Aw, it's a shame Razing Ruth was outed as a fraud. She could have coyly alluded to being the fiancee that got away.

Actually I remember the ex-fiancee's name so Ruth couldn't have gotten away with it.  I chose not to identify her this time because she had the sense to break up with the Darnell creep.  Protecting the innocent and all that.

Good call.

Ok, let's see if I can phrase this carefully. One person I know actually was part of a bar study group with Darnell, I think after he had already failed the bar at least once.

It seems it is very hard to study with someone who is sure he already knows all the answers, even if that someone keeps failing the bar. Anyway, a bunch of his stuff went missing and he had to scout all over the apartment looking for it, missing part of the study session and not finding it all before he had to leave. He was furious, something he considered lucky didn't turn up.

Several of the people I know hate followed him through that Theonomy group until it went private. They still talk about what a racist misogynist he is and everyone was relieved when his engagement fell through.

I personally knew his ex-fiancée and I am so happy she escaped. It looks like she has a decently normal and non-fundie marriage now. I read God’s Harvard back in high school, and unfortunately Farris’ plan seems to be working ?

Thanks for the reminder @punkiepie.  Another morsel of info on N. Darnell:

  • A graduate of Oak Bridge School of Law (IBLP connected), Natty tried and failed to pass the CA Bar exam.  Three times.

And it was rather mean of me to find that funny.

Me too.  Perhaps we should open a new thread on Hammer.  Or reactivate the old one in the archives.  I see it just got updated.  @hoipolloi or other Helpmeets, I can't remember how that all works.  Help!

Just go ahead and start a new thread on Hammer.  You can include this link, of course.  It will index better if it's a new thread ;)

I had no idea that Oakbrook was IBLP.  The formal title is Oakbrook College of Law and Government Policy, which gives you some idea of what they expect their graduates to be influencing.

Gothard had an obsession with gathering supporters in government possessions. He, like most of the fundie evangelicals, knew that to create the world they wanted they needed to take over the government. What we are seeing in America now is something they have been working on for a long time.

I've been aware of pervasive fundy influence in general terms, but with the advent of Trump I fear the coup is complete.  Bill Barr + Hannity on Fox has put me in a very, very dark place this morning relative to the future of my country.  I'll snap out of it at some point, but....sheesh.

YES, this!

OK so nerd  moment, but way back when I stumbled upon FJ after feeding a friends pets while they were gone and finding a Vision Forum catalog in their mail, I made an association matrix of fundies. It was Tea Party central back then. Anyway, the connections from way out there Theonomist to mainstream GOP were there, then. In like 2004.

And here we we are all, in Handmaids Tale central, in 2019.

A long time indeed.

IIRC, only CA allows graduates from online law schools to take and pass the Bar.  All the other states insist on some face time and practical experience in state, although you can take a few classes on line.

I think if you pass the Bar in CA and practice there a bit you can ask other states for permission to take the Bar exam there.  There is no guarantee that they will let you though.

James Pennington is another Oak Brook grad.  He passed the Bar in CA but, last time I looked, had not passed in TX nor was he practicing there as an attorney.

Yes, Gothard used to speak at the OBCL graduations and there is/was a series of required religious classes in the law course series. They did distance from IBPL after Gothard's fall. There are still a few loyalists in the alumni group.

All the OBCL grads I know are no longer IBLP affiliated and none are constitutional law lawyers.  A few have passed the bar for states other than California. I know of grads who have worked for district attorneys, legal aid, public defenders, big firms, personal injury, solo practices, insurance companies, traffic violations, and many others.

Rachel Dehollander of the Larry Nasser whistleblowing is an OBCL grad, as are some of the people from Recovering Grace.

It's been a long time since we have discussed Darnell properly.

A summary for any new people here.  From memory, this is why N. Darnell made it to the very top of my Most Loathesome Former VF Interns List.  Feel free to correct or add to it everyone.

  • He was even more arrogant than Bradrick!   Hard to believe I know.
  • Persevero!  That cesspit of pseudo-intellectual shit and hate.
  • Rampant Christian Reconstructionism.
  • Almost certainly Kinist, and consorts openly with known Kinists.  That Christian Reconstructionist Facebook group was something else.  I was glad when it went private because it made me gag on a regular basis
  • .He blames victims and supports oppressors at every possible opportunity.
  • When the Tool Fell, Natty Rebuked and Chastised everyone who was speaking out for the sin of UnGodly Gossip on social media.  The whole thing should have been handled by Matthew 18 methods, if you please.
  • And anyway, Doug was just tempted like King David.  It was all Lourdes's fault.

