This mindset undermines how much you can learn about someone just by being roommates.  Even work-proximity associates end up knowing a lot about each other.  I had a good personal relationships with my 30+ students, and I didn't see them at meal times, or share a bathroom with them.  Their claim that they get more time with their kids because they home school is obviously bullshit- you can't divide a 24 hour day by 19 kids and come up with a reasonable number.  But when you spread it over months and years they probably get plenty of quantity time.  The quality is what's missing.

The podcast is run by the Freedomists, the same group of jingoist boys with Macklemore hair that Jason(?) and Austin plugged a while back. I guess a number of the howlers are involved with them.

Opens with a message of not telling you what to think, but “encouraging you to think for yourself.” Let’s see how true this is!

Blathering about how important all of their discussion subjects are. Jed is apparently not appearing until after the break.

Super cheesy radio soundbites in their transitions. I feel like I’m in a Family Guy joke.

Female host (sorry, I don’t know any names here) touches on head coach of US women’s soccer team retiring, Mueller report, the new short-term budget deal in a news recap.

Interesting. Around 4:30 or 4:40 male host #1 implies that we need to be consistent about our attitudes toward Obama’s budget decisions and Trump’s, and this seems to be aimed toward Trump supporters. This host is not thrilled about the budget plan and seems to have a Duggar-esq fear of debt.

Never mind! 5:20- they note that the problem is specifically with welfare. Ack. Still, they maintain criticism of Trump.

Male host #2 says pursuing what your heart thinks as a Christian is exactly what the country needs. Lack of education* and lack of responsibility are the biggest issues in this country. Informed, educated, virtuous, “good” people are what this country needs (apparently according to founding fathers/Ben Franklin).

*this host clarifies that education means “understanding principals of freedom, government, and human nature,” so I’m not too excited.

People who don’t understand this give power to the government and we then lose our freedom.

Just so you know, this podcast is a good example of an educational source! 

Hosts are encouraging people to think through issues rather than basing opinions on “emotions” or “talking points.” Don’t be intimidated by books, statistics, and having questions- just go for it and study. I might be up for giving kudos here… maybe.

Female host professionally works alongside “liberal” senators and at first it was scary, but it helped her see them as real people who can connect although they have different principals. People feel sorry for her but she’s actually learning a lot from these lib’ruls.

One of the male hosts thinks that the “this country is going down, who cares” mindset is really unhealthy.

More on “where God leads you is what is right.” I would honestly think this is overall acceptable, non-Trumpian conservativism but for every time they say something based on more universal concepts, they also say something based on GOD TELLS ME THIS.

18:00- Jedidiah Duggar introduced as TV star, political activist, and friend of podcast. Here to encourage people to step up in their community in real, practical ways.

Q: What’s your story? What got you interested in politics and in your community?

A (from Jed): Jed sites his dad and his family. Admits he was “born into it” and dad starting political campaigns before he was born. He and twin were middle of 19 kids and were born into political arena. His dad wasn’t a politician but wanted to see “good people in politics” (gag). Politics come down to constitution, bill of rights, “We the People” and things like that (this is nearly ver batim, so a bit of SOTDRT is showing here). As a preteen, Jed liked helping Bob Ballinger in his campaigns, including for State senate. He says he was on staff, “maybe a secretary” (???).

Back to one of the male hosts, who thinks it’s such a cool example that Jed started political involvement as a 12-13 year old.

Q: Beyond voting, what do you think would be the next easiest step for someone to take to take to get involved in their area?

A (from Jed): Voting is important. Second, go out and talk to reps and senators. Get to know them personally (oh wow, Jed, what normal advice for normal people without TV shows and politically involved parents). Get involved in primary races, not just general elections. States that he’s a republican and recommends going to republican county meetings and asking hard questions to see who you “line up with” in terms of goals and hopes for America. Then, you’ll have a passion to work for them, make phone calls for them, etc. Reiterates getting to know candidates PERSONALLY. Jed goes to them and asks “how can I help you” and says they then just put you in a spot.

I know that we joke about Duggars being D-list celebrities, but this advice just strikes me as super naïve and steeped in the privilege fame has bought him. He really has no idea how to advise normal people on how to get involved in politics. The host may be on to this.

Q: You talk about meeting reps/candidates. Where are some practical ways to meet? How do you take the next step to meeting your candidates?

A (from Jed): Depends on party, but a lot have county meetings. Washington County in Arkansas has monthly republican ones, which Jed has been to “a couple” of. There are nonpartisan options too. US senators/congressmen are people you may NOT get to know, but talking to staff and asking about their principles helps. Also, look at their website to get to know them!

Q: How important are local elections/politics at the State/National level? President Trump and DC are "in peoples’ hearts and minds."

A (from Jed): Local politics are as important as national politics. State reps, state senators, Governer and Lt Governor are important roles in Arkansas. Some liberal laws are passed in some states, some conservative, and Jed wonders what makes them different? (??? What?). Some say its just due the atmosphere in any given state, but a lot comes down to those in power. Let’s talk abortion as an example now! (this should definitely be a bingo square). Jed frames the sides as “abortion versus pro-life.” Christians with a heart for the pro-life side aren’t getting involved enough. You can take these issues to the school board (???), mayor, etc. Jed doesn’t know if this answers the question, but “these things kind of run together.”

Host: emphasizing “local” is part of a government “for the people.” Power tends to get sucked into the federal government.

Jed: has a friend who saw some things in the school board he didn’t like, decided to run for a seat on school board, won “I think by a landslide” and it’s a battle now for him, but he simply just ran. People need to step out in simple ways to make a difference for the community.

Q: What would you say to someone who’s interested in getting involved to encourage them?

