Dillards 78: Taste the Rainbow

She has seemed a lot closer to Cathy lately.  I think Jill needs a strong parental figure to pull her identity from because she never learned how to critically think for herself and be her own person.  That was JB before she got married, and I think she tried to pull her identity from Derick immediately after marriage, but he was not a fan of having to provide her with minute direction on how to live her life (she's alluded to this being the case a few times).   Then she was lost, unable to pull from JB, unable to pull from Derick, and unable to provide herself with direction.

Now, she's found Cathy as a parental mentor that she can model herself after and pull her identity from.  Jill likes this because she finally has someone else to provide her with direction so she doesn't have to think for herself too much.  Derick likes this because Jill is basically becoming a younger version of his own beloved mother now and shares his close bond with Cathy.

It is what it is, but I don't necessarily hate it.  I think Jill and the older girls completely missed out on having a mother, especially in their pre-teen and teenage years, and I think this may have impacted Jill's ability to be able to find her own identity as an adult woman.  She knows how to be a mother, she knows how to be a child under a headship, but she's struggled to figure out how to be a wife and quasi-autonomous woman.  So I think having that mentor/mother-figure in Cathy may provide a lot of the mentoring that Jill needed and Michelle was too checked out to provide.

I don't particularly care for Cathy as a person from what I've seen of her, but as a mother or mother-figure, she's leagues above Michelle.

Cathy has vile beliefs for sure. She does seem to genuinely love and cherish her children, Daughters-in-Law, and her grandchildren though. I don’t expect the Dills to ever leave Fundiedom. They’ve simply moved from one version to a different one in my opinion (much like JinJer.) But I do hope that having in-laws who work and wear pants and who seem to honestly care for her welfare (unlike her own parents) has helped Jill at least understand that you aren’t a horrible sinner for doing things a little differently than how she was raised and that she isn’t a terrible person for choosing to live life differently than her parents and some siblings might wish she would.

Jill as a sex blogger does seem more entertaining than Jill as a food blogger. Even though both are pretty unappetizing, lol.

Yes, but it's a different kind of unappetizing.  (Please Jill no photos please.) ?

Cathy wrote a book and I'm sure the Amazon reviews will be something else.

My gut feeling (no, I don't have evidence to back this up) is that there has been some/a lot of confrontation between her husband and her father. That has been hard for her to handle. Technically the authority over her has been transfered to her husband - and she's well aware of that - but she's also daddys girl. I think that made her very unsecure and confused for a while. Now she's totally on the Dillard train. For good or for bad, it means that she's more stable as a person. Do I think that some of her ideas are actually Dwrecks? Of course. But they are Dillard ideas, not Duggar ideas.

*warning for speculation*

This is a very interesting thought line for me. I can only imagine how that must be from Jill's perspective. JB&M knew what the plans were, had some sort of outside perspective (like parents with santa clause) since they came to fundiedom late, but seem to have failed to account for the fact there children have not decision making skills in the sense that they seem to prefer not to make decisions. Jill was raised to believe in this transfer of authority, but I don't think JB actually wanted that. I think JB thought his little Jilly muffin would always side with him, would be so attached to the family that SHE would refuse to really leave and bring her man (and whatever it was assumed he was bring with him) into their fold. JB preached this "leave and cleave" and "transfer of authority" crap at all his kids and the one that seems to have actually followed it the most is the one that *looks* on the outs with the family? Jill was really only doing (in this sense) exactly what she was taught and raised to do. It must have been confusing and hard for her to understand or even justify that she was potentially being treated as if she had done something wrong, because JB would never admit that he never meant any of the those things, that might lead to other questions. If this were the case I could see the feud between JB and Dwreck being a real thing and the Dills not actually know why. It could also be what cause a bit of a shift in Jills clothing, sex life, piercing, those things. Ok this was A LOT of speculation, I think my main point was that I kind of feel bad for Jill because she might not know what is going on and also happy for her if it is making her question things. I grew SBC and was taught I would go to hell for any piercings (my ears didn't count because they were done at 6 weeks old so my mom would go to hell for that ) so I personally see that as big step for Jill.

@StraightOuttaArkansas...your comment ^ is very interesting and could very well be true. I used to believe that much of the stuff that JB spouted was all for show and the show. I absolutely believe that JB thought and thinks that all his ILs would/should/will fall into line with his way of thinking.

