I guess I am just a special kind of nerd because Piper to me reminds me of a Piper Cub airplane.

That’s why Sarah Palin used it.

Same! My pilot husband proposed the name Piper for both of our girls. It's a nice name, but I did not want our daughter named after an airplane. ?

Yep. First and middle. It's not really spurgeon but I named my son after my father, and not two weeks later, a duggar grandchild was born and gifted with this great name, and I turned into a salty shrew for no reason over it.

You did just have a baby. Pretty much anything can set you off in those first confusing weeks. I remember crying over a sandwich.

Outside of FJ people will not understand why this sucks for you, because they will have no idea what the Duggar grandchildren are named.

Smee:

Does he *actually* have OCD or do you mean he’s a bit pedantic about cleanliness/a neat freak? Not picking on you, but I hate when medical diagnoses are used as slang like that, and then I second-guessed my irritation because maybe you DID mean he has a mental illness and this is one way it affects your life.

I'm not good at quoting from previous threads so I hope I did this right.

He has mild OCD, he was diagnosed when he was young and he has done behavioral therapy and been able to treat symptoms that way.  It really wasn't to much of an issue in our lives as adults, he just has a very particular way of doing things around the house and he likes to have the control to do it himself but he has been able to use stuff he learned in therapy to no obsess over it,  but since having kids he's been struggling a bit again so he's gotten back into a routine with his therapy and it's been helping a lot.

Man is that the truth. Postpartum hormones can make you feel like you’re going insane!

And if it makes anyone feel better, we unintentionally stole first names from second gen Duggar and Bates in-laws - our daughter has one name and if we have a son he’ll have another. I wasn’t about to change the names just because they happened to be shared with such close minded religious zealots because we liked them and they have special meaning for us. If the name was super rare - like if I ever went truly insane and picked Spurgeon (at which point you’d all have to just kill me out of mercy) - then I probably would have changed the name, but most of them have names that are more common and people wouldn't automatically connect to these families.

Looking at the Duggar grandkids so far, only Mack (with the unique spelling), Israel, and Spurgeon have names I’d mostly associate with the Duggars. Of those, most normal people would only associate Spurgeon with them, if they even know his name at all. So for all of you fretting about it, don’t. Not unless you're kid has the same exact first, middle, and last names as that particular kid as well.

Pregnancy/new baby hormones aside, I don’t get why it sucks for any of us personally what they call their children. Same for sharing dates (birthday/anniversary). It’s not as if 99% of us are actually phased by it in real life.... I know most say it in jest but it irritates me when it feels like as if people are bothered for real. ?‍♀️

I assume people are kidding about being upset.  If I’m wrong than TIL, but I imagine why it would matter.

If JD loses this arm wrestle he'll just have to name his daughter Cessna. (or Amelia?)

I get why she named her older son Track, her oldest daughter Bristol, another one Piper, and Willow might be for anything "woods" related.  But Trig?  I can never see her being a math aficianado.

It's Norse for "true," IIRC.

Track, Trig and Bristol's son Tripp are names that sound like a tongue twister when spoke together. I am glad Bristol didn't go for similar sounding names for her daughter's, inadvertently naming her youngest after UK Prime Minister, who introduced a lot of socialist reforms was hilarious though.

I'm super confused as to why they didn't just name Spurgeon Charles. But I guess if they did, people wouldn't ask about the name and they wouldn't be able to explain the 'special meaning'.

I'm leaning toward boy for Threewald… and I see a member of Jim Elliot's ill-fated mission trip was named Theophilus. Theophilus Seewald?

Charlie has always been my favorite boys name! My grandpa who I adored was named Charlie so I definitely would have named a son after him if I ever would have had one.

Amelia would be a great name for 2 people who love flying, travel, and  who had aviation has a wedding theme. Amelia Duggar. Come on Joe and Abbie, just do it

The only name that sticks out to me as Duggar is Spurgeon. I've heard all of the other names to other kids, so they don't automatically jump out at me.

Meredith is one of my top girl names - I'd still use it, even though Meredith Grace Duggar exists. Meh. Majority of people don't know the Duggar grandchildren names like we on FJ do.

It’s extremely common in my neighborhood. But I’m in Brooklyn. A lot of us are Jewish. Lots of Israels, Yisrael, David, Jacob, etc. Old Testament names, Hebrew names, Yiddish ones. I guess it depends on the area you live in. Although I would be surprised if there’s a second Israel in Arkansas lol not exactly a name that would be common in the Bible Belt.

I still wonder three years on if they are still swinging... but I am now forty so maybe its heading towards menopause and also not liking and being happy with the new physical me since child birth.

I do remember around her second birthday there was a noticeable shift, like a cloud lifting (looking back it was most probably post natal depression).  I think my hormones finally shifted back to normality, The depression was still there but it wasn't as "cloudy, irrational and all consuming" as it had been that i think the hormones influenced.

I know another Israel who lives in Arkansas! My fundie cousin’s wife named her son Israel shortly after she found Jesus. He does not go by Izzy, always Israel. I think it may be catching on among evangelical Christians? ?‍♀️

Seems kind of like the Star of David trend

Does she pronounce Israel like the country or 'Isruhl'?  Asking for a friend.

Well I would say that most southerners pronounce the country as “isruhl” so they’re kind of one and the same. Her accent is actually a little more subtle, so it’s somewhere between isruhl and iz-ree-uhl.
