I wonder how many of these anti-vaxxers would deny their children insulin.

Believe it or not....the Detox, AntiVax, Woo Insanity page has featured posts of people trying to avoid insulin because...needles. Must be a vaccine.

The stupidity knows no bounds.

insane. Just insane. Personally I think they should all be busted for child endangerment. The sad thing is many of these types are also "pro-life". Cognitive dissonance at it's finest.

I know right? They should just say pro-fetus because once the baby is out of the womb they are usually the same people who balk at helping any child who isn't their own, beat their kids into submission, etc. As long as it's a hypothetical life inside the womb, it is precious. Once it is born and starts needing things like food and healthcare, it's a burden on society.

They don't understand a more global pro-life view. If you're going to be "pro-life" then for it to make sense, you have to be pro-care, housing, clothing, education, transportation, medical needs AND contraception. When it comes to pregnancy, I am pro-choice. Beyond that, I am "pro-life". I support the idea that EVERYONE should have their basic needs met. I'll pay more in taxes, I don't care. Housing, food, clothing, education and medical care are part of a pro-life philosophy.

I've had a lot of time to think about this, many years...and that is what I believe, in terms of pro-life/choice philosophy. I do not think abortion is an ideal solution except in cases of gross fetal abnormality, I'd prefer to find better solutions. HOWEVER, I am not you or anyone else. I'd prefer a more LIFE philosophy when it comes to "pro-life". But these same shits who scream about unborn babies would let my husband die rather than make sure he gets the meds he needs to live. So...I think they're all shits, hypocrites and fake christians who need a good swift kick in the ass, repeatedly, with a steel-toed boot.

If one is really pro life then it's all life, everyone's life, even the serial killer's.  So by extension pro life should also be anti death penalty.

Yeah, I tried that argument once on a rabid pro lifer (actually pro fetuser). She was horrified and adamant that God demands we punish the murderers with death. Because an eye for an eye. She helpfully pointed out that was in the Bible.

When I pointed out that was the Old Testament she said didn't matter. That there were some people who didn't deserve to live.  Because obviously if you were in jail you were guilty and guilty people weren't innocent.  But those womb babies are innocent so they get to live,

Wrongfully convicted and on death row was not a concept she could grasp.

Interestingly she was not a fan of social programs/ nets for children once they were born.   Amazing ... who could have predicted that.

Of course, their solution is “just give it up for adoption”(preferably to a white, middle-class, heterosexually married Christian couple with a SAHM).

I got in major trouble for saying that out loud as a government teacher in Christian school. Because the idea of making sure people have adequate food and housing was, in the view of the people who ran that place, very un-christian.

Seventeen and a half years ago and it still makes me angry.

Adoption is not a game.  Not a cute little solution.  I was adopted. I was in foster care prior (I don't recall this as I was very young).

NO ONE has any business adopting who is not EDUCATED about the implications of adoption physically, emotionally and spiritually. It is often not very pretty.  The child has a WOUND.  That wound must be bound up and healed.

Because socialism. Their "biblical values" are twisted as fuck.

Was talking to #1 son today. This is the kid who is well on the way to his first million. He's getting fucked in taxes right now, 21.9% just in federal taxes. Fortunately for him, his medical care is free b/c he's rated 100% disabled (Army vet). He pays through the nose for his wife though and it will be worse when little one gets here (my granddaughter is still in Mongolia until the end of the school year there). He's all in favor of raising the social security/medicare tax from 7.65% to 9.65% and taking the cap off social security earnings (currently capped at the first 125k or so of earnings). No more insurance bills, no more co-pays, deductibles, any of that shit. Transfer people out of the VA system into the national system and save the VA money. It makes sense. For me, I'd save about 300 bucks A MONTH in premiums (I only pay for my own insurance since hubs is under the VA). It works out to about 50 cents an hour in taxes for me...shiiiiiiit...

Fuck these shit eating, lying, hypocritical piece of shit "Christians" it makes me so goddamn mad.

