I've been following them for almost a decade now (weird!!!). Sarah has definitely changed over the years. There was more confidence to her. She doesn't have that anymore.

Are you basing this on blog posts?

if I had to write the same shit over and over for a decade you’d all notice a change in me too.

or something else?

For Sarah, I think she would find great difficulty leaving Maxhell so long as her remaining siblings still live there.  Every day that passes she just becomes more entrenched in the Maxwellian way of living and in her monotonous daily life routine.  Even though she probably would love nothing more than to get married and have babies, I think it will be a great struggle for her to leave Steve's authority and place herself under another man's authority while her dad is still alive.  It would be a little different if she had ever spent any time away from home without another family member present, but the girl got to go to one sleepover before Steve put the kibosh on those, she never played in group sports, went to formal school with peers, participated in youth group, or worked a job that wasn't for a non-family member.  It actually enrages me when I think about what Steve has done to Sarah- he fucked up her whole childhood and young adult years, made marriage and motherhood the only thing to which she could aspire, then kept her so isolated for so long that it's now virtually impossible that she will ever be anything besides an "Auntie" and future live in housekeeper/nanny for her brothers' families.

I am trying to understand their anti-entertainment BS. They play board games, the kids play outside, they regularly go hiking, Have a lot of family parties and Mary seems to enjoy doing artwork. They do things that many people would see as entertainment but try and dress them up as Godly endeavors that are only performed to bring them closer to the Lord. For people who against fun, they seem to have a lot of it but can’t admit it.

Easy, they're hypocrites. This is no different than how back in moms' board days they would constantly post about how moms shouldn't work, even from home, ignoring the fact that Teri was writing books. But of course they decided that was ministry work so clearly didn't count.

It’s hard to tell because her smiles - like all her generation’s - are plastered on. I’m no good at reading whether “the smile goes to the eyes” but I do see a sdiminution in PSarah’s smiles. Back when she was 20, 21, there was a little mischief, a spontaneity.  Not now.  Not for a while, actually.

I don’t put much credence in that kind of thing.  They take a million pics of themselves doing the most mundane things ...after while that would get old even if you loved your life.

Tomorrow is Poor Sarah's bday.  Little known facts about Sarah: she loves lattes, loves the Lord Jesus, and is a writer.  And she knows where she is going when she dies!  Seriously though, as much as she irritates me by telling me how to vote I do feel sorry for her.  37 years and no life of her own.

Wherever Poor Sarah's going can't be any worse than where she's at.  Now, my birthday is on the anniversary of Roe vs. Wade.  Imagine if that were PS's birthday-no cake or ice cream, just non-stop wailing and gnashing of teeth.

I notice they all wear a lot of really warm clothing in the house, I think they might be too cheap to turn up the thermostat.

God damn they’re boring.

I'd think that Steve's hot air could heat the place just fine.

The second I know somebody's taking a picture of me, my face freezes into a grin like the rictus of a dead squirrel. I can't help it. :my_biggrin:

Potaytoe potahtoe, my friend.  There's a weariness to her now.  (Says the snarker who can't read eyes but apparently *can* read teeth.  Go figure.)

What's particularly tragic in Sarah's case is that her blog bio states that she would love to be a wife and mother, but she's just waiting on the Lord for that right guy. God doesn't just plop Godly men onto fundie maidens' doorsteps. Young eligible men aren't just gonna drive past her house and instinctively know she's in there. We have seen them socialise with other families, but the vast majority of fundie men her age are married, or are Arndts and also weirdly enmeshed. There is rather more hope for Anna and Mary age-wise.

Steve is a fucking tool and he sucks big time.

Her chances for marriage, at least in her community, are pretty slim.

I don't know, if Scott Brown* managed to find a second husband for his divorced, 30-something daughter with 6 kids, I have a feeling Steve could find someone for Sarah if he actually wanted to.

(Yes, they're in somewhat different fundie circles, but in terms of the marriage market, I think they have more in common than not.)

As for what Sarah actually wants, who knows.

I feel like fundies have a tendency to call anything a "ministry" so that they can excuse doing things they decry as frivolous or sinful.

"Oh, this isn't a vacation, it's MINISTRY!"

"Oh, I'm not working from home even though I said that women shouldn't do that because it's ungodly, I'm doing MINISTRY!"

"Oh, this isn't just my burlesque drag act, it's MINISTRY!"

