Jana don't settle for a man like Derick.

To be fair, of you look at all the males pre marriage derek looked like a winner. Compared to:

-teenage(I think) Ben working for JB

-stiff and cold what-about-Joy? Austin

-let's-live-in- my-parents-back-yard joe

-broken heart pieces siah (that's a big deal in thier culture)

-pedifile josh

-picture perfect pressure Jeremy (seriously I think I'd feel a lot of pressure to always be "on" if I were jinger

derek was a quirky accountant who enjoyed traveling and was college educated.

I think In different situations all (except josh) could've been run of the mill Christian guys. But I think it's the cult culture that breaks any chance if normal in them.

Honestly the culture sucks worse for women but its no picnic for the men either. Trusting God to care for however many babies your teenage wife is going to birth is stressful I'm sure.

@Daisy0322 Josh is a child molester not a pedophile. He's bad enough as is, there doesn't need to be exaggerations.

I do think if anyone of your list would have turned out differently or more "normal" in other circumstances it would have been Josh! He may still have cheated on his wife but probably not molested little girls if brought up properly! I have the impression he likes regular adult women but given the very repressed and at the same time oversexualized surroundings he was brought up in, no wonder he did not know right from wrong between 14 and 15/16/17 (Was it until 17?), and with sexual urges growing, well... I entirely blame JB and Michelle for the situation.

PS.: Can you imagine growing up (as a child) with JB in the house? He comes across as very sexual and was probably constantly behind Michelle...:output_eeMbjt:  🤮

Pretty sure that the whole chad thing is a bunch of bullshit people. There is not a shred of evidence for this. I watched Erin’s wedding for the heck of it again and I didn’t see her looking depressed or crushed (lol). It looks like people *assumed* that he was the type she would go for, and they also added the fact that she’s looking for someone hardworking and physical - which I’m pretty sure Chad is not the only human male with those characteristics. It was therefore easy to get a rumor started based off those assumptions.

From what we’re able to see, Jana seems to be content where she is. She enjoys gardening, hanging out with friends, spending time with family, working on home projects for the family business, etc. I highly doubt JB+M are preventing her from getting married or that she’s been holding off for the younger siblings, and now that they’re old enough she’ll get serious about marriage. It’s also laughable that people hold the notion that she doesn’t want to get married or want kids. She has excplicitly said otherwise. It could be that maybe, just maybe she’s still single at 28 for the same reason plenty of other fundy (or non-fundy) women are single: she has simply never found that person yet.

Jinger was the first favorite( in case you could not tell ;)) She was a Secret rebel who was going to run away the moment she turned 18 and possible take her Little sisters with her and go to college and write a damning  tell all book that would explode the Duggar Image and then and then Etc.  That  dream eventually petered out.  Then Jessa was just waiting to do the same and would marry a guy who would take her away. Yep, that was the “plan” For sure.  And Joyanna was a huge  Tomboy  who would run away and... play soccer?

Ain’t nobody ever routed for Jill.

And so it will be the same story for Jana. As someone mentioned, she’s a blank canvas that people will throw whatever they want on it. That’s why so many people love her. To them she’s this sweet quiet princess that’s always in the background serving, working diligently, waiting for prince charming to arrive. She could never possibly be against gays or abortions, right? She’s going to be the one that “runs free”, right? Yeah, okay people...

I believe he was 14-15 when he molested the five girls. I also place more of the blame on Jim Bob and Michelle, Josh failing to stop after being warned means he knew it was wrong but Michelle and Jim Bob are the adults and failed to seek help for him after the first incedent means that Josh was allowed to carry on molesting girls, they failed Josh and all his victims by not getting him treatment.

I'm guessing that if and when Jana finds the right person, it will be someone unknown to their circles. I doubt it will be a person that attends Big Sandy or any other affiliated venues. She will likely meet this person at the local feed store or coffee shop. If she does  marry, I hope it will be a person who is her equal and not someone that she will have to "train up" or follow around aimlessly.

If he were a pedophile he would still be attracted to children now. He cheated on Anna with full grown women. Therefore, not a pedophile. More like a crime of opportunity in the case of the child molestation.

Yes! This is my realistic-dream for Jana (full-on FreeJana ain't likely to happen, but something like this would give her a bit of separation from the TTH-dependency). fingers crossed for some nice small-town who frequents hardware stores/dog parks/garden centers/etc....

I don’t think there’s any evidence that Josh cheated on Anna with anyone. I’m sure he would have if he had the opportunity, but I’m not certain that he did. I know he expressed remorse for being unfaithful, but that could have just been for the porn or the desire to cheat.

YES! Oh my goodness. Yes. This has been my opinion all along. It might be unpopular on this chat because it isn't speculation, or theories. But sometimes that's just how life goes.

I can certainly draw parallels from my own life experience. I met Mr. Music when I was 26. I was not raised in the fundie world, so yes I was allowed to date. Still, he was my first romantic relationship, and the first person I was physically intimate with. Before meeting him, I remember the comments about me never having had a boyfriend at my age. I remember my uncle's comments about it being weird. So even in my ''very liberal'' circle, there was questions as to why I had not met someone. And I had no other answers to give other than ''I have not met the right person yet''. Plain and simple. I wasn't holding myself off for any particular reason either. Before meeting Mr. Music, I had dated one guy for 2 or 3 months and it was a nope from me. I also had a crush on a guy in college at one point. I tried to make it known to him and he didn't seem interested so it never went beyond that. There was a few guys flirting me here and there but I wasn't attracted to them. After that, it was kind of dry for a while, and then I met the right one. That's just life. Of course Jana can't date like I did. I'm just trying to illustrate my point. Sometimes, it just happens that way. Maybe Jana doesn't want to find someone for the sake of finding someone. I know that was my reasoning and I'm not even fundie. Like people said previously on this thread, I clearly see nothing wrong with being picky (reasonably picky of course!) when it comes to romantic relationship.

