John just posted that Nehemiah is seizing again. Hope he’s ok and that they get actual medical attention before they start praying this time. ?... or you know before posting it on Facebook.

Time to get your son and pregnant wife on a plane to the US and do an extensive hospital workup on his seizures!

Johnny got a luxury private hospital on tha Cayman Islands, now do the bare minimum for your kid! (that means not a quick once over by a tertiary clinic nurse...)

At least get him checked out at a major hospital in Lusaka.

Lusaka.

Nah, I've been to Lusaka... we brought our own needles and stuff just in case.

They wash out needles with soap water and reuse them on the next patient. Mind you some regions in Zambia have 50% HIV rates.

(I think the official number was 18% in general at the time but they always try to downplay it)

There were posters in the streets telling people to "be in a monogamous relationship or abstain" to prevent HIV. No mention of condoms. Christianity (98% Catholic as FJers know) did tremendous damage there.

I just read about Nehemiah having seizures. I hope he is alright. I just can't get over the fact that John and Esther have a "pray first get medical help second" mentality.

I take a few days off looking at Shrader's Facebook and all hell breaks loose for poor Nehemiah.  Multiple seizures in a very short time-frame is not good.

10 minutes ago, Gobsmacked said:

Has John updated about Nehemiah's health?

For those blocked by Shrader, here's the latest update.  @Gobsmacked, you posted as I was typing.  :)

Short version:  Nehemiah has had several more seizures but been taken into Lusaka for testing and an MRI.  Apparently the doctors have ruled out a traumatic brain injury, a tumor, disease, or infection.  The main neurologist is out of country at the moment.  They have another appt. for December 20 for an EEG.  Shrader has apparently got hold of a "couple of doses" of unspecified prescription medication to give him "if" he has another seizure.

I'd want the kid to have an EEG a lot sooner than 4.5 weeks myself.  Time to send Esther and Nehemiah home for more testing, a proper work-up in the US, and possibly get him put on anti-seizure meds for a while.  Especially as they are so far from Lusaka.

That is In my non-medical opinion, of course.   However, I was apparently a lot more worried about my last epi-hound (who had tonic-clonic seizures as frequently as Nehemiah until we put him on meds) than John seems to be about his actual child who may have idiopathic epilepsy.

You can't pray away seizures, John.  This is serious business.

Update on Nehemiah's Health
(at least what we were able to rule out)

Dear friends, thank you very very much for your continued prayers. I apologize for not updating right away, Esther, Nehemiah and I finally got back to our home in Kafue last night, all exhausted, having spent the day in the Capitol, and saw a Pediatrician there, Dr. Ghada. She seemed very capable and we did a full range of blood and urine tests, plus an MRI with Contrast. This was all very taxing on our boy, and all the needles and fasting and tests, and finally working very hard to be still for the MRI brain scan, was very overwhelming for him. I was allowed to be in with him and was able to play godly music from my phone and sing and talk to him to help him through it. It was about a 45 minute ordeal, a long time! He was overcome for a bit afterwards, but the Lord's Grace was sufficient and after some AppleMax and discussion of a nice lunch to come he was encouraged and got his wonderful smile back.

They actually sent the MRI images to India to be read, and we will be going back for an EEG for a very reputable Doctor on the 20th of December that the Pediatrician has confidence in (He is currently out of the country). We are praising the Lord that there are no masses or tumors, and all the tests came back just fine. That is a blessing.

We still don't have any real answers, which seems to be "par for the course" when it comes to seizures. More than 50% to as high as 75% never seem to find the cause. We were able get a couple doses of medication prescribed by Dr. Ghada that someone suggested, that we can administer if he has another seizure.

The Lord had allowed us to meet Will and Emily Sims last June, a couple that are Chick-Fil-A owner/operators from the States, and they just "so hap" to be back in Lusaka when we requested prayer, so they contacted us and kindly came by to pray with us together with another missionary (from another part of Zambia) at the Hospital before we started all the tests.

We thank God for His Love and Care, and we are so grateful and thank each one of you who have so kindly showed us that love, and showered us with encouragement and prayer.

We truly cannot thank you enough. If the Lord reminds you or lays us on your hearts, we would be grateful for continued prayer. I would also appreciate your prayers for grace and strength to minister tomorrow as well, and for Esther and the baby. We are trusting and resting in the knowledge that our God is in control, no matter what. His Way is perfect.