It seems per the world wide web, that the majority of anti-vaxxers have decided it is and are refusing it for their newborns.

Because anything in a syringe is evil.

Some years ago on Lactnet, an email discussion group for lactation professionals,  the issue of Vitamin K injections postpartum came up.  Dr Jack Newman, a renowned pediatrician from Toronto, said that he'd seen devastating things in newborns in developing countries due to neonates' lacking the ability to clot blood.  The gist of his posts were give your babies the damn shot of Vitamin K!

How I hate this stupid saying. A women with an unwanted pregnancy is not a wish fullfiller for some childless couples, so they can get an infant to raise from the start. While I think an unfullfilled wish for a child can be crushing, it is not the responsability of another woman to go throw a pregnancy against her will, since a pregnancy is no cake walk and can have lasting side effects. And esp not with the foster system full of children in need for a good home.

Regarding health care. What these egoistical idiots don't see with universal health care is, that the health care costs per person will go down with everyone insured. Public health insurances have special discount contracts with pharm companies. Every 2 years, they give out a list of the 200 most prescribed meds and say, the lowest price wins. With millions of insured people, even with a discount of 70 or 80 % for a med, the company makes a good win out of it, because the pharmacy is obliged to give the med from the company with the contract. And the health insurances are really good at negotiating prices. For example a good adjusted type 1 diabetic here in Germany will cost the public insurance about 400 to 500 € (450 to 570 $) for his quarterly insulin, pen needles and blood sugar testing equipment, with a co-pay of 20 € for the patient. A type 2 with only metformin and some test strips is under 100 € for 3 months. And these costs are the same in every pharmacy in Germany, since prescription meds have fixed price  by law.  Things like these cost my round about 15 % of my salary, split 50:50 between me and my employer and for that price I get not only meds, but also can visit my doc every time I need to and a host of many other things.

What people also don't know about government health care is the amount of people who go to the ER for simple things. Now that I'm in the ER a lot for work, I see how much it's used for non emergencies because apparently there's a less chance of having to pay a bill because the hospital will just lose money on those who can't pay. I don't know the details on how it works. But those who are uninsured clog the ER when they should be able to visit a doctors. Or their sickness shouldn't get to the point they need the ER but that happens too. The government also shells out a ton for ER visits that should be managed elsewhere.

Happy New Years everyone! I went to bed at 9:30 last night and completely missed New Years lol. Such a partying heathen I am. Time to do all the laundry I didn't do last year lol. Does anyone have New Years plans/ resolutions? Mine's read more books. I love reading, but I let reading fall to the side when I starting working. Also work towards health. Not so much to lose weight but because I just really need to take better care of myself because I'm worthy of such care. And lastly, continue to be a feminist, working "heathen".

Happy New Year, @Sarah92 and all my other fellow FJ'ers!   I'm doing my laundry today, too, oddly enough!  As for resolutions and plans, I haven't thought about it much yet, except for trying to get my blood sugar and A1c numbers down between now and mid-February when I next go to the doctor's.  I really let things go to hell the past month or two (okay, the past month or three, or four... ), and if I don't want to end up on insulin I need to get my act together NOW, and then keep it together. *grits teeth*

I wonder if Lori has made any resolutions. Here's one for ya, Lori: Be nicer. :my_dodgy:

On the ER visits, my hospital has been full to capacity with inpatients backed up into the ER.  We are the main cardiac hospital for the area, so all cardiac cases are transferred into us from the other nearby hospitals.  We do some "treat and street" where those who should be at urgent care are treated in fast track and discharged.  People using the ER for colds and other non-critical illness is a big problem.  I work adjacent to the ED so I get to see the line of people waiting to be seen.

The other issue is mental health care.  It's very difficult to place non-insured psych patients, particularly adolescents or children.  We do not have a behavioral health unit, so they can sit with us for days in the ER waiting for placement at any hospital in the state.  At times, we have 5 to 7 psych patients waiting for placement in a 29 bed ER.  Those patients can take 1/3 of our bed capacity.  It's very, very sad.

