Radical Feminity 2: Treasure Trove of Fundie

Summary for anyone who may be new here: the Washburns are a family of Messianic (aka fake) Jews (headcovering, celebrate Jewish festivals etc). Daughters Hannah and Abigail got married last year. Both had daughters of their own earlier this year; Hannah’s daughter is Yael Mercy and Abigail’s daughter is Dakota Rose. Son Tommy Washburn is also now married.

The family own a puppy mill, Happy Hill Pups.

Hilariously, Abigail’s married name is LaGoy. Although her husband also appears to be from a Messianic family, how strict the individual kids are varies. For example, Abigail doesn’t head cover as much and sometimes wears pants. She’s also discovered FJ and ranted on Facebook about it.

Silas Lagoy’s siblings seem to also vary a bit. I believe he has quite a few siblings (around 9 or 10) and the boys all have S names.

James Manderino (Hannah’s husband) is a recent convert. His family seems to be catholic.

I want to add.... Tommy Washburn married Kayli Wilson. Another messianic. However when she changed her Facebook to her new last name, she also changed the spelling of her first name. How weird! It went from Kayli to Kaylea.

One of the Lagoy SAHDs in her 30s has a blog. There’s a questionnaire she links on her blog. It’s questions for potential mates. This one in particular made me wince:

78. Should a man, who has not been circumcised, do so? If so, when?

Eeek! I hope James Manderino didn’t have to go through a circumcision as an adult! The rate of newborn circumcision is pretty darn high in the US so I’m guessing no. But damn, maybe that’s what Meatloaf was singing about when he said, “I will do anything for love, but I won’t do that.”

Shock that it was 78 items long led to disbelief when it ended at 170 items and a personality trait quiz!!
What the fuck. Like, is dating really worse than that nonsense?

Some of those questions are hilariously specific.

“What temperature would your house to be during the day and at night?”

Lol wut?

I missed that one!

I did see "what do you most have trouble trusting YHWH with?"

You can't put 'my porn habit' on there and still get the wife, so...

ETA going back I see "what are your thoughts about the medical field" and they put routine health care in quotation marks ('routine' health care). I can guess the right answer there, I'm afraid.

I believe these are the same folks who don't get ultrasounds because of some verse about how the baby is formed "in secret." Go back a bit on Samantha's blog and she has a post about how one of her sisters didn't know she was having twins and attempted a home birth.

133.Do you have any allergies? If so, how are they treated or dealt with?

Is there a wrong answer to this? Are they not supposed to treat allergies? I vaguely remember the Seppis are epi-pen truthers so maybe its a fundie thing.

Abigail's baby Dakota is actually really cute!

I love the LaGoy daughter's questionnaire. Way easier than saying "nope I never want to get married" I guess. I need to go ask my husband if he's worried our kid and I have medical issues because of a generational curse though. My mother has started pestering the next gen of kids so I can definitely get behind the whole generational curse thing. (/s except the bit about my mom. She's a pain.) Comic sans, because why not be FUN when asking a dude you've never met what he wants to name your children together?

On the questionnaire, they refer to limbo as “soul sleep!” WTH? It’s like a 3 year old’s explanation! I have never heard it referred to as that, in 7 plus years of Catholic school in the 1970s. Back then they gave third and fourth graders spelling words like transubstantiation so we were not slouches.

it would be hilarious to see a Jesuit or MDiv or PhDiv tear that list apart, line by stupid line.  Every line is just full of crazy.

One of the nice Chabad ladies might have fun with that mess too...... Why doesn't she spend the time and money crocheting hats for her cats?

Hannah is being really positive. It's weird to see fundies be grateful instead of crying persecution/Satan. Unsettling.

Stop harassing women and being holier than thou and maybe we could be friends, Hannah. I like to practice gratitude and positive thinking too.

I wish she would make a post that she’s thankful for birth control. Since it helps reduce the abortion rate and we know how she feels about abortion. But she won’t. Because she probably believes birth control causes miscarriages.