Bro. John and Esther Shrader

It's probably not a good idea for Nehemiah to fly at the moment. John's parents should fly across ASAP though. Esther is going to need lots of help. An ill child, new baby due soon and big old baby John to look after? Poor Esther needs help NOW. If they can't travel over then at least help Ma Keller with expenses so she can go. Pa Keller needs his head examined for allowing Esther to marry Johnboy.

Rant over.

The above post was from November 16th.  Just getting up to date on Johnny's FB posts.  I omitted a couple of plugs for "Godly" music and a link to a very off-key choir.

From November 14th.  I'm not sure when he made these posts public.

Thank you for praying for our Nehemiah (12 years old) and his issue of seizures dear friends. Your outpouring of love and prayers mean so much more to us than you could ever know.

Tomorrow, Lord willing, we will go to another hospital in the Capitol City of Lusaka to meet with a pediatrician and see if maybe we need to do a brain scan with a CT or MRI to check for anything like a brain tumor or mass. Not expecting the worst, just trying to do our due diligence and eliminate as much as possible, if possible.

We are resting in God's Will, whatever that may be, and trusting His Heart, no matter what comes. Thank you again from the depths of our hearts for your intercession and care. Truly, you have shown our family the Love of God.

John for Esther and the Family

Just trying to do his "due diligence," eh.  Humph.

From November 13th.

(Update: He has finally come out of it and is now resting, exhausted. He did respond to us, praise the Lord. We will take him to the Capitol again Friday and try a different hospital. We may get a CT or MRI. Thank you so much for your prayer support, we are asking for your continued prayers for God's Wisdom)

Nehemiah is seizing again...

Please pray dear friends

So perhaps two seizures in rapid succession.  It's not clear. :(

Earlier in the day it rained.  Praise the LORD.

Quote

First major rain!

We were blessed today by our first major rain of the rainy season here. It really helped cool things off some, and we are praying for a good season for the country, for their main crop and staple food of maize.

These are pics from this morning as I drove to our church plot to meet with some men for a day of Bible Teaching and Instruction.

Boring pictures.

But on November 11 John tells us that he would have joined the military if he had not been called to preach!  Oh, pull the other one, Johnny.  And, quite honestly, I doubt you would have passed the physical with the bad back you have been walking around with for thirty years.

Quote

My Great-Grandfather Rice (who had several ships shot out from under him in WWI), Grandfather Muirhead (a Purple Heart recipient in WWII), my Grandmother's husband "Grandpa Bill" (who was helping man a machine gun at Pearl Harbor), Esther's Grandfather Stembridge (the Korean war) and my Uncle Don Shrader (he served in Vietnam) have all served our country, as well as some of my dear friends. I very likely would have enlisted had the Lord not called me to preach. We thank and honor our Veterans for their sacrifice on this day of remembrance. - js

(One amazing point of interest is that all of my relatives survived their respective wars, and with the exception of Great-Granddady Rice, all are still living, and Esther's Grandfather as well!)

And on November 10th Boyd came to church.  No, Boyd, run!

I haven't done a headcount of the video but it looks like <60 in the congregation, including Shraderlings.  Does he mean that 6 families = 60 people.  That seems unlikely.

Quote

First Shrader Special (as a Trio), Fantastic to see Families, and Finishing Galatians

It has been so encouraging to see entire families attending lately! We had six families at our services today, two have the husbands that are unsaved, another that we have been praying about for years, and two brand new families that I recently posted about! Even with some regulars out, we had over 60 today from what I counted in the video! This is so thrilling and exciting for us!!

We have labored here in Kafue for over five years, and it has been a long, slow, up and down work, but it is evident that God is working in hearts!

Thanks for praying for Boyd, he was there last Thursday as well as our church prayer meeting last night, and was there again today, and sincerely thanked us for praying for him today, so those of you who are seriously praying for him, please continue dear friends.

God gave me great liberty and help in the teaching and preaching today, both physically and spiritually! I finished our expository preaching of the Book of Galatians today, and what a Book it has been, and what powerful way the book concludes! The title of the message was "Glorying in the Cross, No Matter the Cost" and wow, what is packed into those final 8 verses!

I want to thank those that are praying for me, I could really see God answering!

I teased you a while back about an exciting phone call, I'll be able to share more later this week!

Our precious children Enoch (16), Alatheia (15), and Timothy (14) played their first combined special today. They are all at beginning levels on their instruments, but are working hard at them, and desired to praise the Lord on the stringed (and melodica) instruments today! We sure love these precious kids, and they fill our hearts with joy to see how much they love the Lord, love God's Word, love each other, love their parents, and love the Zambian peoples! We don't mind their mistakes, for we love and encourage their hearts to praise and glorify the Lord!

