Fundies Facebook and Fake persecution

Ok I will say it:. I do.not.use.social.media.to.prosletyze.  I am on Facebook to see your kids, cats, dogs, partners, cool stuff you are doing and keep up with neighborhood events.  The fundies I know seem to think their Facebook page is a missionary moment.  Which is vaguely amusing and sad at the same time.  My friends honestly don't do this but fundies I sort of know do.  Then they bitch and moan about persecution when questioned or when their millionth abortion post actually hurts a friend.  

I have LDS returned missionary friends who don't do that.  And frankly I have a hard time not slapping them silly.  Am I wrong?  ?

@Soulhuntress, I just block all the posts I don’t like, and adjust the settings on family members so I’m just short of blocking them altogether.

It's the saccharine fake inspirational quotes and "heartwarming true stories" of "real life miracles" written by hack writers that drive me nuts. I had a relative who used to chain email those things to me until I sent one back with a Google books citation asking her why she didn't credit the real author and his book instead of allowing plagiarism to continue. Now everyone just posts that stuff to FB.

Or the ones that say "Share if you really love Jesus. Sadly, most won't."

On the flip side, I know someone who is an evangelist for atheism. Think of the most enthusiastic missionary or salesman you ever met. This person is it - for atheism.  Wants to convert everyone to their belief system. Brings it up every conversation. Can't stop talking about how wonderful life is as an atheist and why you should be too. I always hope it makes the evangelicals think about how they are perceived with their proselytizing.

The abortion situation has brought out some real nasty. One woman I sorta know ( I lurk on her FB. Because anti vaxx, flat earth and general southern Baptist NC fuckery) has been posting all these stories about rape and keeping the baby. Like, really going there. It pisses me off.  Of course a woman has the right to not abort a pregnancy due to rape or incest ( she's mentioning both).  That's the point, dumbass.  A choice. She's acting like abortion is being forced on rape survivors who conceive.  Not one damn mention of the rapist being punished or held accountable. Just, have the baby no matter what. All on the woman. I support a girl or woman in that situation no matter what she decides.  But, it is her decision.  Period. 

This though. Great point. Scary too.

This is what is getting to me.  And when not if these fuckwits decide to go after birth control (because an IUD is an abortion too dontchaknow).  They piss me off even more when they virtue signal and lie about how all lives matter (except criminals, POC, poor people and rape victims).  If all lives matter, Medicare expansion should be a no-brainer.  And well I don't need to preach to the choir.

Oh yes. I have one friend who converted to Catholicism and then headed over to the fundie side of that who is posting non-stop memes. Mostly I keep hiding her feed, but every so often one gets through and I have to walk away and decide if I want to respond or (more usually) not. On many issues she's on the socially progressive side, but this and some of the more sectarian quotes she's posted have really gotten to me (and seriously, I did not know I had sectarian triggers until she started.)

An acquaintance I have mentioned elsewhere on FJ (anti-vaxx idiot) went there with the abortion topic the other day.  And dared to say that foster care was a "good option" for a baby conceived through rape.  EXCUSE ME?  Do you know ANYTHING about the current state of foster care in the US?  Unbelievable.  And when friends call her on her bullshit, she always responds with some sickly-sweet "I'm so glad we can have these hard discussions on FB (smiley face)."  Barf.

From what I've personally seen online in my circles, the people crowing the loudest about the HEARTBEAT BAYBEEZ are white women who have the exact number of children they desire and are in stable marriages and can afford to feed and house them.  IOW, they don't have a fucking clue how they would deal with an actual crisis pregnancy.

This morning I discovered, by accident, that a cousin had unfriended me on FB. No doubt bc I am too liberal and occasionally call out the worst of his brother's meme's (the ones that are so grossly misinformed and flat out lies). Today when I discovered the unfriending, it was bc the he & others in the family had a thread going on and on about abortion in New York and all the endless murdering of babies that's taking place there. ? I had to walk away. Between the claims of endless babies being murdered in NY and the cries of "vaccines are cannibalism because they are made from aborted babies!!!!!!!!!", I am pretty sure I am going to have to close down my social media.
