and what are you doing Lori? You waste hours a day “researching” and learn nothing.

So maybe these bored ladies should get a job !

I couldn’t pick a favorite between those and “hunt for lost pets and collect rewards”. But you’re right, don’t want to draw too much attention to her so we can enjoy the ride until it gets deleted and blocked.

Maureen is skillful and certainly makes me laugh. However, the downside to trolling like this, is that there are vulnerable women out there who might actually believe her.

I mean, I can't believe someone would set up a webcam and search out homebound obese people. But Maureen's trolling still reinforces Lori's stupid message and might keep abused women in their marriage ("Wow, look at all the women who agree with Lori. I must be wrong.")

Believing her would be better than believing Lori Alexander.

Well Lori I guess it’s a good thing you didn’t send your kids to public school. Oh wait never mind.

I had a much better experience with kids from public school then I did with kids from church. Church kids were mean, and most were home schooled, and selfish. Public school taught me to be more excepting of others. It taught me about other beliefs other than my own. During my time their I didn’t cus, smoke, drink, or have sex. My friends all knew I went to church. None of that bothered them. I also didn’t judge them for their actions. Instead I listened to them.

I never believed in god. Public school didn’t take my faith away. It was never there. I spewed out all of the right Christian responses while in public school. I wasn’t indoctrinated either. I was taught morals and what my parents believed from my parents. Learning things different than your beliefs won’t make you change your beliefs even if it proves you beliefs wrong. What causes beliefs to change? People growing, learning, and choosing to accept new beleifs. It’s not an over night thing.

Sending your kids to public school doesn’t mean parents shouldn’t teach their kids or know what they are learning. When I learned about evolution in school my mom told me it was wrong and creation was right. 601AFAAD-F597-4D42-8C99-7AE1551513F8.thumb.jpeg.dd94e62822519f6cfe2e87a4313b2d45.jpeg

@klein_roeschen,  as I posted in Minor Annoyances over in AYTFJ,  our washer bit the dust about a week ago.  My husband and I went shopping for a new washing machine this afternoon at Lowe's.  The one I liked the most was $699, which is $300 off the regular price.  However it would not be delivered for 5 weeks.  The one we ended up buying is basically the same model as the one we're replacing and it's being delivered a week from tomorrow.  Anyway my husband remarked when I mentioned that I might have to go to the laundromat some in the next week that we do have a river about a half mile away.

Oh, good. If he knows where the river is, he won't have any trouble jumping in it!

Well, at least she gives you some useful suggestions, like the one about psychics.

Silly! Public school was *different* then (in some vague, undefined way).

I guess Lori's grandkids will find out about the godless public schools in upstate NY, since that's where Steven and Emily are sending them.

@PennySycamore  I feel for you sister, our old washer broke a few years ago, so I know where you are. We had to wash our stuff for 6 weeks in the tub, until we had enough saved for a used one and the only laundromat in my town is disgusting. But with mentioning the river, is you husband volunteering to do the laundry vintage style ?

So which DIL or daughter is sending their child(ren) to public school, because Lori can’t be normal and talk to them about her concerns, or maybe she knows that they think she’s crazy?  Instead, she has to blast their private business on the internet.

Is Ken in New Orleans? I thought someone mentioned it earlier.

Seriously, I'm beginning to think Lori is a troll. I mean, is she aware that computers  and games on phones are only a relatively recent phenomenon? And WTF is with her saying that women are wasting their time being lonely AND using up time socialising in one sentence? Also, I haven't read the blog post because just her FB post was enough to make me furious.

Loneliness is a very real and emotionally dangerous thing, and Lori's attempt to isolate women further in their homes is damaging and dangerous. I'm very well aware that loneliness is different to choosing to be by yourself (ask me how cranky I get when my partner stays home on a day when I'm looking forward to time by myself). In fact, she's so determined to lock women up that I'm surprised she isn't advocating online grocery shopping. After all, every moment spent away from the home is a sin.

I think the Loribot's battery is starting to run down - hence the incomprehensible rubbish she's been spewing lately.

true. And even if you can teach your kids about godliness it doesn’t mean you can teach them. No one knows everything. Kids need interaction with other kids their age, that aren’t family.

Sometime back an FJer said that Emily commented somewhere on Facebook about possibly sending her children to public schools and IIRC, she is also considering a secular preschool too.

Having a lot of free time is not a tragedy, damn it. Lori Alexander has a very low bar for what makes a tragedy. Probably when her boutique grocery is out of $14.00 butter.

I've been buying my glasses online for a while now with good results. However, the money I save doing that would be a drop on the ocean of medical expenses. There's just no comparison. I also feel more comfortable doing it because I don't have a long term illness that effects my eyes. If there's a child with a medical issue that can harm their eyesight they need to see a doctor. Period.

The kids I went to school with didn't stop believing once they got to high school and had science class, I didn't either. I wasn't as vocal about it as other kids but I didn't believe in evolution either at the time. Plenty of kids wrote papers for anti-abortion, anti- homosexuality, anti-evolution. My English teacher eventually told us that the next person who wrote either for or against those topics was going to probably get a worse grade because she was going insane reading the same thing over and over. My friend at the time did it anyways and low and behold a "B-" in a typical "A" student.

Fundies apparently believe that public schools produce atheist liberals. Given the current political climate and the power of the religious right, this belief is nonsensical. Plenty of people hold onto their faith throughout school and college.

Then again “Christian” has a very narrow definition for fundies. So most Christians are headed straight for hell in a handbasket anyway. (Obviously this isn’t my opinion).