To God be the Glory!

The Shrader Family
Zambia

Enoch, Alatheia and Timothy played a special at church.  John is right.  Those teenagers really are at beginner level with their instruments.  Not to be mean but I've heard a lot better from preteens.  They obviously don't have good teachers.  Surprise, surprise.

You have been warned.

I haven’t been following the Shrader’s for long so maybe this has been covered before. Nehemiah’s having seizures and we’re to pray for him & some have posted about Esther having a history of delivery complications but it’s ok because prayer. So what’s the deal with John? Why doesn’t he just pray away the back pain and see specialists in Lusaka? Why was it ok for him to receive special medical treatment but he refuses to provide the same for the people he (in his world) is supposed to protect?

Fuck off John. Stop the nonsense. Concentrate on your son. Oh! Sorry forgot. Five years ago you didn't seem to care if One of your kids ( precious blessings) died in Africa for your mixed up ego. You are a plonker of the worst type. Folk on FJ read the Posionwood bible and realised what you meant. You don't deserve to be a father. You are a selfish narccasist. Look it up John. Genius Daddy is quite probably the same.

You blocked me and others from your Facebook for disagreeing with because you are a coward of the worst type. You have a son with real medical problems. Stop bloviating/ being a plonker, grow up, be a proper father.

Don't take to your bed after reading this. REAL MEN look after their offspring.

I've been following the Shraders pretty closely since Burundi and have been back and read the first Shrader thread too.

Esther "having a history of delivery complications" is something of a myth.  As I said earlier in this thread, John seems unconcerned about her most of the time because it is all about him.  We only know what he tells us.

We do know that Esther has gone way past her due date about 3 times and had a long labor with Sophia.  John mentioned that because he was suffering terribly with backache, and started a juice diet at the same time.  He complained that Esther was in labor and not around to look after him.

Caleb went way past his due date (we all got very concerned) and John mentioned that the delivery was "hard."   Possibly Esther can't count because the "late" babies don't seem exceptionally large and all seem healthy.

Both Esther and John are pretty woo woo over health.  John has long been suspicious of conventional medicine and was recommending woo woo stuff to his sister, Sarah, when she had terminal cancer.  Her prognosis was dire from the beginning so it probably did no harm.

Also in 2011ish Esther famously decided that "dehydration from the light radiation (from Japan) attaching to the electrolytes in my body" caused her either to go into premature labor or stalled her labor.  I forget which it was or which baby!

The Shraders rely on PRAYER, colloidal silver, and essential oils most of the time.  But then they haven't seemed to have any serious illnesses until recently.  A miracle when you think about it.

However, John had a wake-up call with his back problems, IMO, and has a new found respect for Doctors and Therapists these days.  So long as they are Godly.  I love how he now uses Capital Letters for Doctor and Therapist!

So at least Shrader is taking Nehemiah to hospitals for testing and is not only praying for him.

John is quoting John Bunyan in his last public post.  “Pray often, for prayer is a shield to the soul, a sacrifice to God, and a scourge for Satan.”

Yeah, yeah.  But doctors and prescription meds are good if you or anyone else in the family are sick. Johnny.

That music was painful Reminds me of some awful recitals I have sat through. I'm kind of surprised he didn't start having them learn to play when they were small. A family band is a very John sort of thing.

He's used the kids as back-up singers a few times.  John in the front bashing out hymns on the keyboard and the kids singing in the back.  Some of them make up in volume for lack of musicality.

As for teaching them, IIRC John can't read music.  He plays by ear and had to have someone else do the musical notation for the "hymns"  he wrote.  If Esther hasn't been taught to read music either, I expect the kids are having to teach themselves.

And, given that performance, it is rather rich that John claimed Alatheia was "teaching some young ladies to play the violin" a couple of months ago.

You didn't miss much.  It was painful.

Johnny is now edumacating us about epilepsy.  He's been studying it diligently.   I've bolded some of his responses to my accusation of the Shraders being woo woo. and added some comments in italics  Shrader is so reading here.

Quote

An Update: for those kindly asking about our son Nehemiah's seizures (with some fascinating info available for anyone with a loved one suffering with Epilepsy)

Since the last seizure and tests, we thankfully have not had another episode to our knowledge. We are planning at this time to have another EEG in December when the recommended doctor is back in Zambia, but are honestly not expecting to see much from that. The first one from a couple months ago was completely normal with no warning signs. This other doctor is supposed to be very good at the EEG according to the Pediatrician.