A (from Jed): Just step out there. You may not be that eloquent – “I’m not that eloquent!” (very charming, Jed). He used to hate door-knocking and making calls. It “got to him” because he had to step out of his shell. But we need to do that to make a difference for the country. Should get to know senators, legislators (keeps coming back to this). Also, run. We need young legislators ***who know what they believe and have principles to stand on***. If you step out, don’t be shy, then you can “be used” in great ways. Meeting people like blue collar workers who MAKE AMERICA GREAT was apparently outside of Jed’s comfort zone. He helped a small town that had been hit by a tornado, and it gave him a “heart” for that town. All because he went out of his comfort zone. Also, he “stands on principles.” Just to be clear.

Host: if we have spare time, instead of watching Netflix, we should get out there and make a difference!

36:30- this is the end of the interview with Jed. They’re wrapping up episode with fun time and cute jokes about how conservatives aren’t fun and Mitch McConnell never smiles (guys: we’re not mad about smiles, we’re mad about taking away hard-earned and absolutely deserved human rights)

They’re doing fortune cookie predictions! Female host talks about how she bakes fortune cookies. Jed asks about whether she gets the papers into the cookies (he didn’t burst into flames due to discussing ungodly worldly fortunes). They’re being snarky about how they’re pre-made factory sayings and not REAL fortune-telling… way to mental gymnastics yourself into enjoying life like the rest of us while being holier-than-thou fundies, guys.

Anyway, they’re going to read fortunes and decide what candidate they applies to.

Fortune: “A person is never too old to learn.” They all agree: Bernie Sanders! Because he has “one foot in the grave and one on a banana peel” says one host. Hilariously awkward silence follows. Clarification follows: THEY RESPECT OLD PEOPLE.

“A person of words and not deeds is like a garden full of weeds.” Jed thinks Beto O’Rourke. Why? Hesitation… followed by because it sounds like something that would be “eloquent for him to say… and with his hands.” One of the hosts comments that he only has one blue shirt and is famous for running against the most unpopular republican in the country.

“An acquaintance of the past will affect you in the future.” Female host: Joe Biden. Everyone laughs. They need to spell out “because he was with… uh… President Obama… so he has that… that history there.” Brilliant. Jed thinks Obama will publicly support Biden after the democratic primary. They think it will destroy Biden’s campaign if Obama doesn’t support him. I wouldn’t be surprised either.

Next fun activity: trivia about weird state laws! Some were on books but removed, some created but never passed, and some are urban myths. It’s somehow supposed to be entertaining even though they don’t really clarify which is which? These are all multiple choice but I’m lazy, sorry.

“In what state was it illegal to carry Ice Cream in your back pocket?” Jed goes Southern and says Georgia and he’s right! Apparently this was law in Georgia and Kentucky.

“In which state is it illegal to ride a bicycle in a swimming pool?” Sidebar about how annoying “cyclers” (omg) are on the road. Jokes about running over them, then circling around as to how it’s an impressive hobby… also while making fun of cycling clothing. Sigh. Anyway, it’s this eye-rolling cyclist’s home state of California.

“The average American does what 22 times per day?” Wtf, this has nothing to do with laws. Answer is opening the fridge. Jed comments about how he has seven refrigerators at home. Very relatable, dude.

I’m sorry, I’m not doing the rest of these in detail, haha. They’re so silly.

All Jed did was regurgitate a lot of content already on their website.  Although some of the advice was good (get involved young, start local), he lacks self-awareness and has a very black-and-white way of looking at things.  So basically, he's just like every other Duggarling who has opened their mouth publicly and spewed Boob's talking points.

Do any of these kids even realize they are invited because of their name and not because they bring value to a conversation?

I’m making the prediction that the next courtship is going to be with Jedidiah. Between the podcast Joy talked about, being the conference director for that conference at Fort Rock, and now a post of being “so sweet” on the family Insta, he seems to be being featured a lot and seems to be the boy with the most potential for a courtship. Purely speculation of course, but it makes the most sense to me.

I think the three oldest Howlers all have 'special friends'...it's just a question of which one goes first, which one marries Lauren Caldwell, and how long they drag it out to maximize the number of episodes.  One of them will announce before the new season starts, because they're almost tapped out on pregnancies.  

I was thinking Jer would be next, but they have been featuring Jed a lot lately...  

Anyone want to start a pool on which J Duggar is going to court next?

I don't know who is going to court next but I know that I'm going to cry when it's one of the Lost girls because that will mean not only is another young virgin being sacrificed to this cult but that I am O-L-D and I've seen someone be born on TV, grow up on TV, get married on TV and finally procreate on TV.

Tonight’s episode was officially new, but it’s Zach and Whitney’s vow renewal, which hardly feels new. But UP is being considerate by not airing the pregnancy reveal for the baby they lost until they’re well along in a new pregnancy.

There is a YouTuber/ other business personality Jordan Page who just announced her 7th pregnancy today. In the reaction video, her oldest child says “it’s going to be so much work for me”. I feel like this was probably a Duggar child reaction at some point

My oldest daughter will have an rarer spelling of her first name, a common name, for cultural reasons.  The pronunciation is only rarer in the west.  I also have a name with a less common spelling, but mine is the original spelling and my name has many, many variants (many spellings, two pronunciations I've heard).

Is almost September, do you think we could arrive to Nov and the birth of the 3 Duggar girl without any new announce? I know that Amy is due in October, but she isn't on the show and she is not so interesting I think for the fans. I don't know I just don't think we could have another two months of relative dull.

What do you think? Same for the Bates even if there there is at least a probable courtship announce to be made  as the new season start (Trace and Chaney)
