Josh, Anna, the M' kids Part 20: Girl Needs Some Serious Therapy

Apologies if someone else said this--I didn't see it yet.

The threat to shave the victim's hair, if that is true, is especially abominable to me because I would think that would be a strong deterrent for a godly fundie maiden to ever report a sexual crime.  If I am a GFM and had been taught my whole life that my hair is one of the most important signs of my femininity, the idea that it might be shaved off would make me feel like a criminal instead of a victim.  Why would you ever report a crime if you had this as a threat?

Took a browse through Anna’s twitter and just.... wow. I feel like I need to take a shower to get all the hateful residue off of me. It’s always freshly amazing to see the dark hatefulness that their thin veneer of “sweetness” is covering. I feel soiled from reading it....

Wait, you don’t think that links to articles using Bible verses to justify the separation of migrant families in concentration camps* are simply adorable?

*(because abortion is the REAL child separation we should be mad about, obviously)

Of course it justifies it!  I mean she used a nochildexploitation hashtag ...it doesn’t get any more legit than that.

and if you think for one second she was exploiting the actual living kids suffering horrific conditions right now to make her political point then you clearly don’t understand the wisdom of Anna Duggar.

Did anyone catch the “man of my dreams” comment she made?

Freddy Krueger was a man in peoples dreams too, dumbass.  You don’t have to marry him.

This is so disgusting. I gotta admit, all the sympathy I had for Anna due to her upbringing and scandal-ridden marriage to Josh has... evaporated. Gone into thin air, guys... No matter the lack of education or marital fulfillment, this level of willful ignorance and at times even barely concealed glee regarding the suffering of others doesn’t require that much decency. But Anna doesn’t even have the bare minimum. Now that, and I know I’m passing a scathing judgement here, is a sad existence.

I still have sympathy for the losing start she has had in life, and the toxic surroundings that have shaped her into a person who holds beliefs like that. No one deserves that and the world would be a better place if no person had to go through that and then go on to spread that poison further into the world. I repeat, no one deserves that! BUT. My empathy for the absolute bullshit she has had to call a life does not in any way interfere with or negate my rage that she perpetrates this kind of hypocritical, hateful rhetoric against so, so many people. Someone claiming to be as full of the love of Christ as she does should know better, and it’s her shame she doesn’t.

All this to say, I feel (personally) it’s important (for me) to be able to separate having love and compassion even for people I disagree with, from not keeping quiet when their words and actions actively try to harm others. I don’t and will never believe it’s a choice between one or the other, and in fact I think lessening our empathy can make it worse. But so can letting empathy become an excuse for their behaviour.... it’s a veeeeery fine line.

I have a niece that has the same middlename as me and I think that’s awesome.

My husband has not one, not two, but THREE kids that are named after him in some way back in Australia.

He is a good guy, a really good guy, I did marry him after all. But not even I named my kid after him.

I like your take on the matter, @Kayleigh83. While I am disgusted by the contents made on Anna’s twitter account, I am also... shocked would be a tad too much, but let’s call it surprised or startled. I admit I have so far primarily regarded her as a victim but as I look at these messages she posted just during the last few days, I have to reassess my opinion.

Of course I don’t excuse or condone her tough upbringing, being stuck in a trailer home with 15 minutes a week during which she could express her feelings to her parents. I don’t deny that having grown up with a father who gave up a decently paying job to become involved in prison ministry was anything but difficult. I feel deeply sorry for the emotional and physical abuse she must have suffered. I can’t even wrap my head around how her parents could not only endorse the courtship model but marry her off to a guy who had abused girls. That’s all horrible beyond comprehension and I will always feel sorry for her in that regard. I’m even willing to acknowledge (not condone!) the reasons why she chooses to stay with Josh and in the cult despite badly harming her children.

BUT when it comes to messages such as these, I believe she reveals not only how she was raised and what she was taught, she also shows us her true character.

Her cult doesn’t make Anna post this mocking comparison between ACTUAL CHILDREN separated from their parents and embryos. Yes, she was raised to be “pro life” but the way she expresses this sentiment shows not an ounce of empathy. She could frame her message differently, talking about the challenges of motherhood and that it’s still so worthwhile, for instance. That would be untrue for some women but it wouldn’t right out deny worries some of those who want abortions have. Instead, she posts this. That’s all Anna’s very own cruelty.

Many people grow up in shitty situations and with harmful belief systems but they don’t blatantly deny the suffering of others. They don’t pretend some other people’s particular medical needs don’t exist. They don’t make ignorant posts, providing wrong information about medical facilities that offer treatments some women need to survive! They don’t take the plight of children separated from their parents lightly. But Anna does. She shows no empathy. And that’s what caused my rather harsh judgement.