We are not big pharmaceutical people, as most that know us are aware, and we much prefer natural (through reasonable and documented) approaches to our. family's healthcare. We stay away from the crazy stuff in that area. I like documented, scientific, etc. (for example, if you study what homeopathy actually is, it's a belief in energy, there is almost nothing of the herbs used left in the "remedies." The history of homeopathy is quite disturbing to a Bible-believing Child of God).

[Eh, Johnny.  Colloidal Silver is pretty nutty. but I agree with you on homeopathy.]

I've been diligently studying Epilepsy with Esther, and there are only two known things that have been documented to produce a real cures for Epilepsy. The first, brain surgery, is not acceptable to us, and is not always successful. The second, non-surgical and non-pharmaceutical, is helpful to at least 50-75%, and has totally cured countless people from Epilepsy, whereas the drugs can only suppress, not cure, and most have potentially horrible side effects, and there is a large percentage that have an Epilepsy that simply does not respond to the drugs.

['Tis true.  There are serious side effects.  But suppressing seizures can be important if they are potentially life threatening. Google Status Epilepticus, John.

And goodness knows what non-pharm "cure" you are considering.]

If anyone would like more info on the 6 things I have found (so far) and which we are really excited about, feel free to send us a message. We will happily share them with you (if you just comment I might miss it, so please send us a direct message if you want the info!)

I'm not posting them publicly for specific reasons, [like being accused of medical neglect] but suffice it to say that Esther and I are greatly relieved and comforted at what we have discovered, and let's just say the other approach which is documented to have cured many, was advocated and successfully used by The Mayo Clinic (at least in the past), and John Hopkins as well. In every decade since the 1920's studies have been done on it, and four major meta-analyses (reviews of many studies) have been published in the past 10 years about it. 50-75% are helped. Many are completely and totally cured, with no seizures returning at all!

[Jesus wept.  I hope he isn't considering Potassium Bromide (KBr).  It is not recommended for humans these days because it makes people insane.  It is still used for dogs.  It sent my epi-hound insane too (a rare side effect for dogs).  Mr C ended up on a cocktail of four human drugs.  Of my 3 epi-jounds his epilepsy was the hardest to contol]

God is good, and we thank Him for guiding our steps in this matter. We have already implemented 4 of the 6 things, the last 2 we will undertake completely if we find the seizures continue.

[Spill, Johnny, spill the tea!]

We deeply desire to sincerely and humbly thank each one of you that have prayed, or are continuing to pray for our family in these times. With Esther right at starting her final trimester, and my weakness as I move more and more back into the work of the ministry, and with my present limitations due to the healing process from my back surgery, it has all added up to living in a state of exhaustion much of the time, but God is working and providing and we are truly rejoicing, and thanking you all again who "hold up our hands" in prayer. God is sustaining us marvelously on all fronts.

May the Lord bless you and keep you all. Thank you again from our hearts got your prayers.

Bro. John for Esther and the kiddos here in Africa

Yeah.  He is being very cagey about what "non-pharmaceutical" remedy they are willing to try with Nehemiah.

And Esther is starting her final trimester and John is exhausted. And weak.

I would love if he is trying CBD. He would never admit to that. ?

Based on some quick google seraches, other than prescription drugs and surgery, these are other treatments listed:

- Ketogenic diet

- Various stimulators (vagus nerve stimulator, deep brain stimulation, neurostimulator)

- Possibly Biofeedback too

I wonder what else he found.

*

John has another post up, just below the Nehemiah update. Wonder who the Missionary daughter coming to help them is. (bolding mine)

Spoiler

"Not unto us, O LORD, not unto us, but unto Thy name give glory, for Thy mercy, and for Thy truth's sake." - Ps. 115:1-3

God did an amazing thing yesterday, which is what He easily does!

Praising the Lord, To God be the GLORY alone!

God is an amazing Father. He truly honors the promise of Matthew 6:6. I've actually seen Bro. George Muller mocked several times in recent years, but coincidentally, those mocking him could not testify of 7,000 recorded specific answers to prayer, much less the 70,000 that he did.

We were just looking at buying a plane ticket from Alaska to Zambia (not cheap!) for the Missionary daughter who is flying to Africa to help us in the role of our midwife for the upcoming birth, and we were also, just yesterday, in Lusaka pricing a piece of equipment for our print shop.