Sarah’s Birthday post is up, and it is nothing less than an unapologetic, stinging slap in the face from her twisted mother.

”We know you envisioned your life to be a stay-at-home mom homeschooling children, but God hasn’t directed  that way by bringing the right man into your life. So you have focused your energies on what He has given you to do and had an amazingly  productive life in that.”

It should read “We know you envisioned having a genuine loving relationship and a family of your own, but because of your father’s unchecked psychotic behavior manifesting in an unnatural desire to control his children’s every move, and because I have no interest in reclaiming a backbone, no men have ever been allowed in your life, unless they are related to you of course. We have sucked all of your energies for our own gain by making us all so unhealthily codependent on each other that you do not even realize you have wasted almost 40 years mentally enslaved to two majorly ill people, the very same who should have nutured you to become a independent adult.”

Why would you say that at any time, much less as a happy birthday message?  You might as well say to your daughter, “yeah, you wanted to be a nurse/teacher/whatever but you never finished school or whatever because your dad and I refused to give you any help or encouragement, but at least you’re focused on doing my busywork every day while you lament the life we wouldn’t let you have. Have a nice birthday!”

That post just confirms my long suspicion that Teri's problems don't start or end with depression/mental illness...she's a stone-cold BITCH.

And why even fucking bring that up? Happy birthday, let's publicly air your life disappointments!

I know I snark on the Duggars for their "Happy birthday, uh...wait, which one are you? I guess you love Jesus and chocolate sundaes or some shit idk" Instagram posts but at least they're not this level of negative and just plain mean.

That woman doesn't have a maternal bone in her body.  That hateful shrew is every bit as bad as her husband.

If anyone discussed my birthday like that, I'd disown them. "we know you want this but instead you have this and be happy about it". Such a sad, pathetic, underwhelming post for her birthday and her life. What in their lives makes them think that is any kind of tribute to Sarah?

I just went and looked.  She quoted Proverbs 31, which describes in great detail a WOMAN WHO HAS A HUSBAND AND CHILDREN.

That post makes me feel for Sarah. I turned 40 yesterday. My parents came down to celebrate with us. They certainly have not agreed with every choice I've made in life, but they raised me in such a way that not only was I allowed to choose, I was expected to.

I sincerely hope Sarah doesn't internalize not being married/having kids as a mark on her character but based on that post I doubt it. And I actually think her parents blame her for it. How sad.

I was actually kind of shocked to read Teri's birthday post. She made it sound like Sarah's life was over and will never change (which it probably won't), but for God's sake! She's "only" 37 and could very well find a "man of her dreams" later on, however unlikely that is in her circles. She may and most likely will never be a mom of many, if any, but finding love later in life is something that happens _all_the_time_. Jesus, Teri, try a little more, will you :5624795033223_They-see-me-rollinroll:

I'm only three years older than Sarah and not a mother (by my own choice), but I cannot imagine living her life.

I love baseball but I'm dreading the new season because the White Sox ownership is THE FUCKING WORST. I watched Dominican League Baseball (Lidom!) over the winter and fell in love with their joy, spirit, and exuberance. The broadcasts were in Spanish and my Spanish is pretty weak but I loved catching phrases and repeating them. Bombe! I'm sad about MLB and Commissioner Idiota's busywork rules. But I love baseball, always and forever.
I guess I don't have a point. Just bitching. Te amo mucho, Lidom!

      Happy International Women's Day!

Humanity may have some work to do, to improve gender equality, but I was glad to hear that France has taken an important step to protect healthcare for women (and people of other genders who can get pregnant).

Feeling ragey this morning. I have a doctor's appointment this afternoon in the hope of getting help for an ongoing injury. I went to a (different!!) doctor late last year who completely blew me off. He wouldn't do diagnostic testin, he refused to send me to a specialist, and he just told me to "take it easy" and "take ibuprofen." I'm hopeful for today's appointment but I'm also feeling a SEVERE amount of rage at that doctor from last year!

Well, the rash is back with a vengeance. It never completely cleared up. I saw the derm yesterday and they did another swab and yup, raging infection again, still? It is definitely strep skin infection. I am getting so damn tired and run down from this. Who the f would immagine being hospitalized freaking TWICE for a rash?

My niece is going to be a seat filler at this year's Academy Awards.  Seat fillers are asked to wear tuxedos regardless of sex/gender.  If you see a pretty young woman with very curly hair, it could be my niece.