And you know what? I remember being single and not always being happy about it. I wanted to meet someone at one point. And yes some moments I felt lonely. I bet these are all emotions Jana has gone through. But I was still living my life, going to work, going out with friends, doing my hobbies, seeing my family, etc. Just like I bet Jana can continue enjoying life even if she wishes to eventually meet the right person.

We dont know what Josh is attracted to. You can do sexual stuff with people you are not attracted to and vice versa.

She’s referring to Sarah Maxwell. A SAHD of 36, also proud owner of a dog. Likelihood of a husband is getting dim. The fundie world beyond Duggarville is bizarre.

I don't know, I think the dog might have been picked out by Jana and a beau.  They have ramped up the Jana marketing machine of late.  Laura looks like she's going to be around a while, since she now appears on the show, so Michelle can continue to avoid teaching her own kids.  There's still at least one more season of this shitshow before a potential Jana courtship season since they haven't shown SiRen's honeymoon yet, Jabbie's wedding is in 3 weeks, and they're overdue for a pregnancy announcement.  They might announce it as a lead in to the next season to throw the leghumpers into a tizzy.

Lord knows it’s hard enough to find a man in the secular world, but add in that your social circle is limited, you can’t use dating apps, and he needs to be the “right sorta” Christian... it’s a miracle there are as many marriages as there are.

I don't totally agree with this. They're basically married off to the first crush they have, so there's that.

I think it's more like they're married off to the first crush they have when they're of marriageable age and that crush reciprocates and the families approve. Sometimes I think about how my high school boyfriend and I definitely would've gotten married if we were fundie. We liked each other, I thought he was good looking, we agreed on most things, our families came from similar socio-economic backgrounds. We got together when we were 16/17 and in fundie world probably would've been married around 18/19 and I'd have 8-10 kids by now. In reality, I haven't even seen or heard of him in ~10 years. I think a lot of fundies end up married to people they might have dated for a few months and then split with in the secular world, because they think that having a crush means that God is telling them to marry this person. It's wild.

Boy oh boy, do I ever have a story for you.
There's this kinda odd character who has been involved with both of the tiny Jewish religious organizations in my community for about three or four years.  He reads as knowlegable, devout, and quite possibly ASD or neurodiverse in some other way.
When I started attending services at both organizations almost weekly after my husband died in Feb, I started crossing paths with X quite a lot more often than in the past.  Which didn't seem like a big deal.  And then my oldest started refusing to attend services.  Said going there was "scary."  Found other safe things for him to do and carried on, under the principle that kids notice what their parents are passionate about and dedicated to but that forcing kids eventually backfires in every possible way.  Then my girls started refusing to attend as well.  Made arrangements for all kids, and carried on.  Then we had an incident at our public library involving a grown man who approached an 8 year old child and asked if he could tickle the child (he was not the child's parent).  Tickler was arrested.  As any parent would, I sat down and had a "let's remember how we deal with uncomfortable situations" conversation with each of my kids.
And they all started talking about X, independently of each other.  That he watches them in weird ways.  That he's "scary" to talk to (I have heard many of the interactions the kids mentioned - what they call scary is "he talks to us like he thinks he's part of our family").  My son said "I'm not sure that X knows that when I talk about zombies, it's just a game I'm playing.  I think he thinks he really does see zombies."
Concerned parent of three vulnerable children did what any sensible parent would do under these circumstances:  I brought my concerns to the board of directors (the org doesn't have a rabbi).  In the past week, I've been so completely brushed off by the board that all the value I personally get out of the organizations Shabbat services is not worth trying to mend fences.  Yesterday was my last service there.  Next week, I start commuting to Next City North, to a well established chabad synagogue.  Which I don't want to do.  Chabad is pretty much the opposite of the egaletarian congregation I'm participating in now.  But Chabad is also the best of the limited choices within reasonable driving range.
I know that at some point in the next month, the board is going to miraculously find the will to deal with their X problem - because they want me.  They want my kids in their service, they want my voice, they want my knowledge, and my willingness to help lead services.  But I don't think they'll be able to do enough.  They don't want to protect my kids and that's a problem.

We’re making progress on the pupper adoption front. After much persuasion (including the financial kind) the rescue has agreed to do our home visit on Thursday and if we pass that, hold her until we’re back from our trip. The key is that between now and Thursday someone doesn’t put in for her, pass their reference check, and have a successful home visit. I know things will work out the way they should, but damn if we aren’t attached to this little girl already.

      Need DIY help.
Can someone help me get into my shed without calling the management firm or a locksmith, please?
Have a shed with a lock on doorknob and deadbolt.  Same key fits both locks.  Turns just fine in doorknob and can feel it lock/unlock so non-issue.
Deadbolt:  first key just went in and didn’t turn.  After some WD-40 and lifting the door a little key now turns but not all the way.  Once we get in will be fine as just won’t use deadbolt - but have no idea how to make it turn.  Are there tricks I don’t know about?
off to google, just thought someone might have some tips.
