Mortons 2: Fascist Theocratic Scum with a MAGA Hat on Top

Y'ALL.

Sweet (seeming), dim (definitely) Martha has an insta post today with a picture of "diverse" (two are darker-skinned, one is seemingly Asian) babies for "population day".  ?‍♀️  Highlights from her caption include:

* "Life! ?That sounds like a wonderful thing to celebrate!"

*efforts to limit population growth make her sad.

* "This world of ours is plenty big! (They say that all of us could fit in New Zealand.)" [source not cited, sounds vaguely Ken Ham-ish]

* "hoarding" [no definition given] makes baby Jesus sad.

* Bible quote:  “ Be fruitful and multiply, fill the earth and subdue it!”

* Analysis of above Bible quote: "He loves life, y’all! He loves people, He loves us!? So here’s to celebrating life! And to every one of us, You are loved and wanted!? Jesus loves you so much!" [random capitalizations hers]

* attempt at a snarky joke (? I'm guessing):  "~ and there’s plenty of room guys!?~"

* she's hip to the hashtag life:
"#populationday #LovingLife #wanted #Loved #CelebratingLife #theresroomforallofus"

I understand Martha is dealing with infertility but damn. There are a shit ton of people that shouldn’t have more kids. For many reasons.

So Martha thinks people like me who have chosen not to have children are selfish hoarders. Well I think that she and the rest of her fundy ilk are not just selfish but mean  spirited to boot. They refuse to do anything to help or save the environment or any other species (including other humans)  other than their own family. On the other hand: I volunteer and donate and in the course of my work have saved more lives and helped more people than sweet little "Marth" ever will - even though I don't have children. Time will tell which one of us is right but it will be her child that has to deal with all the horrific results of climate change and over population.

As she rambles about being fruitful & multiplying and how the whole world can fit in New Zealand, I'd bet my dinner that she/they stand firmly behind tRump's "we're full" statement regarding asylum seekers.

Yes, dear Martha, the world really is big. There are still A LOT of unpopulated and fertile lands that can support the growing amount of God's children who wish to multiply like the Mortons do. Like, Antarctica, for example. Or Greenland.

"Subdue the earth"! How apropos.

Population Day is apparently a UN thing, meant to promote a resolution that intends to make family planning services available-- not mandatory, just available-- worldwide. The truth is that the global fertility rate is declining not because of secularism or anything but because when offered the choice between having a kid each year starting when you're still a teenager and maybe dying in childbirth, or having 2 or 3 kids when you decide to do so, the vast majority of women across cultures and continents will pick the latter. And the women who don't have that choice are too often living in cities where water supplies are drying up and there is a shortage of decent housing and sanitation and medical care. Imagine thinking that a woman in a Chennai slum is selfish for wanting some modicum of control over her health and living situation.

A bunch of Mortons are in my hometown for abortion protesting all week. I am trying to figure out a night I can go counter protest because they are not welcome here. Moat of their meeting are in the zoo conference center where, conveniently, admission to the zoo is needed to get near them.

I believe the Johnston’s, Metzgers, Campanas, and Thomases are there too. Well at least some of each family. It’s their annual summer abortion protest reunion.

Such fun family times! Let's all get together and have some bbq, campfire singing, sightseeing, and meeting friends. Oh yeah, and screaming at Planned Parenthood clinics, harassing women and workers entering those clinics, and on top of it all let's give little kids some banners with fake pictures of aborted fetuses.

I hate these people so much.

So you know how the ATI fundies have big sandy every year? This is the abortion obsessed fundies’ big sandy. This is when they all get together, socialize, pray, and harass people for a week every summer. This is how most of them socialize. The kids are homeschooled and isolated most of the time so I’m sure they love going to the big anti choice fest every summer so they can see their friends.

It looks like Josiah Thomas decided to ask Mariah Campana to marry him at the anti abortion fest since this is likely where they first met when they were children. How romantic!

