Seewalds 37: Yes, Jessa is Pregnant

Led Zeppelin is one of my favorite bands, so I've struggled with this.

I think that enjoying someone's art and excusing someone's behavior are two different things. I think it's okay for me to think Zoso is one of the best albums ever. It's not okay for me to excuse Jimmy Page's (many) cases of statutory rape and general mistreatment of women just because he helped make Zoso. I would call out anyone I heard doing the latter.

Does it not depend how you are enjoying the music, though? If you are listening on the radio or streaming it, the artist is still getting royalties. And obviously they get cash if you purchase their music.

My preferred radio station in the UK still regularly plays a track by a band whose frontman was convicted of child porn offences. I thought that was gross, so I wrote to complain, and switched stations. Which sucks, as no ther station is quite as good!

Okay, so I only ever post speculation on pregnancies for Jessa and I'm the weirdo that thinks Jessa's arms look different when she's pregnant. I speculated she was expecting on Sept. 25 based on a pic from a couple days earlier. Might've been a touch early for my arm theory to really be visible, but she was pregnant then, so I'm counting this as another win (guessed with Henry too and no wrong guesses!). ?‍♀️

@Carm_88 not sure if 88 is the year you were born or what, but that is the year I graduated from high school. My Guidance counselor asked if I was going to college for my MRS degree (me in my naivety  asked what the heck an MRS was?) He also told me I was a pretty girl and shouldn't have any trouble finding a husband before I had to take any "real hard classes" college. He would be fired for that today, but he told a LOT of young women that in his tenure from 1960 to 1990 at my school. My freshman year a senior girl ran off with a teacher to get married. Granted she was 17, 3 months away from 18 and he had just turned 22 in 1984 when they 1st met, and 18 when they married in June of 1985. 35 years later, they are still married and he is a high school principal. Had this happened now he would have been arrested and lost his teaching license, but at the time, while a bit scandalous, no one really batted an eye, I think mostly because she was nearly 18, and he was 22 so it wasn't that big of an age gap and she never had him as her teacher, he taught freshman English.  looking back at what was considered normal then is now considered criminal activity it is a bit strange, it is welcome, I didn't like that the guidance counselor assumed I was only going to college to get a husband, and I resented him assuming I was stupid just because I was a female. But there was nothing we could do back then, it was always "oh that is just his way" now people listen, 30 years ago they didn't.

Interesting about the senior girl. When I was in HS one graduate married the Consumer Ec. teacher/coach. He seemed so old at the time but he had to have been fairly young. Anyone over 20 looked old to me.

I just looked her up on FB and they are still married, bunch of kids and grandkids!

I do want to the see The Cursed Child play. I like Scorpius, I like Malfoy, and a weird part of me likes that bizarre trolly witch moment. The play looks really well cast though. That's about all of the nice things I can say though.

The trolley witch moment made me wonder if JK Rowling was on drugs or has a brain tumor. Yeah someone else wrote it but she approved it. This is the same woman who doesn’t want coca-cola products sold in wizarding world so visitors can be completely immersed in the one she created.

I don't consider the Cursed Child cannon. It's not written by JK, even though they slap her name on it. There's a good video floating around on the internet about how you can tell it's not Jo, which also mentions that HP books are mysteries disguised as fantasy, while CC is just the butterfly effect. Also it breaks so many rules from the original series when it comes to magic/the world's lore.

Link? That’s something I hated about CC. It just doesn’t fit with the books. And it has Hermione spouting off about “allies of darkness” which is so NOT Hermione. Ugh.

I’m a librarian and I love books, but when the Cursed Child script came out as a hardback and I saw it on the shelf.....it took everything I had not to take it and burn it before any innocent patrons could be tainted with it.

I’ve decided we are officially friends based on this post lol

I am late but just coming in to say that the name Albus Severus is far better than Spurgeon.  Not sure about Nymphadora though.

Nymphadora is better than Tezlee

Read the Cursed Child once. Never touched it again. I will admit I wouldn't be completely opposed to seeing it live, but I won't be going out of my way or spending tons of money to do so. Every character just felt so... out of character. It legit made me sad.

Speaking of, I'm hitting up the Wizarding World in Orlando this weekend. I'll be the nerd in the Hufflepuff robe skipping onto the Hogwarts Express! Never gets old, even if I am! ?

I read it once and will never read it again. I was able to get tickets to see it in London before the script came out. If I read the script first I don’t know if I would have gotten tickets.

And you’re never too old to parade around in Hogwarts robes!

Is it though? Having nympho in a name for a girl is very wrong

I'll be surprised if Jessa or any of them stops having kids because they are happy with what they have.  Even thinking "my family is complete now" probably seems very close to rebelling against God to them.  It sounds a lot like "doing what I want, not what God wants."  I see the second-geners stopping eventually if and when they're overwhelmed and no one is stepping in to do the laundry or give them lucrative TV contracts.  But I think for some of them this would lead to a lot of denial about God not giving them more than they can handle.  Some might also stop if they are advised to do so for medical reasons.

I'm always sad for another child to be exposed to the abuse of fundamentalism.  This was inevitable, though, and at least it's not Jill and Derick.  And I'm glad Spurgeon and Henry got some quality time with their parents before another baby was thrown into the mix.

I do think that they might be okay with NFP if they feel overwhelmed, knowing about the chances of failure and that they may decide they really want to get it on and risk it. I dont know how successful they would be, but I think it's less against their beliefs.