@FluffySnowball I'm not angry at what you posted. Any bullshit that Anna posts regarding abortion gets my blood boiling. For being a woman of god she is the most judgemental, misinformed person. Ugh, no symphothy for her whatever

The man of her dreams molested his sisters and joined a porn site?

Uhhh. Okay, Anna.

The Twitter side is certainly uglier than the Instagram one. Interesting that no one else seems to be using Twitter the way she is... Jessa is posting the same stuff as Instagram, Joy-Anna & Jinger don't really seem to use theirs, and Jill... lol, wait, what?
Jill (June 21): "5 years ago today I married the man of my dreams!!"
Anna (June 23): "11 years ago today I said, “Yes!” to the man of my dreams!"

Methinks you both protest too much...

While I always try to respect other people's beliefs and don't usually get offended with the pro life stuff they post, this pisses me off. Children are dying in the US due to unsanitary conditions and lack of proper medical care in those camps and so called pro life people don't care because they believe that it's the child's parents fault for going to the US in the hope of giving them a better life. I wouldn't even call them pro birth any longer because they don't care about the mistreatment of pregnant women detained at the border.

This is infuriating.   All roads lead to abortion with these people.   The situation at the border is nothing less than a human rights crisis and all they can think to do is take the opportunity to push their agenda.  Babies separated from their parents--Abortion!  Children dying in custody--Abortion! Kids in cages without even a blanket-Abortion!  As if Anna, an uneducated,  sheltered , brainwashed fundy understands anything about complex political/social/economic issues.    Just keep retweeting your conservative drivel because you think it's your ticket to heaven.

Sorry, I take that back--she doesn't have a brain to wash.

@FluffySnowball I can definitely get on board with what you are saying. And that last tweet you captioned was one of the many that really made my skin crawl. It just pisses me off that her upbringing and the circles she runs in now encourage her to be a person who thinks that’s ok. And that this is how she is bringing up her children too. So goddamn much Koolaid the mind reels. But they are rewarded socially for that kind of crap in their world, so on it goes.

Well Anna has something in common with Pickles.  They can both do the impossible and make Derrick look good by comparison.

She doesn’t,  but she doesn’t have to.

isnt it hard wired into most humans to feel compassion for children in need.  To know kids are sick, cold, hungry and without even basic necessities should cause an instinctive caring response but not to her.

Their sufferering is nothing to her, only the unborn matter.

not to overthink this but maybe she can’t bear to face that adults have a responsibility for care to children already here....and that having child after child with a child molester doesn’t make her a saint.

The fact that Anna holds views like this is another reason why their missioncations are so gross. They don’t interact with the locals, they can’t be bothered to learn even a few words or phrases in Spanish, and they think that being white, reactionary, Americans makes them the Chosen People.

Pay attention to the Twitter accounts.  That's where the true ugly shows. See Lawson Bates's Twitter for another example of this.  Never forget that this is a cult and their beliefs are toxic.

On another note Raw Story picked up on InTouch's arranged marriage story. The more the general public learns of the wtfness of this cult, the better.

After being encouraged by their churches and youth activist groups to compare the Holocaust and slavery to abortion, fundies can’t process present-tense atrocity without trivializing it with pointless abortion comparisons.

Anna did this all the time with Ferguson and BLM. So many tweets and retweets like “how can you claim that black lives matter when you aren’t trying to criminalize abortion???”

Yes, every issue has to include abortion when it comes to fundies and other conservatives. Here in mainland UK, Northern Ireland is a different story, while we do have religious groups that oppose abortion and protests do happen their is not a lot of pressure to make abortion illegal the same way it is in the US at the moment.

I went to a Catholic school and we did have occasional religious groups visiting us and one of the groups that helped people who were pregnant and not sure about what to do. They said that while they did advise people to either raise the child themselves or choose adoption, they also recognised that people were still going to choose abortion and continued to offer them any counseling and acknowledged the fact that safe abortions were needed.

Yikes! If Derek and Josh are the men of Jill and Anna's dreams, then I feel sorry for them that all of their dreams are complete nightmares!

I hang out a lot in the political thread and I know that we struggle with this there as well. Anger is not directed toward the poster or what the poster said, but instead toward the complete idiocy that the poster is reporting.

Dear Anna-

Women are more than incubators, and  they also contribute many things to the world beyond children. Unless you want people telling you what you will do with your body, it’s best to allow others to do the same. Because frankly, if your husband’s reproductive rights were up for a vote, many people would vote to end them.
