Andrea Mills of YouTube infamy Had Cancer and Died

You can really notice how jaundiced she is. Someone on Tom's Facebook page suggested they try dog dewormer to treat her cancer. Maybe people mean well but she is at the point where she's beyond anything helping, and if she wasn't dog dewormer would be the last thing you'd try.

I watched the latest video (posted about an hour ago). The kids and some other family members are visiting her at the hospice. It's just really tragic to watch the kids. They oldest understand. Don't know about the youngest ones.

And I'm not sure she'll make it home, to be honest.

I'm deeply sad for this family. I'm also concerned that the children's grief is being not only filmed, but filmed and shared with the general public.

They brought all the children to see her in the middle of the night (I think the clock on the wall is at 1:20am) at the hospice facility. Sadly, I assume they did/do not expect her to survive for the children to visit her later on today.

I am honestly shocked to see how fast, especially the last few days, this horrible disease has completely taken over this poor woman. Really shocked.

Hang on--I hope this question isn't insensitve, but what is the timeline of events here? Didn't she literally just miscarry a day or two ago? Is it only the cancer that suddenly has her from "pregnant with aches and pains" last week to "not going to survive the day" today, or is this mostly the placenta infection that's killing her so quickly? I haven't watched any of the videos, I'm only seeing secondhand over here what's going on. Forgive my confusion.

How absolutely devastating. :( That's such a tragedy.

This is horrible her cancer was rare and metastatic cancer is made worse by hormones, her being pregnant would have made it spread faster. Someone I follow on Twitter at Christmas had to deliver her baby a month early because she was diagnosed with stage 4 metastatic breast cancer and she said that with it being hormone driven her pregnancy made it spread, she also made the decision to have a hysterectomy to make sure she never gets pregnant again.

My thoughts go to Andrea her husband and her children, no family should be going through this.

Metastatic cancer is generally not made worse by hormones from pregnancy. Breast cancer cells often have oestrogen or progesterone receptors on them in which case pregnancy can make them grow faster.   Some other cancers are hormone sensitive too, however that's not the norm as far as types of cancer go. Not commenting on Andrea's situation either way on that front.

Disclaimer: I don't have any of the medical details of this case so I'm just going by probabilities.

I think the retained placenta is a minor issue. I think the problem is that she has a highly aggressive cancer and one that seems to be spreading like wildfire. I've seen patient's die with heartbreaking speed from the first significant symptom/diagnosis. It happens.

Based on how much the jaundice has worsened in just the last few hours I completely agree.  So devastating. :(

To my understanding, the issue could be a possible sepsis. I also don’t have any medical knowledge and training, so I’m only guessing.

This is so unexpected, fast and tragic. Cancer is a bitch! I followed her on Youtube for a long time and my heart goes out to her family.

I agree. I hope this is just him not thinking clearly right now and that he will remove these videos in the future so that only the children can see them. There was one child who was obviously trying to hide his face when the video turned to him.

Yes,it can. It is relatively rare yet most of us in health care have seen it. I have seen it several times. Two summers ago my cousin went from being well and healthy to dead in 15 days. Her primary was never identified. There was a local high school student who developed a cold and less than 7 days later she died with a very aggressive type of leukemia. The type of cancer Andrea has is very aggressive, a co-worker with it died within 3 months.

Agreed.  I am uncomfortable with the direction this is taking.

The whole, "Andrea, wake up!" thing is really bothering me.  She is clearly in excruciating pain.  She shouldn't be disturbed for "the YouTube people".

Same for last night.  When she was being loaded, she was clearly in a great deal of pain.  Him asking her if she wanted to say anything "to the YouTube people", made me very uneasy.

My heart is breaking for this woman and her children.  I just hope they are able to keep her as comfortable as possible.  I can't stand to see anyone hurting like she is.

I am a paramedic.  I have seen so many strange things from grieving people, especially when it’s sudden grief like this, that I don’t even blink anymore.  Filming deaths and tragedies is more common than you can imagine, and irritating to the health care workers.  I hate it when someone is filming us loading their loved one into the ambulance, but I am not going to tell people how to cope, either.

Hopefully when things settle down and he is back in a right state of mind, he will take some of these videos down.

I think he is not in the right frame of mind at this time. Her diagnosis might still feel unreal to him.

I don’t know the Mills fam and don’t mean to defend her husband in any way. However, I’m thinking that in a situation like this, I might not act very rational either. Thank God I never had to go through anything similar to this, but if a dearly loved one were to die so young and so unexpectedly, I’m not sure I wouldn’t make a scene and have a public meltdown in the hospital or hospice. So him asking her to wake up or to say something to the cancer could very well be born in a lack of rationality and the desperate desire to hear her speak, being alive and well.