Good point...I just Tezlee just sounds so awful and bizarre on the ears but you’re right about that

If I heard the name Tezlee, I'd immediately assume her name is actually Tesla and they are calling her Tezlee as a nickname (which I'd then assume is spelled Tessly).

Also, Elon Musk is gross, goes without saying.

I initially hear the name "Tezlee" like a version of "Tess." As in "Tessley," although a "Tessleigh" existing would be fun.

I think Tezlee is a cool name actually, and I'm not normally into bizzarily misspelled + made up names.

I'm sure some of the couples might do some form of natural family planning. Jill got pregnant with Sam around 18 months after giving birth to Izzy by c-sestion, which led me to think that it was on purpose and she followed doctors' advice. Will be interesting to see if Joy is doing the same thing.

I think NFP or the like would be okay, because presumably the Duggars believe in the Holy Ghost and that God can speak to them through the Holy Ghost, meaning it is still God's will if they get a prompting to delay any more blessings, wait a certain time etc. They are still leaving it up to God, because God spoke to them through the Holy Spirit.

(the same goes for spouses I would think - God would confirm to them that it is the right spouse for them)

Derick responded to someone on Twitter (I think) a while back asking if Jill had a hysterectomy and couldn't have anymore kids, and he said no, that's wasn't true, and he had no idea how that rumour got started.

He could be straight up lying, but I seriously doubt it. I think she can and will have more kids. But since Derick is the headship, he gets to decide how (or if) they space them.

I actually think the hysterectomy rumours came partly from this site. I still don’t get how people came to this conclusion. Having a hysterectomy because of problems at birth is thankfully very rare. Just because Jill looked very ill and seemed very down/disappointed and Sam had a short stay at NICU (not sure if this isn’t just sepeculation either to be honest) people came up with the wildest ideas.

Baby time!

And it shocked me to, once again, learn that Jessa's my age. Sheesh, I've known that for years! But it just creates this... weird feeling. I really, truly dreamt of having kids at a "younger age" and hell, I ain't even married (though my boyfriend did just ask me rather bluntly when I think it's ok to propose :pb_eek:)! So I guess right now I'm satisfied with following people that are my age and already have a kid or a few. :P

I absolutely understand. We wanted to start our family young too (around 23-25) but had been putting it off till I reached thirty. Being a mum now made me regret it. But who knows, maybe waiting was good for us. We will never know. But I absolutely get your feelings. Hopefully your dream will come true soon.

About David Bowie: I think people should decide wether to judge everyone to the standards of their time or to hold them all to our current ones. Because I see a lot of cherry picking which is rather hypocritical in my opinion. Bowie’s actions would probably have been criminal in that time. He was just lucky that powerful people like him are still seldom persecuted (and if they are often settle outside court thanks to money).

I always think that the works of a genius and a genius mindset can be cherished while you also acknowledge that he/she was just a shitty/criminal person (Wagner for another example).

I think (but could be wrong), that one the early seasons of 16 and pregnant named a later daughter Tessleigh oh or was it Tinleigh? There are so many kids in those franchises.

Sarah from 16 and pregnant named her first daughter Tinleigh then her second Tessly, she commented on twitter how Catelynn had chosen Novalee, when Briana had named her daughter Nova and how Tezlee was similar to her daughter's name. Sarah calls her daughter Tess or Tessa for short, none of the shortened forms of Tezlee sound nice. I hope they choose a different name.

I'm 99% sure that Seewald #3 will have a normal name, and a speshul snowflake Christian middle name. But in no way is Jessa going to accept another Spurgeon-level name. I highly doubt that Ben would have used a name like Spurgeon if he (Ben) had been older when the first son was born.

That part is definitely not speculation. It came directly from Derick, who complained on Twitter that TLC hadn't paid for Sam's NICU stay.

Excellent point. It would be like buying one of Hitler's paintings because you liked his technique. Hell no. The recent R. Kelly shitshow is a good example of how you really can't separate the person from the art. I cancelled Woody Allen a long time ago too.  I think continuing to keep these abusers in good standing artistically is part of the problem.  Most of these assholes will never answer to the legal system and monetary impact may be the only discipline they ever face. Society must stop devaluing girls and women (or any  abuse victim for that matter). #Muteallabusers

It's long, but if you get to the end they talk about Rowling's writing style and how it's completely absent from CC.

I'm sure people buy a lot of things from people who are horrible people. If you go buy meat, how do you know the butcher is not a horrible person? If you buy a chair, how do you know that the person who made the chair isn't nasty?

Nobody expects anyone to act on information they don't know. I was referring to celebrities and public figures who hugely profit off their work, FWIW, I don't patronize Hobby Lobby or Chik-Fil-A either.

I saw this argument pop up on a thread in the Bates forum a little while back. I think the difference is when you know that someone is a horrible human being and you choose to support them anyways - whether that’s moral support or financial support. If you follow your reasoning here then no one would ever buy anything from anyone ever because there’s always a possibility that they’re secretly horrible people.

ETA: Just saw that @SilverBeachalready answered. I agree with her. My personal belief is that I try not to support companies or individuals who I know have done things I don’t agree with. If a company or individual rethinks their choices, apologizes, accepts responsibility (ie. serving time in prison), atones, and does better in the future then I’m willing to reconsider at that point.

I'm no that's sure I could follow through with that. I listen to all sorts of musicians, I'm sure most of them have done bad things.