So SmugHannah got some comeuppance. But she deserves so much more. But then ends her enormous self congratulatory pat on the back with a nice little NIP shaming. They are BOOBS Hannah. Get over it.

"sometimes people's advice isn't the best advice for you" can ya maybe think about that one a leeeettle bit harder, Hannah O Font of Endless Condemnation?

I hope her next baby 1. utterly refuses to breastfeed under a blanket (YES HANNAH some babies just won't/can't and they need to eat anyway you anti-bottle twat) and 2. she comes down with lactation induced vaginismus. Let's see how long she's willing to go without sex because bottle feeding is just for lazy moms.

Ridiculous indeed, but I have an OT opinion on this

Growing up with an immuno-comprised Mom, working with kids, and eventually working in homecare with people that included being terminally ill and older folks, I have seen that not everyone can keep their house at 68 degrees, which is the the reccommended temp to save money and energy. As a single (somewhat) healthy woman I do keep my apartment at about 70, but I actually have to use a large space heater to heat my place most of the time, and I understand many people keep their places cold and just wear sweatshirts. However, I will say that every guy I have dated who has been a stickler for a low temp house had been a HUGE douchebag. I would never bat an eye at it at first, but there seems to be a control freak element to it. So, as weird as this gal’s question is, it might be something I ask a dude. Mainly, why do they do it, and if they are understanding that with kids or people with health problems in the house needing a warmer temp.

(I certainly would never have verbalized any condemnation to them!)

Uh-huh.  Maybe - maybe - she wouldn't have outright said it to their faces, but I'd bet money that bottle-feeding moms were left in no doubt what this childfree adolescent thought of them.

that sometimes people's best advice isn't the best advice for you

So has she learned that her best advice might not be the best advice for everyone else, or just that other people's best advice might not be the best advice for her?  Because those are not the same thing, and I'll believe she's learned the former when she shows hard evidence of it.

I also came out of it with a desire to encourage any mother who's having difficulties with breastfeeding to do everything she possibly can to make it work.

So far, not seeing evidence of accepting that her advice might not be best for everyone.

I might be confusing her with someone else, but didn't she work as a "midwife", or doula or at least go help women after delivery? If she's spent any time at all with any post partum woman why would she think nursing was easy?

She’s the one that had zero ultrasounds before birth and her only prenatal care was with a midwife doing very basic things like a Doppler to check the heart beat. I believe she has attended some homebirths of fake Jewish friends that also had very little prenatal care. Like the friends who had surprise twins at home and had to be rushed to the hospital. But I don’t believe she’s had any real training or education in childbirth.

I didn't even realize that shields were something people could be ardently against. The hard-core lactivists are so obnoxious and there are so many cases where the shame they attach to not breastfeeding right is really hurting women and babies. And even though Hannah has experienced some of this for herself I don't get the impression that she has learned to be supportive of women who aren't able to (or simply don't want to, for that matter) breastfeed at all.

Unfortunately, it's not just a weird fundie thing - the otherwise excellent community midwifery team when my daughter was born pretty much thought they were the Worst Thing Ever (along with bottles and anything else that might stop the baby from learning to Breastfeed Properly...) ? I don't think I'd have managed to breastfeed without using shields to begin with, so their militancy could ironically have prevented me from doing what they wanted in the first place!

And on the subject of breastfeeding modestly and discretely in public, I wonder what she'd make of stuff like this, including Victorian ladies feeding their babies in church without a blanket/cover/modesty tent: https://www.buzzfeed.com/southerndisposition/25-historical-images-that-normalize-breastfeeding-jlw6?sub=2969934_2378602

I imagine Hannah has spent a lot of her years judging anyone who does things differently than herself. My guess is that she’s incredibly insecure and it makes her feel better about herself by looking down on people she thinks are wrong or less than. How miserable she must be.