Re. marriage: Darnell was rumored to have sniffed around the Botkinettes and been turned down flat.  I don't know whether that was true but it sounds plausible.  He was engaged once but it didn't work out.  The young lady missed a bullet, in more ways than one.

There is a lot of self-hatred going on with Natty too, IMO.  I think he has a lot in common with Nathan Axmann so I hope he doesn't ever marry a woman.  VF brainwashing must have been hell for anyone who isn't cis and straight.

He did in fact pursue the Botkinettes and was very clear: either would do. Apparently when pressured to choose be chose the wrong one, as one liked him and one did not and he was not particular enough to choose either so he lost both. He has since pursued at least 3 others — one who rejected his ardent advances and ended up having to change her number and address because “no” repeatedly wasn’t good enough for him and the other left after he drank heavily at a “familys meeting each other” dinner and refused to allow her to drive home after. So far no girl actually gets past his demands for a quick relationship ending in marriage .....

Yeah. Kim Kardashian is trying to become a lawyer this way. Apparently a degree isn't even required. She is just going to challenge the test if or when she gets her required apprenticing  hours.

https://www.cnbc.com/2019/04/17/how-kim-kardashian-can-become-a-lawyer-without-getting-a-law-degree.html

I couldn't come by any statistics on how likely one is to pass the CA bar without any degree. But these are the 2018 numbers. I guess no degree or associate degree are in the 'others.'

whooo boy, didn't see that coming.  This man should not be married and I'm glad women have so far avoided him like the plague....and this in a religious sub-culture where he should be regarded as quite the catch.

refresh me -- what does he do to keep the lights on?  Is he the guy that is a pilot?

Read his GAGOP letter. It's fun trying to watch someone explain being both a Tea Party supporter and a Trump supporter.

He sells insurance. It’s said he bullies people into buying policies. Awhile back on his FB he took a very enthusiastic (and giddy smile) selfie with a tear-stained older woman whose husband had just died because he was able to pay out a life insurance claim. ??‍♀️

The brother’s wife left him. He tried at first to make it look like he left her because she was not submissive or Christian or something, but then he changed the story so he looked like the victim. Within months of the divorce starting he pursued the VF groupie whose mother on Facebook is friends with Bealle and Bradrick!

You can review two dreadful and confused YouTube videos...... of course, as always with anything VF / IBLP they claim to be the end all gospel of truth on the topic: “biblical divorce and separation.” lol

Oh and he must do quite well at the bullying/selling — he got to take his mommy on a cruise he won from the company. His Facebook is a treasure trove of pretentious weirdness.

There is no way an OakBrook grad could pass the CA bar. It is a two day nightmare.

Most states have reciprocal bar so they will accept CA’s results. Frankly, CA is more stringent with its exams so someone who can pass that bar has an excellent chance of doing well elsewhere.

@Leftitinmysnood legal aids are hiring Oakbrook grads? How does that work? I work at legal aid. An Oakbrook grad would get passed over immediately. Our lawyers come from schools like Harvard, Duke, Yale, Emory and typically that level. We have a few from lower tier schools but there is typically a reason such as money or schedule that put them there. What legal aids? Not only does legal aid usually attract a very specific type of lawyer intellectually, it usually attracts extremely left wing lawyers.

I know rural justice gap issues have left civil legal aids with some issues but I cannot image anyone in our sphere hiring an Oakbrook grad!

I hate to break the news to you my dear, but some do.  Actually, if you look at the OBSOL website, their pass rate for the CA bar is very high.  They must be doing something right.

See James Pennington (of identity abuse and Alecia Faith fame) the sovereign citizen accountant.  The one who specialises in tax resistance evasion, and possibly cooked some of DPIAT's books at VF.  I can't prove that last one but suspect it.

However, along with the crowd at RG, I expect we could dig up quite a few more Oak Brook graduate attorneys and legal aides who are very respectable and non-Fundie.