I'm going to sound like a leg humper and I agree, if was me I'd turn off the public video and just focus on saying goodbye but I'm still giving her husband a pass. He's had only a few days to go from healthy wife expecting a new baby and maybe having some pregnancy issues to wife dying in a few hours to days. I've seen patients in this place and it is a hard place to be. I've seen reactions run the gamut from zombie to amazing grace. I give them all a pass. Maybe he will regret making her last days public but maybe he will say the act of filming and the support he got was what he needed to survive this moment.

I have been watching Andrea's YouTube channel for about 3 years I'd guess.  I always found her vey calming to listen to while I work.  I admire how they are a "live and let live" family.  Clearly they have views that are different than the vast majority of people in general, and even than that of their viewers.  Their was no condemnation like other fundies who are snarked on here.

Looking back to when Andrea had Hannah a year ago, she has frequently commented on video's that she just wasn't sure where her channel was going or what she should do. She had accomplished what she set out to do when she started the channel (which was apparently to have a totally unassisted birth).  Her rate of video release slowed exponentially, which didn't happen after Claudia's birth.  To me it seemed like she was having trouble planning for the future - which I thought was strange.  A few months ago she posted a video about her thoughts on death, mostly relating to her mom's death and how it affected her.  I guess I can't really explain what I'm trying to say, but in hindsight it is kind of like she knew there wasn't going to be long... nothing to plan for.  My heart breaks for her kids and Tom and her extended family.  Tom has had a lot of loss in his life - his dad at age 10, his brother from some kind of congenital condition, his step-dad (grandma Kitty's husband).  Their lives will be forever changed, I hope they can surround themselves with those who love them and move forward as best they can.

If this is a bilious cancer, it can move scarily fast. My friend who passed from that cancer went from feeling a little off, to going to the doctor, to heading home to chat with other doctors to find out what was wrong, to dead, all within 4-6 weeks. I'm so sad to have not seen her before she left, but I still recall another friend's parent saying how yellow she had looked before she'd returned home. She'd been an incredibly healthy, vibrant, vivacious person, and then she was suddenly gone.

Cancer is the fucking worst.

Hopefully this does not sound disrespectful, but Andrea's disease has been a huge wake up call for me. I have just reapplied for my second Master's degree; I only need to wrap up one final course to get my degree, I have already completed my internships and all the other courses for this Master's, but I was too embarrassed to re-enroll at first, because at 28 years old I was feeling too old to re-enroll and felt I should have completed it 2 years ago (I was not able to due to a variety of circumstances).

We should never take anything for granted or become afraid of starting over/giving yourself a second chance.

Definitely give yourself a second chance!  And third, and fourth, and however many you need.  You can do it :changing_color_heart:

Really, not to be a leghumper (but honestly if y'all think I am being one then fine, whatever, it's no skin off my back), but I hope her final days are spent being in as little pain as possible, surrounded by the people and the place that she devoted her adult life to. I hope her home brings her comfort and peace, and that her family finds healing and comfort also in those precious last few days with her. I hope Tom finds the strength from somewhere, and that he has the support and help necessary to heal from this and help their children to do so also.

These kind words hardly make you a leghumper, they just make you a decent human being.

I love baseball but I'm dreading the new season because the White Sox ownership is THE FUCKING WORST. I watched Dominican League Baseball (Lidom!) over the winter and fell in love with their joy, spirit, and exuberance. The broadcasts were in Spanish and my Spanish is pretty weak but I loved catching phrases and repeating them. Bombe! I'm sad about MLB and Commissioner Idiota's busywork rules. But I love baseball, always and forever.
I guess I don't have a point. Just bitching. Te amo mucho, Lidom!

Feeling ragey this morning. I have a doctor's appointment this afternoon in the hope of getting help for an ongoing injury. I went to a (different!!) doctor late last year who completely blew me off. He wouldn't do diagnostic testin, he refused to send me to a specialist, and he just told me to "take it easy" and "take ibuprofen." I'm hopeful for today's appointment but I'm also feeling a SEVERE amount of rage at that doctor from last year!

Well, the rash is back with a vengeance. It never completely cleared up. I saw the derm yesterday and they did another swab and yup, raging infection again, still? It is definitely strep skin infection. I am getting so damn tired and run down from this. Who the f would immagine being hospitalized freaking TWICE for a rash?

My niece is going to be a seat filler at this year's Academy Awards.  Seat fillers are asked to wear tuxedos regardless of sex/gender.  If you see a pretty young woman with very curly hair, it could be my niece.
