It's all part of the Republicans plan -- make sure the ACA has weak legs so it can't be all that it was intended to be, so when it's threatened people write it off as 'it didn't work that great anyway'. I'm still trying to figure out how freedom entails being 'free' from healthcare....

I don't really remember insurance before the ACA -- I was young and fairly healthy, plus I heard horror stories of rising premiums and "pre-existing conditions" -- as I had been diagnosed with asthma at age 2, I figured I wouldn't be approved anyway. I had to visit a walk-in clinic in 2013 and paid $163 for the visit and $50 for the antibiotic (I got a coupon!) and then I got a bill from the lab for $710.
I've since added Graves' disease and anemia to my health resume, so no ACA doesn't bode well for me!

I would prefer Medicare for All, but the ACA is better than the nothing we had before. Insurance companies are out to make a profit, they don't give a shit about your health.

Yeah the ACA didn't really help my mom at all. Either way she had to pay a crap load of money and we ended up in so much debt from all her medical bills. Medicaid on one hand is nice it covers everything but you stuck with Medicaid doctors who either don't care so they don't do anything to treat you, figure out the problem or anything or doctors so swamped with patients you barely get five minutes with them, appointments are way out there and they don't have time figure out what the problem is. So your only options are to stick with them or go to non-Medicaid doctor that you have to pay out of pocket for or find someone who will pay for you but will actually treat you. You have to pay for the labs too. If you don't have money your stuck with your crap Medicaid doctor who isn't or won't actually treat you. I did get lucky that the rheumatologist takes Medicaid  although she's in a city an hour away. My Medicaid doctor refused to refer me to her although she kept lying to my face that it was the rheumatologist who kept rejecting me it was a complete lie the rheumatology would see me but only after she talked with my doctor and my doctor refused. My wonderful Medicaid doctors who kept insisting everything was fine even though I ended up in a wheelchair and needing a caretaker, who somehow missed that all of my vital signs were dangerously low. I was four numbers off from needing a blood transfusion. That's the crap care you get when your a Medicaid patient.  You may not have to pay but you end up paying in other ways with crappy doctors and treatment. The absolute crazy thing is. If you actually want people to get off Medicaid maybe start actually treating them? If you find out what their problem is odds are the doctors can probably fix or treat many of the patients on Medicaid getting them healthy or well enough to be able to go to work and get off Medicaid. Instead we're spending more money on not treating patients, making sure they don't get better thus insuring that they stay on Medicaid longer.

My Medicaid rheumatologist is an exception. She's absolutely amazing!

Jessa apparently replied to a question about IJ’s pacifier use with some normal stuff about breastfeeding exclusively, but also had to throw in a detail about how BFing is “the pacifier God designed”

So I guess pacifiers have to join birth control, pornography, and careers for women as Not Part Of God’s Design.

The whole point of it is, we live in a supposed Christian country, but in our country (USA) guns are a God given right and health care is a privilege.  That really doesn't sound very Christ like to me, but what do I know, I'm just an evil liberal who thinks, everyone should have access to health care, mental health care, dental health care, food, education, clean air and water. Call me crazy, call me a socialist, or what ever, but I believe in God, and I believe in healthcare, education, clean water and clean air for everyone.

That makes me liberal too. Although growing up I really didn't think I was because those things really don't seem like far out ideas.  Decent health, medical and dental care, food, education, equality, clean air and water don't really seem like that much to ask for.

I guess my version of Jesus is messed up according to the "Religious right".

Yeah, that might be where my family went wrong too. We were raised with the Happy Jesus who wants you to grow up take care of yourself, help people who needed or our unable to take care of themselves and be nice to each other.  We weren't raised by to used Jesus's name to strip rights, money and everything from everyone else while claiming to be a good Christian. I swear everything the "Religious right", Duggars and so many others say and claim is the exact opposite as to what I was taught.

Truthfully her comment sounded pretty smug. Sure, you can have your baby hang on your boob 24/7 when your husband does who knows what all day, you've never worked and don't have to be returning to work and your kids are regularly shipped off to TTH. Most of the rest of humanity doesn't have that luxury so they have to use Lucifer-designed pacifiers instead.

It does sound smug but I've seen a lot of mum's in the public eye get shamed for using them on their baby's, a singer and presenter I follow got abuse for using one and told that it increases risk of SIDS it doesn't. So she may have said that to shut up the people judging her for using it.

I’ve seen a lot of fundies using pacifiers. They’re called dummies here in the U.K.

Over here they seem to be the norm. Mum didn’t use them for me or my brother; I wasn’t a thumb-sucker either. My brother sucked his finger. I’ve not heard of shaming around them but I’m not a mum yet.

I’ve heard criticisms for just about everything for babies that don’t require the mom to hold the baby and provide it with her 100% undivided attention. Pacifiers are telling your baby to “shut up with that crying”. Swings are for when you can’t be bothered to hold your baby. Pack n Plays are for when you don’t want to watch or interact with your baby. Seriously, unless you are willing to hold or wear your child 24/7 you are neglecting it.

I may be reading too much into it but Jessa’s comment seems to be shaming moms who use pacifiers and those who don’t breastfeed.

ETA: I can also see it as a defense against people “mom shaming” her. I guess what I’m trying to say is I HATE the shaming.

I hate the Mom shaming,too.

On my news feed,yesterday...there was a picture of a woman nursing her baby,in public, uncovered.

Well, then the comments started, some were the same...how she should use a light cover..well,some babies don't like being covered.Would you want to eat with your head covered...plus,in my opinion,it's still obvious what is being done.I was in awe of women who could breastfeed so discreetly...like you could not tell that is what they were doing,it looked like the baby was being held. Then as usual someone said "It's natural" then someone responds and says so is using the toilet but the bathroom has a door. They said women who breastfeed in public were just seeking attention from men by nursing, one person even said that women who breastfeed in public..are sluts!