After we returned home last night, we received a message from our Sending Church that an incredible love offering was given, that very day! We were informed Wednesday night! It's enough to cover both needs, the plane ticket and the printing equipment!!

Friends, Matthew 6:6 is a reality, and God delights in showing Himself Strong, in fact, His Word boldly declares in II Chron. 16:9a that He is looking for those through whom He can do so, all over the world!

Don't miss the point. Although this is an amazing provision, it's NOT about the money. It's the perfect timing of our Omniscient and Omnipotent God, touching a heart with the amount that HE knew was needed on the other side of the world, and thus showing HIS ability to both know and provide, and thus HE ALONE may receive the Glory. The funds were given at EXACTLY the right time, though the giver knew nothing of the needs!!

Every time God does this, it simply and totally and absolutely thrills me. It's not unusual to me, as I grew up watching my parents live this way, but it is exciting and never ever ever gets old!!!

"Wherefore should the heathen say, Where is now their God? But our God is in the heavens: He hath done whatsoever He hath pleased." - vv. 2,3

God is so good to us, and we love how our children get to grow up constantly, consistently and amazingly getting to see the Mighty Hand and Power of God displayed as we serve Him here in Zambia.

Glory to God in the Highest!!!

Yes Bro John is weak. The money for the plane ticket etc didn't just become available. John has obviously contacted the family willing to send their daughter from Alaska to help out. Word has been passed around. Money grifted from various sheeples and sent to John. John tells such porkies.

Hee!  I don't know about the other suggestions  you found but whatever.  Perhaps little Nehe will grow out of the seizures.  I hope so, and it does happen.  Of course, if he does Johnny will be very smug.  But instead of all that complicated stuff, I think Shrader should go all Mark 5 1-20 and try a herd of swine instead.

And thanks for catching the post that I missed.  It is a beauty!

I dunno, if they are having to import a "Missionary Daughter" (who may or may not be a qualified midwife)  for the delivery of the 12th little blessing, does this mean they have successfully alienated every. single. Godly. midwife in Sub-Saharan Africa.

The logic of importing a midwife from Alaska who is completely ignorant about conditions and hospital availability in Kafue and Lusaka, at great expense, completely escapes me.  Let us all hope nothing goes wrong.

John's God and the donor who provided all this money need their brains tested.  So does Johnny.

Oh, sweet baby Jebus. What has Shrader found to inflict on his poor boy?

I’ve got a dear friend of over two decades who’s suffered from epilepsy pretty much her whole life. The keto diet helped, but didn’t eliminate, her seizures. CBD also helps, but she still seizes. She’s even been to the Mayo Clinic for advice. Somehow no one suggested anything with a 50-75% seizure-elimination rate.
Should I be surprised that John’s time with Dr. Google has led him to the “cure” for epilepsy, somehow  unknown to top doctors on both sides of the American coast?

Nah...God just blesses and favors Johnny more than he does the doctors. ?

Hope Nehemiah doesn’t get injured by John’s hubris about medicine and epilepsy “cures.”

So he can finance flying out a midwife from Alaska, get himself private surgery on the Cayman Islands and Nehemia hasn't even seen a specialist yet?

How about flying Esther home have a godly Midwife there and taking your seriously ill son with her?

John is "literally battling Satan."  Please hold precious Grandma Rosaria and Grandpa Dominic Chisempu in your thoughts and wish them strength as he batters on their elderly hatches again today.  May they resist the kool aid and sniff out that John is a dirty narcissistic church planting rat who only wants to up his score of converting Christians to his own nasty version of Christianity.

And he keep teasing about the mystery phone call but never tells us what it was about.  Spit it out, Shrader.

Please Pray for the Sharing of the Gospel of Christ!

It's early Friday am here in Zambia, and if you are still up, Esther and I would covet your prayers as we go shortly to meet with this precious older couple at their small home regarding Bible Salvation. Their names are Dominic and Rosaria Chisempu. We have been very encouraged to have them start visiting our church services here in Kafue! It's so rare here to have an older couple that are so open. We have been requesting prayer for them recently, so some may recognize them. Excited at how God is already working in their hearts!!

Thank you dear friends, for praying for us as we hold forth the Word of Life to precious eternal souls here in Africa. We need your prayers, because we are literally battling Satan himself for each precious soul.

"But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost: In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them. For we preach not ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord; and ourselves your servants for Jesus' sake. For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us. We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; Persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed; Always bearing about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our body." II Cor. 4:3-10
