Angry fundies target wrong company

I have actually just started reading the book. It's typical Neil Gaimin, irreverent and funny. The Briefly daughter says that the show is close to the book and she is really enjoying it.

I am not surprised that it's being protested, but geez couldn't they at least protest at the right place?  That is pretty dumb.  Maybe I should not be surprised at that, either.

I have watched the first five episodes and I love it! But I love anything with David Tennant in it. He’s my favorite doctor. I also love most things with Michael Sheen too. He’s so funny.

I love the book dearly and have read it many times, so I'm a little afraid to watch the show. I don't know if I want to replace my mental images of the characters and various scenes with the images from the series.

My guess is that the complainers haven't bothered to actually watch the program hence them complaining to the wrong company.

*with my best David Attenborough impression* On the left, dear FJlers, you see a fundy’s expression when faced with an even slightly dissenting opinion. The photo on the right, on the other hand, captures said specimen being all sweet and lovely while trying to take other people’s freedoms away.

What do you think they hate the most about Good Omens? My guess: that god is played by a woman.

here's the best part about this fundie protest: this is based on a single book and is a limited series - there was no chance it would ever be renewed. it's a one off deal.

This being said the tv show is highly recommend. It is a delight. I loved the book so I worried it would not translate well but this adaptation is wonderful.

I'm not binging because once it's gone, it's gone and my love for David Tennant is deep and undying (I mean, i watched Gracepoint FFS!), but this show is delightful.

Don't tell them about the show Lucifer on Netflix.

Shhh let’s keep it our secret.  Lucifer is my current favorite and the only series that I have been able to watch longer than like four episodes.... I have the attention span of a gnat and am usually doing 15 other things so it’s hard to get into a show.

My grandma and grandpa and I had lunch today and even they got a laugh about how ridiculously stupid this group made themselves look by targeting the wrong company when I read the article to them. My grandma is 80 and religious and even she said it’s TV, live and let live. (Of course now that I think about it, she is the same grandma who during a family game of cards against humanity played the card “revenge fucking” and was extremely proud of herself when grandpa picked her card and she won the round...but I digress  ?)

This reminds me of the time, right after the 2016 election, when Mike Pence went to see “Hamilton” on Broadway and the cast greeted him and asked him to uphold human rights—and a few audience members booed at him. The Hamilton Theatre in Ontario started getting hate messages.?

I felt the same way with American Gods, but actually everything was very accurate in the series and I absolutely enjoyed. Not exactly as in the book (or as in my mind!) but the actors and the sceneries really fit the story. And well. Ricky Whittle. Those muscles. Ok. Ok. I'm fine.

Omg, they have an extremely snarkable twitter feed. https://twitter.com/ReturntoOrder/  They posted this gem https://www.returntoorder.org/2017/08/interview-with-dr-christine-bacon-save-marriage-at-all-costs/  And I just found their "TFP student action" twitter https://twitter.com/tfpsa/ ?which sounds like a pornhub category, but ok.

Your grandma sounds wonderful!  I'd say badass but I don't want to be insulting by accident.  But she sounds like a wonderful grandma.

The Amazon Company is apparently very amused by the whole thing, on the official Amazon twitter the company offered to cancel Strange Things if Netflix would cancel Good Omens.

LOL Netflix tweeted that they won't be renewing this series. I'm not sure that fundies get the Joke but the the twitter thread is pretty funny to me.

What do you think of season 2 of American Gods? I really liked season 1, but then I heard that there were a ton of changes being made for season 2 both behind the scenes and in front of the camera, and i've been afraid to spend my limited free time trying to watch it, lol.  Would you say season 2 is good?

As someone who has also been a book fan for several years, I would say, don't be afraid to watch it.  As book to screen adaptations go, (which can so easily fail as you know) I would give it an 8 out of 10 for execution. There were a few tiny changes that I would choose to make (mainly involving the kids) but they would be tiny.  Considering how easy it is to fuck up "book to screen" they really did a very good job.  And I actually enjoyed some of the changes they made from the book, like Crowley's hair.

I loved their responses and they dealt with it the way they should have. I don't watch either of those shows, not my cup of tea but the great thing about television and streaming services is that you have the choice to watch things or not.

I haven't still finished it. It's different from the book but I think the new gods are very well performed and their story is more clear than in the book (I think there wasn't internet and social.networks when the book was written, and some changes adapt the novel to the current times). Also the Laura's story is different from the book. I think the creators are trying to make the story longer as they can do a 3rd season. But still an impressive show, in my opinion.

I loved season one but season two ... I haven't been able to get into it. Not like season one. I think I made it part way through the first (maybe second) episode. The show-runners (creators and directors) left after season one and they took Gillian Anderson and Kristin Chenoweth with them. The production got behind and they fired the new showrunner, and cut the number of episodes down, and I heard that Ian McShane was unhappy. The direction definitely took a change right off the bat, it wasn't as "dream like" from what I remember. (As I said, I watched very little of it right when it came out and it was hard.)

It has mixed reviews online.

I love the book and my only regret is that Terry Prachett did not live long enough to see this show made. I had a few missed or tweaked bits, but on the whole it felt really fitting and honoured the book so well. As much as I like David Tennant, Michael Sheeen was so much more perfect for the roll then I knew. I fell in love with him so much.

I love Neil Gaiman's stuff, I have followed his work for years and as much as I was going along with American God's the first season, I made it through 1 or 2 episodes of season 2 and haven't gone back. I think my issue is I dont like Rick who they cast as Shadow at all. He is too hot, too angry, too self assured, he is not, "Puppy", he is not a guy who looks down at his feet, apologizes for being too big and taking up space, or keeps his head down, the casting just hurt and then it kind of got murky in Season 2 and they started to realise they made a mess of the new Laura storyline and now had no clue what to do with all that. I was ok with going different then the book, and new God's but Shadow, then the storytellers losing confidence in the storyline are what lost me.

Sorry to geek out lol!

So many nutters think thet got their way lol, all the geeks are laughing agreeing, we only wanted 1 season too lol!

I watched some episodes, and it's hilarious. Of course, I'm a huge David Tennant fan, so I was going to watch anyway. I think that for most fundies who wrote to Netflix, they were offended that God was played a woman, and the racists are most likely offended that Adam and Eve in the first episode were African.