The ER can’t turn people away based on ability/inability to pay. In terms of non-emergent care, that becomes tricky. Surveys completed my patients after receiving care are tied to reimbursement rates and other factors that can have an impact on hospital ratings and finances. We need a major system overhaul.

Happy New Year to everyone here! I don’t really do resolutions anymore- I usually pick a word to guide the year. Our Sunday sermon was about how we need to stretch in order to receive, so I think that is going to be my word- even though I feel like 2018 has already stretched us. But I am moving forward in faith and fully trusting in Him.

The mental health thing is definitely a problem and finding placement is becoming more difficult as hospitals make stricter rules, all of which are different of course for each hospital. I had one call and grill about information that I couldn't possibly know unless I spent hours screening the individual for info not relevant to the problem or if they'd been a client of mine. There's not time for that when they should just be reading the doctors notes provided which contains half the info they asked for. Grrr Of course they wasted my time and didn't accept.  Our ambulance service has stopped taking voluntary patients so that's another barrier towards finding placement. Of course if they have private insurance the hospital is usually much happier taking them. As someone who was uninsured for so long I can't imagine what it would be like to need help but have to wait days for someone to be willing because of money. And I know for some of my clients it's difficult to maintain Medicaid because our DHS sucks.

Yes. Finally someone who understands! My husband was adopted. He is still scarred by it to this day. Some of that is due to the fact that he was raised by an evil, narcissistic bitch, but part of it is due solely to being rejected by his birth mother and spending the first 6 weeks of his life abandoned in the hospital, with no parents.

And don't even get me started on Lori's crazy "verbal abuse is okay" shit. Verbal abuse nearly destroyed me. It is NOT okay!

I have been to the ER a couple of times.  When I fell and had my TBI-concussion as a kid, when I broke my arm (twice) as a kid because of course those things never happen unless it's the weekend and then a couple of times as an adult.  Once, I didn't feel too good when I went to bed on a Friday evening but not really sick, however I woke up the next morning with an extremely high fever (turned out to be strep throat) and my doctor's on call service told me to go to the ER because it turned out he did not have a system with another doctor to take his weekend calls so he just sent everybody to the ER.  The other time was when I couldn't stop vomiting all Saturday night and Mr. Briefly basically carried me out to the car, "tossed" me into the car and rushed me to the ER - which was actually a good thing because they said I would probably have died if I'd waited much longer.  I have been there a few times with the Briefly daughter - when she broke her arm on a Sunday afternoon, and then Mr. Briefly has made a few visits because he is like Pigpen in the Charlie Brown cartoons, except that it's injuries (usually involving blood being shed) instead of dirt that happen.  We had insurance and also paid our co-pays.

But I handled the insurance at my job in Texas, and it was very common for the employees to go to the ER for minor things in the hope that they hospital would not go after them for payment over what the insurance paid.  Most of them seemed to go to the County hospital because it almost never went after people for payment.

I don't really do New Year's Resolutions.  My mom always called the Resolutions and never realized she had the wrong word!  I do general goals but realistic things.

Dear fellow Jezebels who work traditional work schedules -- heigh ho, heigh ho, it's back to our sinful jobs today.  One thing to look forward to is what will the wheel of crazy bring to us today.  I'm surprised we didn't get a lecture on New Year's resolutions being sinful or some other cockamamie bullshit.

Anyway, Happy New Year, dear FJers!

Today our Godly Mentor claims that 'When I was in high school, I dated two guys long-term. They weren’t believers but they knew I had strict standards concerning sexual morality. Even though both of them had had sex with other girls before me, it’s me who they wanted to marry and be with.'  I'm not buying it. Lori just wants her followers to think that she was oh-so-desirable when she was younger, but sacrificed it all for a Godly Man.
