guy getting any type of visitation with his teenaged daughter when he's out on bond for sexually assaulting a a minor child AND he's earlier had a restraining order?

It's not known how he acquired a gun.  There was a younger son at the scene of the shooting, but he was not harmed (he'd hidden somewhere), and is now an orphan of sorts.

By all accounts both murdered kids were standouts both academically and athletically.  Eighteen-year-old Willie Simmons (friend? boyfriend?) was set to graduate this spring and had a football scholarship to North Texas State Univ.  The daughter was in an Early College program when she attended the same school as Simmons and was a stand-out athlete in at least one high school sport.

Just a small window into a tragedy that plays out over and over in this country.

Fucked up angry men who want to share their anger by killing other people.  So sad.
