How do the Duggar daughters do their hair?

Daenerys

Something I have always wondered: until I came on here, I totally believed that it was natural because it seems to be done really well and with the four girls and J'Chelle it just looks like they inherited it. It must take a really long time to do so many small curls, and I wonder how they find the time to do that in between all their slave duties.

I always thought they "scrunched" their hair. People with somewhat curly hair can put product in it when it's wet and kind of scrunch it up with their hands and then put spray or gel in it to hold their hair very curly.

I really don't know, though. I'm far from a hair expert! I have straight-ish hair that I do almost literally nothing to--I wash it, sleep on it wet, then brush it and put it up in a bun/ponytail/whatever in the morning.

In one of the episodes from the first season (probably on youtube) they talk about how they do their home perms. They also mention that Jessa's curl is natural.

I don't know about the J-slaves, but I would love to get my hands on J'chele's head and move her hair into the 21st century. I have not known anyone to rock a frizzy mullet like that since I was in college thirty years ago.

I think they said they all have perms. They do their hair a certain way because it's what "daddy likes" :puke-front:

More like- It's what Gothard has decreed.

http://www.religiondispatches.org/archi ... ubculture/

Gothard ... demanded that girls style their hair wavy—not straight or curly—because “wavy hair is attractive and becoming—it causes you to focus on the woman’s face instead of her body.†Gothard’s approved wavy hairstyle is meant, she said, “to attract men to your bright eyes, which will attract them to God, instead of your body.â€

I seem to remember that Joy did have the wavy hair once but I only saw it in one episode and it probably wasn't a proper perm.

Perm section on youtube: http://youtu.be/gRfr4XR-Iks

And once again I notice something, almost a Duggar urban legend: I've read in several places Jill's specific quote, "Daddy likes it."

The actual quote from the show is "My dad likes long hair, and so we've tried to keep our hair long."

Is the actual content just as squicky? Sure. But I'm a stickler for accuracy, and the use of the word 'Daddy' gives it an extra 'ew' that in this case wasn't actually present.

I hate to keep correcting this, but Jessa has naturally WAVY hair that she perms on top of it. They also do the long ringlet crap, Jinger appears to perm and scrunch; it's been her signature for a couple of years now. The others either allow the perms to grow out and flatiron on occasion; I've seen all 3 of the oldest have scrunchy perm hair one day and dead straight hair the next.

This seems to be a big to-do with them. Remember the episode when Jackson tried to collect their laundry and Jessa basically slammed a door in is face? Michelle commented that the girls weren't camera-ready. So for me, that blew all their talk about modesty out of the water; I'm at best a deist and will go out without makeup or perfect hair (but I have an odd wave at the ends of my hair that forces me to blowdry it into otherwise straight submission.

As for Michelle, looking at older pics of her, she has thick hair, naturally wavy that she perms into those stupid ringlets. It's too kinky to say she uses the curling iron ringlets, except on very special occasions...errr...paid speaking engagements.

Their hair drives me nuts.. it always looks so greasy. I just want to scrub their heads until their hair looks clean and shiny.

It may be. I would be surprised if, in a house full of that many people, everyone gets to shampoo their hair every day. (I don't know how many bathrooms/showers they have).

nothing like follow a guy who lived with his mother his whole life on hair care. Daddy likes it because gothard likes it and that's downright scary.

I used to have permed hair in the 80s, and I did the whole scrunching thing. I don't think I have used the word 'scrunch' for 25 years, and it is what I did every day.....

Back in the early specials Michelle's hair looked much, much, worse than it does now (which isn't saying it looks good). I'm sure that even with all the showers they have it is still hard to get clean (especially with all the traveling now). The outfits have definitely improved though....no more prairie jumpers I guess.

They all have great hair. Too bad they don't even keep the ends trimmed nicely. They would look great in long layered cuts, but I would be happy w/ just trimming off those straggly ends.

I have to give Anna props for (recently) having very nice hair cuts.

I think Michelle's hair usually looks "alright" when they're out and about. It's in the interviews when she's got the weird crown on her head with the intentional ringlets that I make this face >.<

I am also frequently distracted by the special shade of orange bronzer, which to me is a bigger sin than the hair at this point.

I wonder if way back when Jill explained the curls if she knew they were doing it because of Gothard, and I wonder if now if she knows that now. (My guess is probably not then and definitely now.)

I wonder why Anna hasn't ever embraced their love of the faux curl? IIRC, didn't she have a growing out perm when she first started appearing on the show? I just don't remember it ever being curly after she married Joshy. But I have seen her whip out that flat iron...

      Stupid loneliness!
Kid 1 went back to college (yeah! But sad foe me, she stayed with me all summer. It was nice to start a new phase in our mother/daughter relationship)
Zero prospects on dates. (Not that I have tried online dating, scared of that but I have reached put to a new group at church, etc.
I asked a friend to go to dinner the other night so I wasn't eating alone, again. The friend had plans, all my friends always have plans. I see stuff on social media, I'm never invited. I'm single, I'm the 3rd or 5th wheel.
My one parent friend at kid 2's fall sport won't be there because their daughter made varsity (Yeah for her!!! Seriously happy for her. Sad for me for another sport I basically sit alone, did that majority of spring and summer sporting events.)
And now I'm crying as my mom told me 2 different funny stores that former teachers remembered about my twin. Both stories were about how they got a crack out of my twin's antics (my parents went to a funeral today and saw former colleagues). Teachers remember me (after all I was a twin and teachers' kid) but none would have memorable stories of me.
      I feel invisible.
Don't worry, this will pass,  it always does. I just need a pity party for a few days. I'm not in anyway going to harm myself. As lonely as I am, I have a very full life I (usually) love. I just needed to vent and cry for a moment.
If you are still reading this, thanks Fjer. 😊

Absolutely awful about the fires on Maui. In 2019, I stayed in Lahaina. I liked to sit on the sea wall, which is the only structure left now, and watch the water. People are receiving help, but many had to leave pets. Please donate to the Maui Humane Society, which is leading efforts to find, treat, and reunite pets.
