Amanda Beth Flynn Thinking About College

Maybe she was only "fundie-lite" before, but I thought she bought into the whole stay-at-home-daughter deal. Looks like she is now considering other options:

I have been reading her blog for many years off and on. I felt for a while that if anyone will fly the coop it would be Amanda. You are quite correct in your assumption that the family was/is pretty well entrenched within the fundie/VF movement and has been for a long while. Flynns are very close friends with Thomas family who could be considered a royalty of sorts since they stayed at teh Botkin Palace.

I think that some of the SAHD are realizing that there is an interesting world out there beyond the family compound. Mercy Morecraft, another SAHD from the top echelons, now works at Anne Taylor Loft and is “trying to figure out collegeâ€. I wonder how daddy Joe feels about all this.

You have made my day!

A Flynn, and a Morecraft???

The Thomases and Flynns and Morecrafts and Servens and Zeses and other bright, shiny Dominionists of their circle are vexatious to me, because they can present themselves as just that effortlessly superior -- and it's all due to following the home-schooling, skirt-wearing, muscle-shirt-wearing (see Niednagel, Jordan), adorable-child-birthing in the exquisitely-charming-home and working for Daddy-who's-cleverly-made-millions while wife poses deliciously sweetly in Soft Surroundings outfits ...

If they're truly that together and happy, good on 'em! But I have to suspect that things are very carefully edited to present the P/QF lifestyle in glowingest terms.

The fact that Amanda Beth and Mercy have thought things over and are opting - at least for now - to live life differently? Well, that has to prove that life is not all medieval weddings on pappa's lush estate grounds, now, doesn't it?

Her post was very thoughtful and surprised me also - but with her past accomplishments, perhaps it is to be expected. I've always wondered how she felt about her younger sister being married before her.

Planning on scheduling my ankle surgery around Trump's Georgia trial - if I'm forced to be off my feet, I might as well be entertained.

And yes, the Church actually has a blessing for beer.

      Stupid loneliness!
Kid 1 went back to college (yeah! But sad foe me, she stayed with me all summer. It was nice to start a new phase in our mother/daughter relationship)
Zero prospects on dates. (Not that I have tried online dating, scared of that but I have reached put to a new group at church, etc.
I asked a friend to go to dinner the other night so I wasn't eating alone, again. The friend had plans, all my friends always have plans. I see stuff on social media, I'm never invited. I'm single, I'm the 3rd or 5th wheel.
My one parent friend at kid 2's fall sport won't be there because their daughter made varsity (Yeah for her!!! Seriously happy for her. Sad for me for another sport I basically sit alone, did that majority of spring and summer sporting events.)
And now I'm crying as my mom told me 2 different funny stores that former teachers remembered about my twin. Both stories were about how they got a crack out of my twin's antics (my parents went to a funeral today and saw former colleagues). Teachers remember me (after all I was a twin and teachers' kid) but none would have memorable stories of me.
      I feel invisible.
Don't worry, this will pass,  it always does. I just need a pity party for a few days. I'm not in anyway going to harm myself. As lonely as I am, I have a very full life I (usually) love. I just needed to vent and cry for a moment.
If you are still reading this, thanks Fjer. 😊

Absolutely awful about the fires on Maui. In 2019, I stayed in Lahaina. I liked to sit on the sea wall, which is the only structure left now, and watch the water. People are receiving help, but many had to leave pets. Please donate to the Maui Humane Society, which is leading efforts to find, treat, and reunite pets.

Nebraska’s new football coach, who is involved in an organization called Man Up Ministries, labels certain players “Alphas” and sometimes “extreme Alphas” and the local paper has a nice piece on why people objecting to the term “alpha male” are wrong and it has a “nice ring”. 🤮🤮🤮🤮