I went all the way through public school. Graduated  and then went to state university for undergrad and grad school. Then taught for a few years at a state university before moving out into the secular corporate world. And here I remain.

You  know what -- in all these years, I haven't lost my faith.  Public school/state schools/secular work world didn't teach me to be an atheist liberal.  Although I will cop to the liberal part, but that was fostered at home  -- Catholic social justice and all.

Lori and her fangirls -- and fundies in general -- are just afraid that if their children go into the world the insanity they've been taught will be revealed as ... well ... insanity.

These fundies are afraid that their teachings won't stick.  If the beliefs are so tenuous that exposure to "the world"  will cause them to crumble then they can't be all that strong to begin with. Parents must not have done a good job in instilling them if the only way to make sure the children never think differently is to isolate from the world.

Some people may lose their faith in college, but it's not the millions of poor helpless fundie children being led astray that Lori/fundies believe. Lori went to college.  So did Ken -- did they lose their faith?

Emily is definitely sending her child to secular preschool. She even posted the name of it. She also said she will most likely be sending the kids to public school. The only other option was private school, and since that was an hour away, she wasn't that enthused. She did not say whether the private school was a Christian school or not, which is telling in and of itself (she didn't feel the need to reassure her friends that her kids would be going to Christian private school).

So yes, they are going to school. She sounds like she can't wait to get the first one out of the house, and was looking for an excuse to send her as a young 5 five year old, rather than  a 6 year old (no judgement there, I assure you).

I just don't understand why she is saying women have too much time on their hands. Doesn't this directly contradict her message, that women don't have time to work outside the home?

Women can't win. When they stay home, they are lazing about playing on the computer because modern conveniences let them finish housework quickly. If they try to fill their time with work, they are godless heathens.

Oh Lord I'd love to see her reaction to it all.  She must be wearing a blindfold.

No, I made that up.  I was downtown last night for a Mardi Gras ball and I was people watching as I walked from the Sheraton to where I'd parked my car.  If they were here, I don't doubt Ken would be at a "meeting" at one of the bars on Bourbon Street.  She could learn some new tricks from the greasing of the poles.  If you don't know what that is, look it up.  It's where they literally put grease on the balcony poles to keep people from climbing up them.

From The boredom post:

"...purchase fabric from the store and make some clothes or bed sheets."

Yeah, not a cost effective undertaking. Fabric is expensive and it's cheaper to buy virtually any and all clothes and sheets ready made. These days sewing is a luxury and a hobby.

I can never understand why Lori, Trey, and friends equate being busy to usefulness.

As usual, Lori is bored and lonely and spends hours socializing on the computer with the MRAs, doing nothing useful, so she assumes ALL women are doing the same thing. Except those hellbound working women (like her housekeeper)! She is dumb and uncreative enough to be unable to see things from any perspective other than her own, and she appears to be getting worse as she ages.

And yet again she is chastising other women for doing exactly what she, herself, actually does.

Lori, if you hate yourself that much go to a counselor. If you can't see how you are contradicting yourself, go to the doctor. Or get an actual hobby. You could read the whole Bible, instead of just part of it! You could grow your own organic veggies! Unlike most of your followers, you have plenty of money and time, so you can actually afford to do all sorts of hobbies. Why not learn to knit and make some stuff for the new grand baby on the way? Or for yourself. I'm ok with selfish knitting and you know how to be selfish.

@Sarah92,  is  there an  online optician that you like best?  I've heard good things about Zenni Optical for those of us who have difficult prescriptions (High index progressives with adjustment for astigmatism).

@PennySycamore Thank you!!  :happy-partydance: @wallysmommy I was there Friday night too, I finally got to see one of my all time favorite bands, and I was being a total fangirl nerd because Jensen Ackles is there doing his king thing.  He's king of Bacchus this year @Lisafer  Just knowing I was in the same town at the same time was enough for me :fire-nanner:

Happy Mardi Gras ya'll!!  Even if you don't partake, go do something fun just for you.  It's worth it.

Also...Ken in NOLA would either freak out and run home and ask Lori to flog him as a purge.....ooorrr he'd trip and fall in Rick's Cabaret and end up like this:

This makes me so mad! SO MAD! Calling socialising “useless”?????? So, human connections and mutual caring are worthless to Lori?? How tragic. How can someone read that and want to follow her?

I’m also ticked off at games being wasteful, though that is less obviously awful and more mainstream to hate. I find that games—both solitary ones and games with friends—give a happy structure to my downtime. They give me pleasure, and make me think and overcome challenges. When I play with others, relationships are strengthened. When I play alone, my creativity is refilled.

And if Lori truly believes that modern conveniences have given keepers-at-home lots of downtime, then WHAT ON EARTH IS WRONG WITH THEM USING THAT TIME TO WORK???????

Anyway my husband remarked when I mentioned that I might have to go to the laundromat some in the next week that we do have a river about a half mile away.

I know he was teasing you, but that reminded me of one of the more extreme discussions on the Raising Godly Tomatoes board. One woman had a sizeable inheritance from a family trust, and her deadbeat husband wanted her to give it away because he couldn’t handle her having more money than he was earning (which was very little because he was a lazy deadbeat). She was legit worried about becoming homeless. The Lorilike woman told her that her husband was a visionary and she should trust in him and God would reward her, and even if they did end  up living in their van, she could have a good attitude about washing clothes in the river and her kids would have an adventure to remember.

It sounds like a very elaborate troll in retrospect but I don’t think she was. She used her real name, her husband’s name and her kids’ names regularly both on the board and on her homeschool blog.
