It certainly looks like a wig, but I don’t think we have ever gotten definite confirmation on that, and certainly not a reason why. Wearing a wig that looks like....hair would completely defeat the purpose of biblically covering your hair.

Orthodox jews do exactly that so it is not unheard of. But in this case if she really wears a wig i dont think its because of religious reasons.

I just don't see how she can work in any medical field. Even if she only worked with the "precious babies", she would still have to interact with the parents--single moms, teen unmarried girls, same sex couples, divorced parents, drug addicts, the list of "less than perfect" people is endless.  What about people who are Muslim? Hindu? Jewish? Would she be able to work with gay couples? Interact, teach them how to care for a sick infant without including a Bible lesson on sin? What about Brandon? Is he comfortable with all the "regular" people his wife will be exposed to? All the different attitudes and lifestyles? What if she becomes more open minded and tolerant? Brandon comes off as rigid in his beliefs. I wonder how he will deal with that?

I don't really think her being disapproving of these people would be an outlier, especially where she is. It's not like the medical field in general is free from bigotry and moralizing. Gay people expect discrimination in red states, especially in more rural areas. I've definitely experienced disapproval and condescension about my sexuality from health professionals, even in NYC. I wouldn't be surprised if Muslims are similarly targeted. I bet drug addicts and teen moms get judgment most times they interact with institutions.

Does anyone know if Michaela has a nursing job yet? Did she ever intend to work outside the home?

We don't know if she has taken her nursing licensing exams yet. She said she had to take the NCLEX exam. I can't tell when that is scheduled, but there may be some info here: https://www.tn.gov/health/health-program-areas/health-professional-boards/nursing-board/nursing-board/applications.html

I think that would depend on where she would work. If she chooses a more rural hospital, the more likely she is to serve people that think like her and her family. Rural areas are usually desperate for doctors, nurses, etc so it could be easier to find a job, too.

And people who think more like how the Bates family do is more common in the medical field then people realize. I have learned that through COVID and all the tweets of people saying that their nurse or other medical professionals have downplayed it to them.

I met a nurse the other day who told me she refused to get the vaccine. I was like, "Hey, I'll take yours!" whilst simultaneously being in awe at her stupidity.

She could always go and work for a midwife or at a birthing center instead of a hospital or private practice

Perhaps she could work with the elderly in a nursing home setting?

That would also be a good idea.

So does this mean she may not get an actual paying job as a nurse?

Since she says “and”, it appears that she means doing both working and volunteering. It would have been better if she put the working first.

She also said in the same Q&A that she took a break while she was in school but is now back to seeing an infertility specialist, and that sharing their struggles publicly was more difficult than she was expecting, so that's why it hasn't been discussed on the show for a while.

I’m glad she felt It was OK to stop sharing when she became uncomfortable doing so.  Hopefully she wasn’t pressured at all.

Why is it better to put working first? Just curious. I suspect the volunteering is the thing that's most important to her, that's why it went first.

Medical volunteering is great, as long as it doesn't come with strings attached.

Eta: Oh god, she's gonna join mediccorps, isn't she?

Since M has never worked as a nurse, she needs to work to get the needed experience, first. (I am a retired nurse).

LOL. MedicCorps is the Duggar/Bates disaster rescue cosplay organization. M’s way ahead of Jana and Laura, who are already members.

That means it should be listed first? I don't understand. I'm not sure why she should say "work" before "volunteer" if her ultimate goal is volunteering with the less fortunate (hopefully not through her brothers' crazy organization)?

I am pretty sure she's not going volunteer under false pretenses, without the necessary credentials. If an organization will have her, what does it matter if she volunteers right out of school? In terms of supervision, I've often had more during volunteer work than I have in a pressure-filled work environment.

Maybe Michaela is not trying to make a lot of money, but wants to help others. Perhaps that's how she justified going into nursing to herself and her family.

I’d agree with you if her volunteer role was something other than nursing related. IMO, if her  #1 goal is to be a volunteer medical worker, she should/could have worded her comment a bit differently. As an example, my primary goal is to be a volunteer medical worker, and first I would like to get some field experience by working in a (fill in the blank.) Perhaps some medical missions provide internships, although I think that would be cost prohibitive-

No need to go back and forth with this. We can agree to disagree.

Michaela was never going to go for a full on career and compete for promotions or the like. While probably a consolation prize of sorts, at least she had the opportunity to study nursing and should the need arise use that certification and those skills. She's in a lot better position to provide for herself should something happen to Brandon and the show. Erin, for example, would find life tough with 1/3 share in a clothing store and teaching piano lessons - same for Carlin.

I'm not surprised by her statement of medical missions. It's something that would be expected of her to say. Like with most things this and similar families say, "I'll believe it when I see it." Brandon doesn't strike me as the type of guy who wants to leave the comforts of home (I'm the same way) to traverse through a third world country at this point in his life. Michaela doesn't seem to want to be far from him for long stretches of time. The idea of her jetting off with Nathan and Lawson and their guns doesn't seem very likely to me. We'll see though.

If Michaela was interested in Medicorps, she would have already joined. She looks too serious to go with the boys and Carlin in what obvioulsly looks like an international excursion for fun. I'm sure Michaela has the same white savior complex than them, but I bet she wouldn't go to a mission just to eat junk food and take pictures. And, considering she has been in a real nursing college, I wonder what does she think about untrained Lawson doing dentist work to children.

In addition, I very much doubt she would travel abroad without her husband.

I think that if she volunteers, it will be in a local place. It may look less thrilling than Haiti or Phillipines, but it isn't worse, local volunteering is also very useful.

The Duggars/Bates do real harm with this organization. It's a scam made to look a real charity with one letter difference. If they take donations, they're no better than Jill R. And they go to real disasters, flash guns and potentially gum up the works for the real rescue workers.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but now that she's passed the exam and there is a nursing shortage in the US--she could get a job, like, tomorrow, right?

I know that employers can’t force current employees to get the covid vaccine, but maybe they can choose not to hire you without it? Maybe Michaela doesn’t want the vaccine and the positions she’s interested in require it. All speculation!

I don’t think she’ll ever seek out a “real” job. It seems too far from how she was raised. Fundie women working full-time?