" modern, smaller, cleaner, edited"

I'd like Jill's daffynition of " modern" in this context....and smaller?!???

She forgot to mention “more boring”

I wonder what they would think about a Hindu person using a "modern, smaller, cleaner, edited" version of the Bible for their personal pick&choose session. What's next for the Dillards- finding passages in Mein Kampf that are somehow useful to them and instagramming about it? The simplification is fascinating.

I'm still shocked that Jill's wearing pants and bermuda shorts. I. Just. Can't. Believe. It. We are still talking about Jill Duggar...right? Jinger really didn't shock me as much, for some reason. Plus Michelle stopped wearing those dark knee highs. Somebody must have told her those are not trendy year round.

Which really isn't hard to do because Michelle wasn't a mother. Once they newborns (I was going to say babies, but that's not true), Michelle didn't really care about her kids. They were just another pair of hands to work. No matter how small those hands were.

Don't worry guys, she was looking at the straight sexy stuff filtered through the bible! The spiciest thing they probably did besides spitting skittles into each other's mouthes was losing the hole in the sheet.

OMG the homosexual part. I know it should not surprise me....yet it does. How people can be so ignorant and hateful is beyond me.

It’s just the sex! Not the spirituality! I promise!

I think Jill had no idea what it was.

I agree with you, there. I think if you asked most average people, they'd say that the Kama Sutra was a book of sexual positions. They'd perhaps know that it originated in India, and maybe MAYBE that it was Hindu in origin. But I think that'd be about it. And Jill and Derick have never been known for their intellectual curiosity or keen intellects.

What live insta thing?

Where he filmed Michelle after she walked in the house while scolding at Jenni, then put up her sweet face for the camera. She clearly did not like that move by Derick. There were no live videos after that incident. And no more Derick in the house.

You can look at it here, gossipy clip, but I couldn't find anything better.

I'm not surprised she has came out and said what she has about the Kama Sutra, I don't blame her for it either as much as I dislike what she is saying about homosexuality and sex outside marriage. Jill was getting a bit of a backlash from people who share her beliefs and the ones who will be making money from.

@Mlissmartin She was making a statement about how the Duggars are incapable of understanding or respecting other people's beliefs. Hence, the Kama Sutra being the wrong “flavor” of beliefs since it isn’t Christian or exactly what they personally believe.

In her updated Instagram post about the Kama Sutra, Jill writes that “we’ve not read the actual Kama Sutra” but also claims “husbands and wives should filter everything they read and hear together through the lense of the Bible”. But how could they have decided the KS is unbiblical and endorses messages they don’t subscribe to without having first checked whether it’s compatible with the Bible? Heresy? Who would have thought... ?

I love baseball but I'm dreading the new season because the White Sox ownership is THE FUCKING WORST. I watched Dominican League Baseball (Lidom!) over the winter and fell in love with their joy, spirit, and exuberance. The broadcasts were in Spanish and my Spanish is pretty weak but I loved catching phrases and repeating them. Bombe! I'm sad about MLB and Commissioner Idiota's busywork rules. But I love baseball, always and forever.
I guess I don't have a point. Just bitching. Te amo mucho, Lidom!

      Happy International Women's Day!

Humanity may have some work to do, to improve gender equality, but I was glad to hear that France has taken an important step to protect healthcare for women (and people of other genders who can get pregnant).

Feeling ragey this morning. I have a doctor's appointment this afternoon in the hope of getting help for an ongoing injury. I went to a (different!!) doctor late last year who completely blew me off. He wouldn't do diagnostic testin, he refused to send me to a specialist, and he just told me to "take it easy" and "take ibuprofen." I'm hopeful for today's appointment but I'm also feeling a SEVERE amount of rage at that doctor from last year!

Well, the rash is back with a vengeance. It never completely cleared up. I saw the derm yesterday and they did another swab and yup, raging infection again, still? It is definitely strep skin infection. I am getting so damn tired and run down from this. Who the f would immagine being hospitalized freaking TWICE for a rash?

My niece is going to be a seat filler at this year's Academy Awards.  Seat fillers are asked to wear tuxedos regardless of sex/gender.  If you see a pretty young woman with very curly hair, it could be my niece.
