The millionth update of vacation pics has to be the topper. The 7 sisters went to some church where all the Christian movies are filmed and were so thrilled they met some of the extras from the movies. The also met some exercise lady from their exercise videos and got their picture taken with her. Is that not stange to plan a day of your vacation trying to meet someone from an exercise video and get her autograph?(We know would want Richard Simmons, but he is in his own catagory :))

I just found it weird. Also, everyone they stay with mostly seems to wear jeans and t-shirts. I get the feeling that must be odd to see the mom and girls (and boys have material added on to match now)those sunflower frumpers when you know dress normal.

Yeah, I agree there is a weird cast to their whole vacation. I'm not sure if vibe I'm getting is from what they have done, their matchy matchy frumpers, or the way they seem have ditched their gluten free diet for the duration of their vacation with no sequelae, or the way they refer to their parents as mommy and daddy regardless of whether they are 10 or 20 years old.

It looks like the sunflower scrap fabric was added to the boys' shirts because they were growing out of them. I'm sort of surprised that they would let the boys wear a floral fabric. The Amrican flags jumper seems really out of place though. Outside of a 4th of July parade, that much "patriotism" just becomes a parody of itself. They really should have chosen a fabric that would work throughout the year. This family's clothes are just so easy to snark on. They're like the Duggars before they struck it rich, but worse because most of the girls are older and there aren't as many normally-dressed boys to dilute things. At least their braided hairstyle seems more practical than the Duggar loose crunchy curls, and no flip-flops in sight for a hike (although plenty of sneakers with dresses and some sandals that were the height of fashion 15 years ago for middle-aged women).

I don't check their blog very often because every time I do, I just gush to much with the clothing snark and miss all the important stuff.

They sure have a lot of pictures though, especially scenery. I think they should get an online photo album to dump pics so they don't have to include every single one on the blog. These are memories that are important to them but not as much to other people, so they could show just a select few to represent things. I'm sure that each photo of fall leaves reminds them of the experience of being there, but for everyone else they all look pretty much the same. Or they could take up scrapbooking to fulfill their creative urges instead of those ridiculous jumpers.

I giggled out loud at the patriotic frumper paired with a Members Only jacket in this pic: farm7.static.flickr.com/6112/6221609347_04d6fe4e69_z.jpg

In truth, though, I sort of love that they just could.not.care.less about what other girls are wearing. They're not even attempting to do a fundie version of current clothing. Nope, they're gonna wear their Country Flag and Old McDonald frumpers and old-lady sandals with pride--and to heck with everyone else.

I think that their frumpers out frumper the old Maxwell frumpers by a bit. However their frumpers do seem to be better made. Watching Project Runway I now pay attention to tailoring.

Posted

Could one of the sisters have courtship potential for a young Maxwell patriarch-to-be? They are Christian, sheltered, homeschooled, not worldly at all, and wear very modest frumpers.

I have to say, I thought Sherwood Baptist would be a bigger church. And isn't that just a regular lizard? We have them here all the time in NC.

And since they watch the ebil Sherwood movies, they might not be unfun enough for Maxwells, but they do seem to be pretty close to being Maxwell approved. Too bad they don't have an older boy for Sarah.

The "coming home" pictures are a hoot. At least they seem to be having fun (I particularly liked the "charging the cat" one). Which, yeah, pretty much disqualifies them from Maxwell marriage material ... which I think is lucky for them.

This photo is a boatload of snark:

One poor girl has a random strip of different fabric in her skirt, like they didn't have enough of the first hideous type to go all the way around. Rather than making it slightly less baggy, they just tossed in a fabric with a completely different pattern. They couldn't even use a solid color! And the other girl's frumper has a cow print! It's almost as bad as the Duggar panda jumpers. The boy's airplane shirt it cute, but I doubt he'll have to wear it as a teenager, while the girls will be stuck wearing cow or flag print their entire adult lives.

(We know would want Richard Simmons, but he is in his own catagory :))

One of my friends recently made a trip to LA just to take a class at Richard Simmons' exercise studio! She said he is a lovely, lovely person and the workout was fantastic.

I thought the exercise lady would be seen as defrauding, since she was wearing skintight spandex and showing a lot of skin!

I want to know how the mother managed to do the exercise classes, or what ever it was she was doing, in a frumper.

One thing I like about this family is that they often post photos of them with friends who are dressed like normal teenagers. I remember one picture of a girl in very short shorts hanging out with them. It's good that they are allowed friends with different dress values.

If you watch their videos(and sadly I usually do) they always seem to be laughing and having fun. I have trouble snarking on them because there is just too much and I see them all stuck at home forever. If Sarah can't get a man, how could they?

I love how they are always so happy. I actually rather enjoy their blog. I like happy people and cute kid stories. And I kind of like the fact that they hang out with people who wear shorts. That shows that, while extremely fundie, at least they aren't so judgmental that they have to be friends with people EXACTLY like them.

As others have pointed out, though, it is disturbing to think of their future. To imagine all of the kids as older adults, still hanging around the house in matching frumpers and having no life away from each other! :o

Also, I always wonder if there are secretly very ugly sides to their beliefs. They always keep it so light and sweet and happy on their blog, but then I wonder about their true beliefs and causes they would support.

Also, how can anyone like those awful Christian movies?

People like the Duggars have made me cynical. I wonder if the kids in this family are truly happy all the time, or if it's just an act. Or if they are always happy, it's creepy and childlike and probably because they've been told lies about just how bad it is to be a real grown up with your own thoughts and responsibilities. And being in pictures with people dressed differently doesn't necessarily make them accepting. The Duggars hang out around plenty of mainstream people, and then use them as examples to illustrate the wrong way to dress. This family might do the same thing.

Yeah, that's true. At least they don't do that on their blog, though! The Duggars did things like that on their very public show (talking about immodestly dressed women and stuff).

I think the skirt has alternating strips. If you look closely, you can see some of the alternating fabric (that matches the back of the bodice part) around the front of the skirt too.

It looks like it matches one of the patchwork pieces in the rest of the jumper. I don't think it's random.

I can't believe they went to 15 states in 19 days. That's almost a different state per day...

These girls seem really nice for fundys, but I wonder what their future holds. They haven't mentioned anything about courtship and there are at least three in their twenties. It just seems so strange, like they'll be at home forever. At least there's a lot of them and only two little boys to take care of.

That's why I kind of like them, too. And they seem happy. I have known fundies like this and I liked being around them. The ones I knew were waaay conservative, but they could get along with others and not make one feel judged. In my experience, the folks who had insecurity issues or who wanted attention for their own purported holiness were the really judgy ones.

Perfect family for the Maxwells. I can picture Anna Marie's family to be similar. These people are the only ones I have seen that are extreme enough to marry a Maxwell. Some of the girls are cute.

I agree...they seem to have drank gallons of the Kool aid

Cept they seem to actually have what some people might call fun...

Tee hee. But, ya know, their idea of wild fun is taking 30 different pictures of them approaching their home after vacay. So it may be a good match after all. And they are used to having their food limited, like sharing a cheesesteak with 100 other people. Having a tortilla and a salad all to themselves may seem like heaven.

I can really picture Joseph or Jesse with one of these girls (not my precious John though lol)