I will never understand how they have twisted protesting abortion into an event. An event that makes a meaningful proposal. The WTF-ery is pretty high. The mental gymnastics of anti-choice fundies astounds me at each turn.

They really do think it’s this big noble event. Like they are saving lives and making great changes.

While I am thrilled that these anti-choice fundies don't usually become outright violent in the name of saving babies, I wonder how they justify that. I mean if abortion is literal murder of babies, wouldn't some level of violence be justified on the level of saving an innocent life, much like a woman is justified in shooting/beating a man who is attempting to kidnap her? Anyone? Anyone? Bueller? Bueller?

FTFY

Oh, but they do! Not the Mortons, specifically, but according to a 2010 report for the National Bureau of Economic Research, there have been plenty of others willing to commit violence in the name of the unborn (source: https://www.cnn.com/2015/11/30/us/anti-abortion-violence/index.html):

• Dr. David Gunn was shot and killed in Pensacola, Florida, by a gunman who was against abortion in March 1993.

• Dr. John Bayard Britton and his volunteer security escort, James H. Barrett, were shot and killed in front of a Pensacola clinic in July 1994.

• Clinic employees Shannon Lowney and Lee Ann Nichols were shot and killed in Brookline, Massachusetts, in December 1994.

• Off-duty police Officer Robert Sanderson was killed in the bombing of a clinic in Birmingham, Alabama, in January 1998.

• A sniper killed Dr. Barnett Slepian in Amherst, New York, in October 1998. The 51-year-old physician had been the target of anti-abortion protesters since the 1980s.

• An anti-abortion gunman killed 67-year-old George Tiller in a Wichita, Kansas, church in 2009. Tiller was one of the few U.S. physicians who performed late-term abortions.

Since 1976 there have also been more than 200 bombings and arson attacks at facilities that offer abortion services.

You might say that the one minuscule bright spot in all the anti-choice legislation is that there are fewer people getting killed for providing services that women will always need and obtain one way or another.

The particular abortion provider in Charlotte NC where a lot of them congregate needs tons of security. Police are there all the time because there are so many protesters and counter protesters screaming and crossing boundary lines that they aren’t allowed to cross. It’s ridiculous. It’s such a huge waste of time, money and resources. But these assholes can’t stop themselves.

I apologize for making it sound like there isn't violence against women's clinics when there very much is. I just wondered how our fundies view these violent what I might call terrorist attacks in their inner mind. Do any of the more extreme ones privately justify it to themselves? Pretend it doesn't really happen and that abortion providers are really the violent ones? It's something that has puzzled me for a while.

Would a better phrase of choice for these people that claim to be pro-life be "selectively pro-life"?

Also, consider me surprised and yet not surprised that this is where a fundie proposal might take place, especially a Thomas/Campana proposal. The number one things that these kids or better yet, their parents look for in a potential spouse are 1. they're Christian and 2. willing to have as many children as possible. So, what better place than at an anti-abortion festival where it's full of nothing but like-minded people that can circle the wagons as tightly as possible?

At any other venue, if Josiah tried that swoon-worthy proposal on stage that some girls dream of, he might get harassed by (gasp!) a pro-choicer that presents Mariah with the possibility of only having two children due to the miracle of (gasp!) birth control, often provided by none other than (gasp!) Planned Parenthood.

The only other truly safe place in his mind was probably one of their homes.

The Activist Mommy (Elizabeth Johnston, a big player in the OSA crew) and her husband have published blog posts in the past arguing for violence against abortion providers. They've tried to scrub it from the web but I see no evidence that they've actually changed their beliefs.

I’m sure most of their families and friends were there. So it was probably the best place to propose where so many of their loved ones are in one place.

I’ve secretly wondered if Charity or Anna set their sights on Josiah. Now the only single Thomas left is Valiant. He’s a redhead so they would likely produce a litter of redheads to parade around abortion protests.

If you go to Rusty or Kendra Thomas's fb you can see a video of the proposal. They were both on stage singing at some sort meeting when he asked.
