Bike ride adventures

Today's early morning bike ride through Dubuque.  (Apologies for the shakiness in the video).

This is the  47 Badger.  Watch em bicycle in fast motion...

It was a nice 12.5 mile ride through Dubuque.  I think I'm going to have to get some highlighter color sweatshirts since it's a bit chilly early in the morning now.

Loved the video.  Glad to see you are still at it!  Is the tower some sort of area overlook?  I'll have to dust off my bike and get out on the local trails before the end of summer.

Thank you!

The stone tower is the Julien Dubuque Monument. It’s the final resting place of Julien Dubuque, who lived in the area in the late 18th and early 19th centuries.

Might do this route tomorrow.

It’s 26 miles one way so it’d be 52 miles total. Of course there will be a BEER pit stop in the middle.

I did that monster 52 mile ride today.

I got to the trail head and left a little before 10:00am.  Of course there was the brewery pit stop in the middle - I got there just after noon.  Stayed there about an hour and got back to Dubuque at 4:20.

Got a few photos here....

When I do that again I think I'll try to leave a little bit earlier in the morning - hour or two earlier - so I can get back a bit earlier in the afternoon.

Awesome ride!  Thanks for sharing the photos.  What was your favorite beer--it all looked delicious (and well earned)!

Our occasional long ride is about 30 miles round trip.  And that's only with hamburgers and sodas at the turn.  I'd go farther with a brew pub destination, lol!

Probably the Doo Ron Ron - the one in the 10oz glass. It’s a mix of lager and ipa. Very tasty and refreshing.

Probably half the planet is saying oh no GoPro created a monster when it comes to me....

(And the main reason there isn't a similar video of yesterday's trip is that I was 5 miles in when I remembered that I had left my GoPro at home).

Well, I'm from the half that enjoys the videos.  I'm in a different area (west coast), so I'm enjoying your regional landscape.  The stone bridges are so nice, and the biking/walking paths are such a great feature in your community.  I treated myself to a black lager today in your honor.  Salud and happy riding!

Now I'm feeling lazy!  What a great sunrise ride.  My neighborhood is currently surrounded by road construction projects, so I'll have to put my bike in the pickup truck and drive to a trailhead.  Any day now, lol.  Thanks for being an inspiration!

I had to go down to the Quad Cities for my two year post-op appointment.  Which took about 15 minutes.  Plenty of time to go out and explore some local trails...

And yeah, I totally grew up around cameras as my tagline now says....

Another one.

Dubuque, Iowa and East Dubuque, Illinois.

I have no life.

Probably moving on to Last Crusade before too long.

Loved the golden sunlight and the boat ramp scenes.  What's the Last Crusade reference?

Thank you for posting the videos.  We've been going through a stressful time trying to move my mother-in-law to assisted living after a bad fall in her home.  I find the videos soothing.  We are looking at assisted living facilities tomorrow, and my vote is for one along a bike trail.  Coincidence?  I think not...   ??‍♀️

Glad they’re helping you out. Yeah moving family to assisted living is no fun even when it’s clearly beneficial for them and their families.

I used music from Temple of Doom for my last couple time lapse videos so it’s about time to move on to Last Crusade to provide soundtracks.

Got a ride in up in Wisconsin this morning....

Perfect day for it too.  If there wasn't a beer thing today I would have gone on a much longer ride.

What a beautiful day for a ride, and it was good to see some walkers out and about on the trail.  Is that a rails-to-trails system?  We have a couple of those in our area and we really enjoy the heck out of them, especially the ones that pass our favorite pubs.  Hope you had a good time at the beer thing.  ??

This morning I tried a GoPro helmet mount on my 16 mile trek around the fair city of Dubuque and environs.

I had it attached to the side of my helment.  I might try front or top mount next to see if the results are better.  Otherwise the movie turned out fairly well.    And I had 10000 steps before noon once again.

I'd love to get my old Peugeot Mixte restored but what I need most is just a good bike to ride. I've not ridden a bike in years unless you count that exercise bike I rode in inpatient rehab after my stroke.  I liked riding and once thought that cycling through Europe would be the ideal way to see it.  OK, I still think that!

@47of74,  I was going to ask about RAGBRAI and yep, it's still being held.  I think that's wonderful!  (For those not in Iowa, RAGBRAI stands for the De Moines Register's Annual Great Bike Ride Across Iowa.)  I think I read about RAGBRAI in Sports Illustrated

Yeah I have friends who have gone on RAGBRAI. I’m not that into cycling to do that. One friend I used to like to give her a hard time that she got a party at one of the towns shut down.

I think she’s done part of the ride the last few years and might do the full one once her kids get older. Of course she’ll still be getting parties shut down then.

This morning's ride.

I had the GoPro mounted to the top of my helmet this time.   Didn't  turn out as well as I would have liked though.  I think I'll have to do some experimentation to get it right when I use the top helmet mount.

If you are going to keep riding in the dark, I'm glad you have that powerful headlight.  Is it rechargeable?  The chest mount worked well.  Thanks for keeping up the posting.  I really enjoy it with my morning coffee.  ☺️