I can tell you,I was shamed FOR breastfeeding.I never felt comfortable doing it in public...so I would go and nurse my babies in the ladies room,if I was out.And I admire those who breastfeed in public...I don't think it's seeking attention,at all,it's about nourishing your child.

There will always be someone looking down on someone else for doing something different than they did. My kids are grown now, and the internet was pretty new when they were little, there was no facebook or instagram yet, and thank fuck for that, it was bad enough in the few venues I went to in the early 2000's

As for pacifiers/binkies/dummies what ever you call them, they can be a godsend for an infant, it is used for soothing, suckling reflex is soothing to infants, and you can't have them on a boob or bottle 24/7 because they will get sick from all the milk. My son loved his binky and he used it until he was 11 months old, I found that he was just playing with mostly in his mouth out of habit, so one day I took them all and put them up and when he went looking for I said, they are all gone, and he wasn't upset, until nap time, he cried for a while which was unusual for him, but he fell asleep after a couple of minutes. He would look for it here and there for the next few days, and fuss a little bit at bed times, but for the most part he was OK with it being gone. DD, on the other hand, only used one for about 4 months, and it was only at nap/bedtime she couldn't be bothered while she was awake. Of course weaning her off the bottle was HARD, she didn't want to give that up. No didn't breastfeed, I wanted too, but I fall in the category of women who don't lactate, so does  my sister. 4 babies between us, and we probably produced enough milk to make a 4 ounce bottle. Nothing worked, teas, drugs, herbs we tried them all.

Pacifiers at nap and bedtime are actually recommended for babies from a few weeks old up to a year as a way to reduce SIDS risk. And if a parent uses a pacifier after that or outside sleep time to sooth the baby and get some peace, sounds logical to me.

Pacifiers are only bad if you introduce them before you have a good latch routine established or if children continue using them for many hours a day into their older toddlerhood.

As with most things in parenting a baby, things are not usually black and white good or bad. Twenty minutes in a swing is great and healthy. Overnight in swing? Not a good practice. Thirty minutes in bouncer so you can do some laundry? cool. Putting your baby in any holding device and leaving for more than a couple minutes? not awesome (although it is still a GREAT idea to do that if you're feeling PPD and need to step away). Even swaddling can be done badly if you restrict the hips or get the shoulders out of place or if you swaddle after the baby can roll over. But swaddling can also be awesome and healthy.

We all only see a snapshot of people's lives. Judgement is not just pointless, it's ridiculous.

The mom shaming is such an indicator of how far we still have to go. Motherhood perfection ideals are unattainable and just make everyone feel guilty and inadequate. I hope as women we see our role to encourage and uplift each other, and not fall into the pit of attacking each other over sexist gender role norms. The madonna/whore thing is so old!

Like Meghan Markle didn't hold Archie at some event to everyone's exacting standards and now it's global news. Sure if something is actually unsafe or unhealthy it should be discussed. But issues like type of feeding or pacifiers are just choices and not a basis for personal attacks. (Obviously saying "here's what worked for me" or "in my opinion" on any issue should be fine, but the differences in opinion shouldn't equate to labeling someone a "bad mother").

I'm not even a mum yet and it pisses me off. When I do have children I will probably avoid posting pictures of them on social media for that reason. If a child is at obvious risk such as no bike helmet or carseat not correctly fixed then I'd probably message the parent privately and say to them politely, if I knew them but most other things that they complain about is trivial. The whole pacifier thing annoys me, some children love them other children don't, as long as the child isn't using it while leaving to go to college, I don't care.

I have found in the 11 years I've worked in fast food that snobby judgemental mother's that like to look down their noses at other mother's are often the ones with children that miss behave and then they do nothing about it but will comment on other children's behaviour.

Anyone else see Jessas long winded post about Spurgeon vacuuming? Ugh it just rubbed me the wrong way, feel like she's trying so hard to give "down to earth" parenting advice and she just is coming  off Pretentiously. She had one post about her dirty house that everyone responded well to and she clinging on to it.

Jessa will soon begin to realize that nobody cares anymore how many children she adds to the brood.

The thing is though people do care for some reason she gets tons of likes and comments. Sure there are leg humpers but there's also plenty of normal people. I know a ton of people who folllw them on instragram and watch the show that are normal people and think they're just a cute family.

I just looked and there's 566,658 views and 1,210 coments on that vacuum post

It will all peter out eventually. All sorts of idiots on Instagram get a zillion comments. But it's hard to have staying power.

How exciting is it going to be that she is having baby #5 or 6? I mean, really, what's there to say?

I also find Ivy to be one of the least cute Duggar babies, TBH, maybe I'm going to hell but let's be honest, not all kids/babies are cute or even equally cute.

I thought Henry was kind of lumpy and meh for the first few months but he's pretty adorable now... a lot of really young babies just don't have a lot of expression or hair or feature definition going on yet.

... she labored for a short while at home and the baby came out on the couch, bed, floor, chair, toilet
... she had a short labor and easy birth but had to be transferred to the hospital via ambulance for hemorrhage, thanks everyone for your prayers
... she was just so *surprised* to get pregnant with this baby (oops, that belongs to Erin. Oh well)
... she has chosen Meredith to be the cousin-mom
... whatever they say, we still won't know where/if Ben works or what he does
... she let Spurgeon name the baby
... Mr. Wilson built quadruple bunk beds with trundles for them

Still LOTS of exciting stuff to talk about for #5, 6 and beyond
