Safe at Home 5: Something Happened in Arndtland and It's Finger Lickin' Good!

I only read about the Arndts periodically, but I had a dream about them.  They came to the clinic I work at and booked the provider I run for a solid day.  All annual physicals.  It was insane.

Better them than Bro Gary...

This is my favorite thread, by far, due not to the Arndts but the posters!  This is awesome!

There's also the kind of penguin cam they use to film nature documentaries, but whether the manboys would also accept it into their flock, I don't know.

I’m sure they’re incredibly boring if you just watch them. I agree that once there’s some disturbance in the family - Rick dies, someone marries his pregnant girlfriend, etc. - the Safe at Home spell will be broken.

Nothing major happened, but penultimate Arndt kidult Peter turns 20 today. There is only one teenager and minor left in Arndt land.

They are on a family trip these days - their fb is public. The younger ones have really grown up. The one with the slightly longer curly hair is quite cute.

Luke, from somewhere in Utah:  "We're really enjoying the rocks."

Having traveled quite a bit in Utah and having a sister living there with a distant view of Zion National Park (which are really, really big rocks btw), saying you are enjoying the rocks is the most "meh" description of Utah scenery I can think of.

Maybe #1. Was Ma wearing a romper or are those her white shorts peaking out under a long shirt? This family fascinates me.

Luke was giving off a total "meh" vibe.

As in, I'm 35 and enjoying yet another road trip with the Fam.  Can you see the sadness in my eyes?

Oh, look. David has a net.

It's always white shorts.

Do they have multiple 16-passenger vans, Suburbans or some kind of bus to schlep them around?

They usually take a few vehicles.  I think everyone drives.

Today is Peter's 20th birthday, btw. Love his hair. Given that no other brother has ever grown his hair out, it seems slightly subversive.

I'll speculate that Kathy cuts all the hair and has scissors and shears.

And my GOSH that's a lot of men. No, SRSLY, that song about It's Raining Men? Well, it's raining Arndt men.

Ok, the Ardnts have always been freaky, but the stream of adult men with the eldest few entering middle age is even creepier than the lineup of little boys. Mary Elizabeth must live the strangest life.
And none of those hats are interesting.

I can’t remember- have we had anyone come here that knows the family in real life and give some sort of insight, ever? Surely they have extended family or something. They are so oddly fascinating.

At least Wizzy isn’t forced to wear the white shorts all the time. Jean shorts are a very normal article of clothing for a girl her age.

I just wonder what other tourist they encounter think.

I also wonder if they walk eleven boys and Wizzy in two straight lines just like in the Madeline books.

Well, not surprising that it was insane. That's a LOT of prostate exams.

And it's meta Arndt that they are taking a family vacation.  No, SRSLY, all of them, all grown adult men, and they are vacationing together, as a ********* family with zero spouses.  It's the Arndt family monastery.

Could three or four of the brothers take an adventure vacation doing exciting testosterone fueled brother stuff?  Rafting a white water river? Mountain biking in Moab? Backpacking? Climbing a mountain? Oh, hell no!

We're so accustomed to them that it's easy to pass over how beyond bizarre this is.

Idk if she does all of them but I seem to recall a haircutting sequence on one of the Safe at Homes where she was cutting one of the guy's hair.

Agree - it's getting creepier with age.

I was thinking, I couldn't get my kids to line up like that and pose and I only have 3.  Makes me feel kinda bad, but we're not a wacky-hijinks type family.

@Howl While much of the Arndts behavior is wacky/bizarre, there have been mentions of smaller group trips. Months ago, Rick mentioned that a few of the guys were supposed to go to Israel around April, I believe.

From what I can tell the guys have outside friends and do things that aren’t family conglomerated, but we are rarely shown those events. Too off brand is my guess.

Seeing a picture like this really makes it obvious how strange it is that all these men live at home and don't even seem to consider dating or starting their own lives outside the compound.

I love baseball but I'm dreading the new season because the White Sox ownership is THE FUCKING WORST. I watched Dominican League Baseball (Lidom!) over the winter and fell in love with their joy, spirit, and exuberance. The broadcasts were in Spanish and my Spanish is pretty weak but I loved catching phrases and repeating them. Bombe! I'm sad about MLB and Commissioner Idiota's busywork rules. But I love baseball, always and forever.
I guess I don't have a point. Just bitching. Te amo mucho, Lidom!

      Happy International Women's Day!

Humanity may have some work to do, to improve gender equality, but I was glad to hear that France has taken an important step to protect healthcare for women (and people of other genders who can get pregnant).

Feeling ragey this morning. I have a doctor's appointment this afternoon in the hope of getting help for an ongoing injury. I went to a (different!!) doctor late last year who completely blew me off. He wouldn't do diagnostic testin, he refused to send me to a specialist, and he just told me to "take it easy" and "take ibuprofen." I'm hopeful for today's appointment but I'm also feeling a SEVERE amount of rage at that doctor from last year!

Well, the rash is back with a vengeance. It never completely cleared up. I saw the derm yesterday and they did another swab and yup, raging infection again, still? It is definitely strep skin infection. I am getting so damn tired and run down from this. Who the f would immagine being hospitalized freaking TWICE for a rash?

My niece is going to be a seat filler at this year's Academy Awards.  Seat fillers are asked to wear tuxedos regardless of sex/gender.  If you see a pretty young woman with very curly hair, it could be my niece.

It’s not supposed to be mosquito season right now but I still appear to have been bitten twice on the side of my foot. Bastards. I know I shouldn’t scratch but it’s so tempting… 😑
